  1. ^ This. Really nice, Jeff.
  2. Miguel, my first ride, about a year ago, lasted only three miles at about 10 mph, and I had to stop as my vision started blurring. Right now, I'm only able to ride in the easiest gear, going very slowly, for about 30-40 minutes. Prior to my dunk tank incident, I was able to do 80+ miles in one ride and a fairly decent speed. It took me only two months off the bike to lose most of my conditioning. You've been off for years. You're doing great!
  3. c12mech (wth is your real name?) and miguel, I'm enjoying reading your posts, and getting excited for both of you. Even small "hills" kill me and one of my goals for this year, if I can actually start riding again, is to learn how to ride hills. I got back on the Computrainer on Monday, and was able to do more. I have another session scheduled for Friday, and if that goes well, I definitely want to ride outside this weekend. Nice c-dale, pigmode. I, too, want to see that DeSalvo built up, Jeff. Very nice.
  4. Thanks. I've definitely screwed up on that front more than once. I did ride the Computrainer yesterday, just light spinning, but stopped at about 35 minutes. Today, I rode my old Raleigh three-speed around the neighborhood for about a half hour as well. It was gorgeous out! I'm going to try and get out on my Gunnar for a little bit tomorrow morning. I put the Fulcrum wheels and the B17 back on, and also switched out the handlebars from 40s to 38s I want to try things out.
  5. I was actually doing okay until I made the excellent bad decision to walk/stand on it for about eight hours a couple Saturdays ago. It was still worth it, but I learned I gotta wear my frankenstein boot if I plan on doing anything like that again. I ended up not going this morning as I stupidly didn't wear my boot all day yesterday, but although I'm a slow learner, I'm getting the deal: It's the damn walking crap that's messing up my plans! Maybe I should hire someone to do that for me.
  6. Big congrats, Jacob and Emily!
  7. This!!!!!! My mom's ortho doc's name is Dr. Bone.
  8. ^ You're doing better than I am. Truth. I set up a Computrainer session tomorrow morning. My ankle isn't doing that well again, and this way I can just spin lightly and stop when I need to without having to figure out how to get back home. I figure it's a good way to start out without overdoing it like I had done a month ago.
  9. Very cool, Shelly!
  10. Shelly, ouch. Hope you can get it figured out, but as Al said, don't sweat it. I went to Whole Foods with my mother this evening. Lordy. I will not be doing that again.
  11. Miguel, very cool. We will have to go riding some time. I'm pretty much back to day one myself. I've had to wear my frankenstein boot all week due to standing on my bad leg last Saturday (well worth it), but haven't been on my bike in almost two weeks. I'm hoping to get out on Wednesday for a short ride with some of the women I had been training with, though they'll probably drop me within five miles. I'll take it. Nice @ MIke and Chris. This weather was absolutely stunning for riding here this weekend. I hope it holds out all week.
  12. Wonderful! Congrats!
  13. Whoa. I missed the surgery post, Al! That will be annoying in the short term, but hopefully will set you up right. A co-worker just had very successful carpal tunnel surgery, and was just wishing she would have done it earlier.
  14. Hope you had a great birthday!
  15. Learned I'd actually paid off the house in October, but somehow missed it. Seems anti-climatic when the big moment is fused with "how stupid can I be?" realities.
  16. Jealous. Still jealous.
  17. The Wings just sucked.
  18. Happy birthday, Mike!!!
  19. Yay, Miguel! Congrats on the big weight loss and getting back into riding, even if you have a small delay. Nice @ Brent.
  20. ^ Nice. So that last hill shouldn't seem so tough in a few weeks Due to standing for eight hours yesterday, my ankle is puffed up like a loaf of bread, so I'm back in the boot for a bit, and no riding today, though it was a perfect day for it. Sunny, no wind to speak of......hopefully, next weekend.
  21. Thanks, Mike. Since I took your place and your ticket, triple thanks!
  22. Matt Schofield. Sorry, was very tired when typing last night.
  23. Just got back from the Sunshine Blues Festival with John. Not so sunshiny, as we stood in the rain for at least a couple of the eight hours we were there, but worth it. One of my fav bands, the Woods Brothers, were there, and wonderful. A pretty amazing guitarist, Matt Scofield, and his trio from the UK were a highlight. The Tedeschi Trucks Band kicked azz as the closer. We managed to get next to the stage for all the acts, and although I won't be walking tomorrow, I'd do it again. Really nice time.
  24. So, after another almost two weeks of no riding, I got in 10 miles this morning. I felt good, but decided to stop this time while I was still feeling good so as not to set myself back again. However not happy it makes me, I think I'm really going to have to take it much more slowly that I thought at first. On the good front, I've lost 28 pounds, and set up some computrainer time this week to focus solely on pedal stroke/form. As long as I'm going to be rehabing slowly, I might as well use this time to focus on basics. I'm still doing weight training three days a week so as not to lose muscle. I still need to lose another 15-20, but I'm stopping my rather hardcore "emergency surgery" diet, and am looking more at losing one pound a week moving forward.
