  1. Congrats, Justin! As Al said, don't break your neck or anything else. I can promise you it's not fun.
  2. Spent two hours at the DMV getting the title for the Vibe transferred over. Stupid DMV. I really wanted to get the Share the Rode plate. I have a permanent handicap plate on my other car. I was going to use the hanging tag in this one and have the cool cycling license plate, but the hanging things actually expire, and I'd have to go to the doc every couple years and get forms filled out again. I asked why I'd need new forms if it was already noted in their system that I had permanent status, which is why I could get another plate, and the woman just told me those are the rules. So, I have an ugly handicap Florida plate, but at least I can get the good parking if there are any spots actually available. On more news, I'm very proud of myself. I apparently had some muscle memory left from 7th grade Home Ec. class, and was able to navigate getting thread on a bobbin and setting up the tension a sewing machine as if I done it yesterday rather than 40 years ago. I was really quite shocked my fingers knew what they were doing. My mother actually made the curtains I was planning, as apparently my ability to sew a straight line is where it was in 7th grade as well. Ooops.
  3. If my head cold clears up (I'm on the tail end), I'm heading out tomorrow, 34 degrees or not. Physical therapy is definitely helping my ankle joint loosen up, though the surrounding tendons, which haven't been used as much as they should have been aren't liking me much, but that should be okay on the bike. Hoping to get 20 miles in, even if I take a breakfast break....okay, I just want to take a breakfast break; I admit it.
  4. You're bike is looking really sharp, Raffy. I was hoping to ride tomorrow morning, but damn it's cold. Ankle is not happy. Maybe I'll ride to physical therapy. It's a noon appt. six miles away. Should be nicer out then.
  5. Happy birthday, naaman! Sorry you're buried in work, but hope you schedule yourself a little celebration some time soon.
  6. X2 on the Gatorskins. I had 28s, got a slit, but no flat, now have 25s and have put over 1500 miles on them with no flats. Congrats on the weight loss. I lost 26 pounds since the injury, and though I took a break from dieting, I've maintained that loss for six weeks (up one pound) but have been eating more calories than I was before. Go figure. I'm going to start a second diet round next week, and hoping to drop the last 20-25 I need to get off my ankle. I've been eating 95% paleo with a couple happy cheat meals thrown in. Just had some lobster mac and cheese tonight. Makes me think I should just stay a fat person. Nice Bianchi, new person.
  7. Started physical therapy today. It's too bad I had to wait to get injured to do this. Not only is he dealing with my bad ankle, he took one look at my sucky other foot, and said, "you don't need orthodics, you need hip exercises," tested my left hip, which is apparently scary week, and gave me some things to do so stop the extreme pronation. Stupid freaking podiatrist said I must have diabetes, since he'd never seen only one foot so bad in someone who didn't. Anyway, I'm really very hopeful today. Did pedaling drills on the Computrainer this morning, and am actually going to try some interval stuff on Wednesday.
  8. Whoa! I missed this as well. Steve, happy birthday! Sorry about the back, but glad that it's on the mend.
  9. Other than having booked a room or bought a ticket or gotten time off work, I'd say I'm in. Will sort the rest out this week.
  10. Just catching up after not visiting this thread for a week. Some very cool doings. Nice! Knucks, big hugs to you, and godspeed to Heidi. I've been uber busy. Mom's still visiting, which is good, but _______ . Work has been its usual nuts, and I'm still, as always, behind on documentation, meaning I'll be working this weekend. I also have been working out pretty much daily, trying to put some muscle where this fattage is now, and I'm starting physical therapy three days a week on Monday just to take up more time. That's about it. Fairly boring, but time flies. I've been missing seeing friends a lot lately. Maybe in a couple weeks once mom's returned to Michigan.
  11. BTW (I seem to like posting a lot in a row today), Mike, Raffy, and John were about a half a mile away from me on A1A when I was at Luna Rosa. Sucks I missed them. The bigger suck had to be for them as they had a good 15-20 miles going home in a nasty headwind. That'll teach you for not calling me!
  12. Okay, more pics of the Kirk: I also love the paint job.
  13. How did I miss that post? Cool bike, Gene. I like it. Speaking of cool looking bikes, I'm taking the liberty of posting a pic of our resident lurker's (Parris) Kirk. I love that bike. I'm also in a quandary. I've been so excited for mine, and I've been told late March/early April to start the process, but I also can't quite see dropping money on my dream bike if I really won't be able to ride again much beyond what I'm doing now. I'm still keeping the hope.
  14. You know what? We now really need HC jerseys. Maybe Edwood can help out.
  15. Yay, Gene!!!!! You aren't one of those evil mountain bike guys, though, are you? BTW, is it bad that I just bought a second car so that my bikes can ride inside?
  16. I'm out a Luna Rosa's having breakfast in the middle of my first outing in many weeks. There's a nasty headwind, but I feel good. I'm still in the lowest possible gear, basically just spinning, but the than a little shin splinty feel, this is the best I've felt on the bike since November. I start formal physical therapy on Monday. I got a new workman's comp re, who is actually working with me, and he allowed me to pick my own PT, one I could never afford on my own, who doesn't give the actual therapy to office staff, and he's also a cyclist. Hoping to get my muscles back in my calf, and maybe sneak in some hip flexor work on the side. I've been doing Computrainer stuff 2x a week. Yesterday was hill work. My hip flexors are super tight. Bah. Anyway, my steak omelet is here. I'm signing off, still slow but happy.
  17. Happy birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  18. I missed it! Hope you had a wonderful birthday!
  19. I'm slow. I hope you had a wonderful day!
  20. X2. I've been sick. Visiting mom has been sick. Have roof problems. Been working too much. Blech.
  21. Happy birthday!
  22. Catching up here. I've been fighting a bug going around the office, plus getting some household things done. I've been doing Computrainer stuff twice a week now for a bit, with 90% of that being not much more than spinning while working on form and pedal technique, which is good for me anyway, since I'm...er....not efficient. What's weird is that my good leg is worse, as far as that goes, than my bad leg. I'm happy to report that one thing has improved from when I first started out last year. I hadn't done high cadence drills in a year, and basically couldn't do them before as I was hopping around on my saddle like a rabbit when I got things anywhere above 95. I've been working on my core pretty heavily, and what a difference. I now able to maintain 115 plus for two-min. interval repeats without rocking. I still can't do anything that requires me putting much pressure on my foot, but things are improving. If I feel better tomorrow, and it's not raining, I am going out for a ride. It's been about a month.
  23. Happy belated birthday, Jeff.
  24. Happy belated. Hope it was a great day for you!
