Since I'm probably not riding for another month I'm going to be starting out again where I was last year at this time: old, slow, capable of very few miles.....but, I would love to loosely plan a hc road meet to get me motivated. F that mountain bike stuff!

In if it's not too late.

^ This. I'm curious how you liked the Brain as well. I completed my x-mas shopping, including walking (not on crutches) a bit in Barnes and Noble. I may have overdone it, but I'm clearly on the mend and excited about it.

Nice pic, Chris. See, Mike, Chris knows how to take pictures.

I posted the question in his thread on paceline.

I just saw....or rather didn't see Kirk Frameworks on the exhibitors list. That would be a major bummer for me.

I want to note that we have three serious slackers: john, mike, raffy. They're up in Sebring for three days of cycling and not single picture posted yet. I just booked a hotel room for three days in Denver for NAHBS. Jeff is going. Who else wants to join?

hmmmm....three posts in a row..... Today was the 1st anniversary of my dad's passing, but turned out a good day, lots of great memories of him while I minding my business going about town. Laughed with my mom, and brothers. Those of you drinkers out there, raise a toast to him tonight. He was a wonderful man and dad, and though I miss him, he would appreciate a celebration of any sort. On the excellent news front, I can now put some weight on my ankle and have taken more than a few steps around my home. I may even vacuum tomorrow. After six weeks of cat hair wafting across the tile....... And on another excellent news front, I got my highest score ever in a vicious match of online boggle.

Same problem here now fixed. Actually, I just wanted to post that pic again because it's awesome.

Well, I bought the 11" air: 1.7GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor, Turbo Boost up to 2.6GHz,4GB memory, 128GB flash storage,Intel HD Graphics 4000. I also got the microsoft office suite, a year of one-on-one help/lessons, apple care, and a neoprene sleeve. The screen will be fine for my mom as she's used to a small laptop already (13" I think). She wanted something lightweight for travel, and was talking about netbooks, but I know that's not what she wants. I may get her an ipad later, but she wants a computer. I also bought the microsoft office suite and had them put it on, so it will be there when she gets it. The one-on-one personal help sessions will be great because she can use them in Dallas (Apple Store right near my brother), Florida (one near me), or at home, even if the store there is an hour away. I'm excited for her to get this. Talking with my brothers, we all agreed, if she knew any one of us bought it for her alone, she'd majorly stress out about the expense, ruining the otherwise perfect gift. We're all, including the grandkids, going to put our names on it, and I know that the real fun for her will be her telling all her friends,"Look what my kids got me." She's one of those old-school mommas who gives everything to everyone else, doesn't want anything for herself, and rarely gets to be the recipient of something this cool. I wish I could be there when she opens it. Now if I can only stop her from buying one herself in the next couple weeks.......
-
She's only had pcs, but she keeps asking me about macs, since she's had continual virus problems, even with software, and has to take it in every few months to get cleaned up. She also has friends who like them, though don't live close enough to sit down with her, which is my concern.

I'm going to get her an air today, and do my best to set it up for her. Hopefully, she'll come here in a few weeks and I can get her set up better and teach her what little I know.

There is a apple store about 45 minutes from her house. Maybe she can set up a couple classes or genius appointments.

The problem isn't my office. All policies like this are run through the mothership in PA. We used to be a family-owned biz, but now we're a part of a group. We still have more autonomy than most in many situations, but over the years, the corporate necessities of running (we're now the largest, I think, in the nation)has dictated certain practices. I have personally benefitted greatly from the acquisition (significantly better benefits, money for raises over the years in tough economy, etc., killer office, and I've known the rules for years. I'll just take it, and plan better vacations next year. The only thing I've ever wondered about is what if I wanted to take a "trip of a lifetime" type vacation in Dec. or Jan., etc. Although I can keep 40 hours on the books, what if I wanted two weeks and didn't have it? I suppose that could get worked out if I ever needed it.

I don't think I posted it there. I went on for pages about it in the bike thread. Maybe you should spend more time there, Mr. Calfee owner. Did you see Chris got a gorgeous Dragonfly? Mine is a mint condition 2001 Tetra Pro in emerald green with 9-speed DA. I got it off Craig's list for $1040. The OCD owner is still emailing me with recommendations of how to take care of it, crank sizes, etc. It's a 52, which may or may not be slightly too large, but it was close enough to risk for that price. Once I get my cast off, I'm taking it in to my fitter.
-
Dunno. We don't get raises automatically, and I like to use my vacation, so...I guess I'll find out.
-
Happy birthday, Todd. Sounds like a nice birthday dinner.

Okay, this is how stupid I am: From what I understand, there is no cd/dvd thingy in those. How do get stuff (office suite, etc.) in there? And yes, my mother is more inept than I.
-
^ Yeah, there's a lot of yelling where I work. Both a perk and a pain. The raise, however, is very nice. Re bike gear, I'm done until my name comes up in the queue for the Kirk, except to put pedals and a new seat on the Calfee. I'm almost inclined to buy something because I screwed up with my vacation time this year. At your anniversary date, we have a policy that you have to have used your vacation and sick time or sell back the hours (nice option). I desperately need a vacation, but cancelled the one I had planned when I injured my leg, because I needed the vacation to get things done. I thought I had more time as I was confused on my actual anniversary date (I've had a few hire dates due to quitting, getting fired, etc.,long stories). Apparently, my anniversary was this week, not next month as I thought, and I have to sell about 200 hours of sick/vacation. I'm fried with no break coming soon. I should be able to console myself with a new toy or two, right?

Mother's old dell laptop died. I want to buy her a macbook air 11" for travel. Guys who know me, please picture someone less computer savvy than I, easily frustrated with technologies, and with no one around her that can really help. Is this a stupid choice?
-
Sooooooo jealous. Have a great time, guys!
-
Congrats, CJ! Today, I got yelled at by one boss and got a significant raise from another. Weird day. I'm fried.
-
Happy birthday, Tom!

Well, I've been in for 16 years so I'll support you pausing the drinking thing. You'll definitely be able to buy more cool bike things.
