  1. Sounds like something out of that end-of-days sermon I heard today. And very cute daughter, Amos. I missed the pic earlier.
  2. Strange morning going off to a very small country church where my family was more than half the congregation. The preacher brought the kids up front and told them they should think about giving half of their belongings away, then gave a sermon about preparing for the end of days Twitter style, and knowing what you need to do in 140 characters or less. The singer got confused over an A flat change in a hymn, so he and my aunt, the organist, decided to talk about it and rehearse it a couple times right there in front of the church until he was happy. The whole thing could either be disturbing or amusing, depending on what type of attention you wanted to pay. I'm now in Charlotte waiting to board my flight home. It was a good weekend.
  3. Safe travels, Naaman. Woke up on the sofa with kids climbing on me, Uncle John made Belgian waffles topped with fresh peaches and homemade whipped cream, then played all morning with go carts and golf carts and dogs and kids. Afternoon was all about food: digging potatoes, picking corn, tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers from the garden and cooking with the aunts and cousins. The evening's been all about eating with more pies and cookies arriving with more aunts and uncles and cousins. The weather's gorgeous, and the home is gorgeous (uncle made all the furniture), set in the middle of seven acres of trees and green. I'm having a wonderful time, and am now be summoned to play ladder ball and corn ball with the kids while my brother sets up the telescope. Pics sometimes later.
  4. It took a few hours more than planned to get here, but at least this was waiting for me along with a blackberry pie and cherry pie and an angel food cake with fresh peaches. Good thing I packed my fat clothes.
  5. The pie is strawberry-rhubarb, and I will try to get the recipe since it's one of those family things that has been passed down. And now for the you-can't-make-stuff-up moment: the catering truck is stuck in the side of the plane I just boarded. At least they put me in first class. I think it's going to be a long night.
  6. Yup. Missed my connecting flight, so hanging out in Detroit. Met some interesting people, so not all bad.
  7. Got up at 4, worked, drove 90mph to get to the airport to then sit in the smallest seat I've experienced on a smelly, packed plane filled with shrieking children for over an hour before taking off. Am now finally on my way to my Aunt Judy's rubarb pie while listening to the new Los Lobos cd. Though it will be a miracle if catch my connecting flight thanks to the delay, I'm back to happy for now.
  8. Jeff, I'll bow out if someone wants in. It's not like I know what I'm doing at all.
  9. I don't understand this sentence. What language is it?
  10. oh, I forgot to add in a nano, a classic, whatever the one I got from dan is, and an old ipod photo turned imod now dead.
  11. Exactly what I have. I think that's about enough.
  12. Al, those pictures make me homesick. All my kidhood friends are doing their annual upstate Michigan get together right about now. I wish I were there. Dan, is the allergy thing part of the sleep thing or completely separate? Feel free to tell me to mind my own business. I'm just curious.

    Rubicon

I'm still trying to make it through the second episode of Arrested Development through Netflix. I saw the first last month, and have started the second about four times. I'll get there, but I don't know how you folks find time for all this watching stuff. I'm good for about an hour or two a week.
  14. A perfectly ripe and tasty mango from the backyard. Yum.
  15. Hope you have a great birthday, Pete.

    Rubicon

I caught the first two episodes as well, and liked them. I'll be on an airplane next Sunday, but I may try and follow this show. Isn't AMC one of those channels that puts on shows more than once a week?
  17. Cant remember the last time I got seven hours of sleep at one tim. That sounds really good right about now.
  18. Then from your list, I'd get the Sennheisers, though I admit I'm not familiar with the others. They have good isolation, will do well with the music you like, and can take a beating if you're dragging them around from place to place.
  19. ummmmmm. How do you plan on using them mostly? Travel? Home? Outside? What will you be using as a source? What's your experience with audio gear in general? Experience with music? Prefer a more neutral presentation or are you a basshead, etc.? Do you want to get one headphone and be done, or are you building a rig (headphone, source, amp) or plan on upgrades down the line?
  20. I've no experience with noise cancelling headphones, but if they're going to be for wearing on th street, I'd just get cheap ones, or go for decent iems. Rather than wasting money, I'd just get JH13.
  21. They had both the first and second on tonight.
  22. I haven't watched tv in months, but since I've been procrastinating doing work, I suddenly found the need. I've watched two shows today that I really like and had never heard of: Top Shot on the History Channel, and I've just been watching Rubicon on AMC, which I think is new. Both held my interest, especially Rubicon, a spy-type show, but really well done.
  23. Had a short, pleasant lunch with Carl, his very nice wife Bonnie, and Alex in Ft. Lauderdale, and have been sitting here half-assed doing work ever since while watching Top Shot on the History Channel.
  24. Happy birthday, Todd! Hope you have a wonderful day.
