  1. I had problems with the 3g at work today, though my iphone worked fine. Has anyone else had this issue?
  2. The only headphones that interest me after being lucky enough to either hear or own pretty much everything are: Dynamic: Sony R10s (I sold mine in favor of my current rig) and Qualias (I would recommend neither for your purpose) and maybe the CD3000 (these might serve you well), Grado HP1 or 2. Electrostatic: Stax Omegas and O2MK1, but with a beefy aftermarket amp. Ortho: the new Audeze LCD2. These were pretty freaking impressive with the few rigs I heard them in , though my time with them is limited. Scary good graphs to back them up. I'd take one of these for accuracy as well as just damn good listening over the GS1000 or PS1000 any day. Balanced armature: JH Audio 3A/16. IEMs, yes, but holy shit. These are stunningly good, and you can tweak the sound you want through DSP. Astonishing imaging with pinpoint accuracy. I'm a tone freak, and loved what I heard, and I'm no pushover. As far as the GS1000 and PS1000 go, I'm the wrong person to ask. I have a very small head, and could never get a proper fit (had to hold them up to my ears), so can't comment accurately on what the heck they sound like, though I found the PS1000 too bass heavy, even with a poor fit, and the GS1000 were new, so I'll leave that be.
  3. I've not experienced any headphone changing significantly after the first 100 hours, not to say that some don't, but I've not heard it, and my critical listening skills are fairly adept when I bother, though I don't make my living listening. I'm still trying to understand if there is actually a question here. Do you want PS1000s? Is break-in time your main concern? Point of curiosity? Are you willing to consider other choices? EDIT: sorry, I missed your last post where there was a question.
  4. You're using your headphones for as a specific tool. You seem to like them for that. Good deal. If I understand you correctly, you're look to add to/replace your GS1000 with PS1000. I'm doubtful that any of us has listened to both for 400 hours in order to answer your question re comparative break-in time. With the exception of postjack, I'm not sure we have too many members that are fans of the the GS1000, and I'm not sure we have any that still own the PS1000. If you were looking for different headphones that might be revealing of the pops and clicks and anything else that might interest you in your mastering adventures, we might be able to give you some ideas, but that's about it.
  5. Nobody cares here how many pop albums you've worked on or sold or blah blah blah. We all know people who have done same, or at least many of us have, and I certainly have. What I'm interested in is why a sound engineer would choose either of those headphones. That makes absolutely no sense to me. Now the HP1s or 2s, that's a different story, but the GS1000 or PS1000, I just don't get it.
  6. Larry Young - Unity Thank you, gentlemen for this one.
  7. Well, since you called a moderator an asshole on your second post here, I'm going to offer the suggestion to read your welcome pm.
  8. For a little change of pace for me: Various Artists - Super Analog Sound of Three Blind Mice
  9. How do you like it? Me: Seems to fit my Monday.
  10. Went to the gym and did a very lax cardio workout, had a cookout with my neighbors (was too hot), and have been playing with my ipad and listening to music the rest of the day. Getting ready to call my dad now. Nice Sunday.
  11. Ooops. That's like 80% of my music. I have a slow brain. It needs all the help it can get.
  12. Carla Bley - The Lost Chords Find Paolo Fresu
  13. Happy Fathers Day! Hope you guys all get a nice, relaxing day and your families treat you right
  14. Jin, you got me on a music binge now. I went to pick up the new Punch Brothers, and ended up getting the new Crooked Still the new Carolina Chocolate Drops : two duet cd's of Chris Thile of Old Crow Medicine Show, one with Mike Marshall and one with Edgar Meyer: and his 2004 solo cd this one by The Steeldrivers (very bluesy bluegrass) and also bumped into this one last night in my own collection that I highly recommend (wonderful version of "Angel Band"). The Wood brothers are Chris Wood of Medeski, Martin, & Wood and his brother Oliver, so ended up getting their other cd and almost bought the new Infamous Stringdusters: but added to my growing Deer Tick collection instead: and topped it off with maybe the most fun cd I've bumped into in a long time, The Fabulous Ginn Sisters - You Can't Take a Bad Girl Home. I think I'm done for a bit.
  15. The Wood Brothers - Ways Not to Lose
  16. Happy birthday to Lily! Congrats to Shelly for getting that stuff done. I had a Wind Mitigation Inspection of my house today. Keeping my fingers crossed that it will lower my windstorm insurance significantly. The inspector said that 15-20% isn't uncommon. After the inspection fee, I'm really hoping for 20%. \ I then went to the Apple Store and exchanged my dead ipad for a new one, and was quite surprised that they A) Had one and gave it to me. When I called yesterday, they said that wasn't going to happen. I've been playing with it ever since. What a great little toy, though I can't quite deal with the keyboard yet.
  17. They gave me a new one (I asked and they said it wasn't refurbished)!
  18. This cd is completely amusing me right now: Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros - Up From Below
  19. Yes, to Jim's recs. Yup. Rather nice. I'd love to see Tift Merrit live. She's another singer/songwriter I really like, but can't stand her cd's. It's like her producers, or maybe it's her, just can't leave well enough alone. So, damn. Last night, I went on a music binge, digging around cd's, many of which I'd forgotten about, and typed up a fairly comprehensive recommendation response here, but apparently fell asleep before pressing "submit," and now it's vanished. Anyway, the abbreviated version of stuff I haven't yet mentioned: If you want to dip into modern bluegrass/folk/roots/country, good launching pads are the Rounder Records or Sugar Hill catalogs. There are others, but they'll get you started. For necessary reference points, as well as some amazing music, the Smithsonian Folkways stuff is great. A must is their Anthology of American Folk Music, edited by Harry Smith. Also check into Alan Lomax, Jr.'s stuff. Again, those are just starting points, and there is a lot more out there, but they're good starting points, and if I ever meet you in person, I also have some really fun stories to tell about both those nuts. Anyway, back to more modern slants, but have a more traditional feel to me: Chatham County Line – Route 23 Little Country Giants – Sing Pretty for the People (you want this one) Diana Jones – My Remembrance of You Samamidon – This Chicken Proved Falsehearted Justin Townes Earle – The Good Life Also, check out the Avett Brothers. I don't own any of their cd's because I'll love one song and hate the next two, but they're worth investigating. The singer/songwriter stuff with seemingly (at least to me) more crossover stuff going on. I like all these in small doses: Gregory Alan Isakov – Rust Colored Stones A.A. Bondy – When the Devil's Loose and American Hearts Joe Pug – Nation of Heat J. Tillman – Vacilando Territory Blues Chris Bathgate – A Cork Tale Wake Moving into more modern folk genre blending band stuff (I guess you'd call it "indie"): Deer Tick – War Elephant, The Black Dirt Sessions (probably everything else, but I just don't have it) The Everybodyfields – Plague of Dreams Blind Pilot – 3 Rounds and a Sound (these guys go on tour on their bicycles) Breathe Owl Breathe – Climb In (I love this one) For some reason I want to throw Califone in here, but they really mix up genres, depending on the cd, and are pretty experimental, but almost always good. Stuff you might want to check out, but I don't own for various reasons: The Castanets The Cave Singers Frontier Ruckus Brown Bird That's it for now. I'll admit that I have no idea if the cds I own are even the better choices for each of these artists, but I'm now in the mood to check more out. Also, come to think of it, some of these stretch a bit far from where you wanted to be per your first post. Sorry about that.
  20. Happy birthday, David. Hope you have a great day.
  21. this is also nice: Deer Tick - War Elephant and I just bought: Deer Tick - The Black Dirt Sessions
