  1. Scott, hope all turns out well for your brother. Let us know how you're doing.
  2. Wow, Brent. You might qualify for a gov program for insurance for your kids. My old roommate got her son on one when her income was low. it covered pretty much everything, including dental and eye.
  3. Dang, Wayne! I wouldn't even recognize you if you were walking down the street. How do you deal with getting dark roots since you're not actually white-haired?
  4. Wowza, guys. It's hard for me to even picture snow, let alone this early. Stay safe and warm!
  5. Egad. I certainly meant defendant. Don't know how I managed to mangle that one, though operating on too little sleep is definitely starting to show.
  6. ^ ouch, miguel. Re my little drama, I have no problem with HR. I love HR. They're basically taking care of everything, including lawyers. i'm just a plaintiff, along with others, in a wrongful death suit, and am hoping I'll have nothing more to do than give a statement. I wasn't the primary therapist, thank goodness. I suppose I should actually read the papers I was handed today, but it was a thick pack of papers, and I couldn't be bothered other than to be amused at the language on the first page....something about "command you to blah blah blah." Really? You lawyers say things like "command you"? I read it in a cartoon voice for effect, then ate some rather excellent cake that was in the staff kitchen at the time.
  7. As an expert on all things having to do with crutches, I strongly advise against shoes with no back at all, as they will slip a bit as you shuffle around, making walking harder, if not more dangerous. I'd go with a slip on, but with a back or at least a strap. You can use one foot to get a shoe off the other foot, and if you need help putting them on, that's what your husband/friends/co-workers/student minions are for.
  8. Checked into this thread and realized I was over a week behind with hc news. Sorry on the surgery, Shelly, but if you need any advice with managing crutches, I've got all the good tips. Sorry about apt., Jacob; can only hope a better one is waiting. Congrats to Emooze, and hoping Al's hip is better.... and good luck to Greg's patience with the college application process. I also applied to only one and got in, though I do think back in my day, it was a bit easier. One of my friend's kids just graduated from my old college, and her daughter had to interview with three professors as part of the process. I went there on two hits of yellow sunshine (I thought the campus was very pretty in the snow), and remember meeting people that were written down on a schedule for me, and could have been interviewing me, but I obviously didn't understand the purpose of my visit or the college application process in general. Apparently, whatever I did worked, and got a scholarship to boot. Those were the days. I got nothing exciting for news these days. Been uber busy with nothing fun. Got an email from HR this morning, telling me I have to be in the lobby at 9:45 tomorrow morning so I can get served papers regarding a lawsuit over a patient that hung herself a couple years back. Sad, but I barely remember her, let alone any notes I wrote, which are apparently the reason for their interest in me. Bah.
  9. Jealous of all the great new purchases! Nice, guys! I'm just not exciting with my money lately. Today: tank of gas, mascara, small bag of peanut m&m, cat food, catnip.
  10. Thanks, guys! I did, indeed, spend the day pampering myself, and am now headed out to dinner to close out a rather wonderful day. i'm very grateful for good friends, good family, and good health. I'm looking forward to another good year.
  11. I'm am ignoring this thread because I seriously jealous. Have fun, guys!
  12. Want. I just picked up the new iphone, 64g, and loaded it with music. Anyone have an idea for a case that takes the jh13 headphones, or at least one I can easily mod (please remember my skills are about the same as an average 4-year-old's)?
  13. Not amusing when Sanchez is your quarterback and you end up with -4 points
  14. Al, hope it gets worked out for you soon. What's amazing is it's not surprising to me. Everyone I know that has had similar renovations has had similar dramas. Raffy, sorry. I don't think anyone knows how to feel or what to say or do when they first get news like you did. Just let yourself feel whatever shows up and talk with folks who care.
  15. Big congrats, Chris & family!!!! Happy birthday to Benjamin!
  16. Happy anniversary! Aimless, Vizslas are great dogs. My kidhood neighbor always had a couple around. He took them hunting, but the they loved playing with the neighborhood kids, and he let them run around with us. We weren't allowed fences in our neighborhood, so the backyards all opened up into one giant kid-dog playground. We had fun.
