  1. How the heck do you do that? Is this one of those guy things we women hate you for ("I lose 5 lbs a week if I stop putting cream in my coffee and walk 15 minutes twice a week")? I'm hoping to lose 20-25 by end of January, and another ten by end of March.
  2. http://cycle.jog.fm/ Some not bad tunes there. Might be good for trainer days.
  3. Ya gotta break your butt in to the torture devices mile by mile. You'll be fine. The bikes look gorgeous. I'm just jealous you're riding. Chris, you've really thinned out since I saw you last, which was....er.....a long time ago. You look great. I started an official diet (lordy, I hate that idea/word) yesterday. Since I'm not doing anything at all right now re exercise, other than stretching, my middle-age metabolism has decided to give me five more pounds in the last three weeks. I need to go the opposite direction asap, especially to get the weight off my ankle once I can start using it again. I'm very disciplined once I really need to be. At least being focused will help with all the holiday goodies rolling into the office. Hoping to be back on my bike(s), even for short rides, by the end of the month.
  4. Come back to us Gene! Happy birthday! I hope life is treating you great.
  5. I do as well. I haven't been this happy since before the accident.
  6. Seven miles of hills would kick my butt. I gotta learn to do hills as everywhere I want to visit on my bike is hilly.
  7. It is pretty. The good news is that's it's not broken, nor have I done any significant new damage, even though I still can put no weight on it without screaming pain. The cast is to completely immobilize it to "cool it down," and revist in two weeks. I asked the wtf with the pain if I'd not done new damage, and he took out a highlighter on this section of my MRI report: Severe ankle joint osteoarthritis with complete loss of cartilage along the bulk of the tibial plafond as well as essentially complete loss of cartilage along the medial talar dome. There is marked bony hypertrophy along the syndesmosis, worse on the tibila side and there is evidence of prior ORIF of the distal fibula. This is clearly chronic. Large subcortical cysts are forming on both sides of hte markedly degenerated tibiotalar joint. Chronic moderate posterior subtalar joint osteroarthristis. Osteoarthristis of the third tarsometatarsal joint, also likely chronice. Mild pre-Archilles bursitis. This could be an acute finding. I have to look up what most of that means, but I don't really care. Truth is I'm thrilled. It's just my regular old messed up ankle that I love. Apparently falling eight feet onto whatever that report is talking about needs to be avoided, but I'll be fine. It may take two weeks. It may take two months. I'll be back to normal, and that's all tha matters.
  8. Happy birthday, Haj!
  9. Double win on the comfortable plus inexpensive!
  10. Happy birthday to Zoe! Had my MRI finally and have the CD in my possession. Hoping my lame workman's comp rep can now schedule me a follow-up ortho appt. before next year.
  11. Glad you're liking it, Aerius.
  12. Happy birthday to you!
  13. Get two.
  14. While I get and appreciate what everyone is saying here re measurements, the main deal is that I'm probably going have to lower the seat to reach the pedals. My method was to climb on the bike and look at my feet. I'll figure all the rest out later.
  15. Thanks guys. I'm pretty happy. For those of you who don't know, the guy we ran into tonight is my fitter, so it was just really weird timing. Chris, I actually thought of that, but if it's any consolation, you will be the only one with the new Calfee that fits you perfectly. I took some more measurements when I got home, and I am definitely going to have to lower the seat 2-3 cm, which won't be ideal and will be pretty close to being level with the headtube. The reason I suspect she sold the bike is also why it's in mint condition: she's my size, even an inch smaller, and the bike had to be too big to ride.
  16. Okay, just ran into John, the owner of Racer's Edge, at Rock Burger. We pulled in and a couple guys came running over admiring the bikes, and it turns out he was with them. He looked the bike over and said it couldnt have ridden 500 miles. It's in perfect shape. EDIT: just cleaned up my horrid iphone typing.
  17. Bought the Calfee. It's a 2001, but the OCD owner kept it in perfect condition. He didn't even want me putting it on my bike rack, volunteering to put it inside the car for me. I think it's going to be fine. I was concerned about the reach, but if there is going to be an issue, it will be from needing to lower the seat. It didn't have pedals, so I couldn't get a real idea. The green is stunning in the light and I can't wait to see it in the sun. I'm very happy, plus got a new chain and the original booklet that came with it thrown in, and $60 off. We're off to Rock Burger for dinner now.
  18. You're up at 3:45AM?
  19. Plans to ride the crap/snot out of the Kirk are in place. I just need the bike and the ability to ride again. All this new bike lust happens when I'm stuck inside. It was gorgeous out today. So sad. Chris, have you gotten out more on the Calfee yet?
  20. I stayed off my feet today, spent too much time online, managed to get a load of laundry done, and can't believe my four-day weekend is over. Oh well.
  21. Fire pics are pretty fun
  22. But if you notice, I only have one bike. Team Minimal and all that. Actually, you can't even get on a waitlist anymore from my understanding. That was my thinking when I saw it, but I don't plan on getting a bike just to have it. I plan on riding the crap out of it. I don't want 650 wheels, and also I'm less afraid of beating up my Gunnar than I am a Vanilla. The plan was always to have two road bikes: one speedy, one touring/all-around. That Vanilla would be more of the all-around, but the Gunnar fills that need. I wasn't planning on the Calfee, or a carbon bike at all, but for $1100, if it fits, I'll throw my Enves on it, and ride it around once I can start riding again (hopefully in a month) and see how I like it. I won't be getting the Kirk until mid/late Spring, and I can make whatever new decisions I need to at that time.
  23. Good plan.
  24. Yah, well, I'm over my insanity flash. I'm not going to go for it as I really don't want 650s. It was just a fleeting "wow, a very cool, impossible-to-get-bike that's actually in my size, and I can have it" moment. I'm over it. EDIT: I really need to get off these crutches and out of the house asap. I notice how I'm perfectly happy with the bike I have when I'm actually on it.
