  1. I have no idea what's going on, but I can't seem to get out of this everything, including all that's truly horrible, is so freaking beautiful and perfect it's almost unbearable mode I woke up in yesterday. It's going to ruin my reputation.
  2. I'll check out Salif and Vieux (I have or had...tend to lose cds...I have no idea how.....a lot of his dad's). Far out or center? Both, please. Thanks, Al. I forgot about those threads. Dipped in to them when they first started, but I wasn't in acquisition mode at the time, I guess, and forgot.
  3. I have Gilad Atzmon's Musik and Exile, but you just reminded me to listen to it. I've never even heard of Steve Jansen...so... I almost want to open up my facebook account just to join that group!
  4. I guess like most of us, I go through periods of enjoying what I have, periods of really investigating one or two artists or genres, periods of not even listening much at all, and periods where I'm in exploratory mode. I'm moving into that last mode now, and am looking for things I probably wouldn't find on my own. I thought it might be fun (at least for me) if my friends would recommend one or two choices that you think I should have. I'm pretty open to most anything, want to broaden my tastes, definitely could use some classical suggestions, but have an extremely low tolerance for bouncy-happy-pop or what I like to call wimp rock (e.g., coldplay and all those horrible variations) and wispy-voiced singers, or anything with stupid lyrics unless the music is freaking amazing. I'm thinking along the lines of if you were sending me off on a desert island, what would you want me to have.
  5. So I've been following this thread since the beginning, but I'll be damned if I can remember what choices folks made re cases. I picked up a cheapo Belkin because that's all that Best Buy had (didn't feel like dealing with the mall to check out the Apple Store), but it's really ugly. I have an apple case on order, but I didn't particularly like Jeff's, and mine won't be delivered until some time mid July. I don't have the need right now for a stand-up one, but am not against it. Any one find one they really like?
  6. Jin, what do you think of that cd? It's weird that I don't really like it in a lot of ways, but I'm drawn to it nonetheless. Jim White - No Such Place
  7. Ben Nichols - The Last Pale Light in the West Anyone that likes Steve Earle should check this out. It has that vibe, though it's completely its own thing and quite good. Ben Nichols is Lucero's front guy, and though I'm not really a fan of that band, I like this a lot, and as I think I said in an earlier post, it's based on Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy, kinda a character study, and it works as such.
  8. Horse Feathers - House With No Home. One of my new top CDs. It makes me smile whenever it's on, so I've been playing it a lot since I got it. I like it better than Words Are Dead, though that's quite good also.
  9. Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros - Up from Below. I have no idea why I keep listening to this over and over. It's has a very musical theater vibe, sort of Hair-ish or a bit of The Tubes. It's pretty much silliness done right. Very addictive. Has anyone else heard it?
  10. Ray Lamontagne -Till the Sun Turns Black I haven't listened to this in years. At little schmaltzy, but not bad if you're in the mood.
  11. Do we really need to post anything from attention whore here?
  12. Bold move, Doug, and I admire you for it. I know way too many people who locked themselves into degrees, or careers, or situations that make them miserable (and usually anyone close to them) because A) they cling to some idea about they "should" be doing and/or have no curiosity or knowledge about how good life really is C) are cowards. Usually all three, and it's always sad. I'm saluting you and your chosen path with my ice-tea right now. Yeah, it's not the same as Al's Hunahpu, but my heart's in the right place.
  13. Mumford and Sons - Sigh No More
  14. Three new dresses. It's too hot for pants.
  15. Some days you wake up extrodinarily happy and at peace with everything, even the stuff and people you let make you nutty the day before. Life is good. The trick is in remembering to notice.
  16. All is good with mine now. Don't know what happened yesterday (probably user error), but have I mentioned yet how much I really like this thing?
  17. Max Richter - 24 Postcards in Full Color. Composed as ringtones. Quite nice.
  18. Anouar Brahem - The Astounding Eyes of Rita
  19. Taking my own advice and continuing to stalk Voltron: Anouar Brahem - Astrkan Cafe
  20. Nice sleepy time music. Good night, folks .
  21. Jin, if there's one thing I learned well at a young age it's to always choose friends who are smarter than you and who have better taste than you. So far, it's brought me a very interesting and full life. Eulogy for Evolution is fantastic. I'm listening to it now: btw, that Ralph Towner cd I just finished has some very nice baritone guitar, which you don't get to hear much these days.
  22. Ralph Towner and Paolo Fresu - Chiaroscuro
