Glad you're feeling better, pigmode!

I'd like to propose a late summer, early fall hc cycling meet. I think that's enough time for some of us (selfishly thinking about me) to get in shape.
-
Dan, I've seen the pics of your driveway. If they resemble the hills around there, they will still be brutal.
-
Thanks, Nate. If I need to, I'll pull back or take a break. I've been working on the computrainer 2-3 days a week for a couple months now, and doing short 10-20-mile rides, so upping that slightly doesn't seem like too much of a stretch. I'm signing up for a metric century charity ride on May 11th, so.......

So, I just took a look at my goals, and they still don't seem unreasonable, except maybe the hills, depending on my ankle, though I'm already three months behind on the riding goal. I think I'm going to stick to goals for the month. Since tomorrow starts a new month, here's April. 1. 80 miles average a week. I've been getting in anywhere from 20-60 during the week on the trainer, so that goal seems realistic, even if I have a bad week. 2. Get to 135. That's five pounds from where I'm at now, so hopefully doable. That's it for now. If I can get that mileage in at whatever speed I can handle, I'm going to start intervals in May.

Congrats to you! I'm pretty sure I have some boxes I never unpacked. Moving, indeed, does suck, but here's to new beginnings!

Jeff, I find it really meditative, probably because I'm just riding along the ocean in a straight line, and at least where I ride (north from Delray Beach to Palm Beach), there are very few traffic areas or lights where you have to stop. Riding south, near where John lives, is more annoying, and I'm done after 30 miles. I actually find it easier to go long when riding alone. I'm kinda surprised on the difference between only a few weeks ago and the past week. Physical therapy seemed to do the trick. Although workman's comp will no longer pay, I'm signing up for one more month. Feel better, Chris! John and Mike, do you want to ride next Sunday? I'm getting the hitch put on the Vibe for the 1UP bike rack on Saturday morning, but I think I'm finally ready to ride with friends again.

Nice, Dan. Time for you to get riding! So....drum roll please....52 pain free miles today! I'm back!!!! I broke out the Calfee, and I forgot how much I liked these wheels and tires. I thought I was going to do a quick 20, but felt so good I kept going. I was aided by a beautiful tailwind going north, and rode faster than I ever have before: 19-22 the whole way, minus the crazy church traffic section in Palm Beach , and even kicked it up to 23-25 when I was trying to impress a couple handsome older guys, but that only lasted two miles I'm still sorta shocked. Of course, that same friendly wind kicked my azz on the way back home, and I was back between 14-16 mph, but I wasn't alone in that, and even the groups were chugging along. I seriously bonked the last five mile. Between the gusts coming off the ocean, and the fact that I'd eaten nothing since dinner yesterday, and no carbs at that, I'm surprised I didn't die out earlier. Mile 32 at the Palm Beach Inlet.

That bread looks amazing. I miss bread Congrats on the job, Lloyd!

Happy birthday, Doug!

Just got back from 25 slow, but 100% pain free, miles. I'm basically back to where I was last year at this time, slowest rider on A1A (14-16 mph), but having fun. It was gorgeous out, and finally not too windy. I feel good.

I know. I actually feel undeserving in comparison to all the riders he has, and still builds for, but I'll love it just as much, if not more. The numbers are nearly identical to my Gunnar, (seat tube 1cm shorter; top tube 1.5 cm longer, and I'm sure some angle differences that I don't know about), which I like because after the last seat raise (identical to his recommendation), it's perfect. I do like the drop I have currently, but I'm trusting Dave.

So happy for you, Brent!

Oh....I was so excited, I didn't see the new posts. I love the old school Trek, Pars! Yay, Ari. Gloves and shorts and Spring weather coming!

Looks like Monday may be build day! Comparing to the numbers on my Gunnar, here's Dave's last email: I’ve worked with your numbers and info and like how it all comes together. I don’t want to make any drastic changes to your fit based on what I see. I’d like a bit less bar drop and a few millimeters more reach (together they should mean the same body angles). I’ve also worked the numbers so they handling should be right on and you should have no toe overlap. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns and I’ll do my best to address them. I have all your raw materials in stock and will be ready to start the build on Monday if we both feel good about the design

Get well, Larry!

I used the myfitnesspal app, and the loseit app prior to starting thus diet. They always recommended around 1600 calories without exercise for me to lose one pound a week. I gained about a pound a week on that calorie recommendation, and that was while exercising. I had to eat 1200 calories, maybe up to 1600 if on my bike for more than 40 miles. I don't necessarily believe the statements about this hcg diet, that it resets the hypothalamus (sounds like a lot of hokum to me), but all I know is that I can actually now eat about 1600 calories without exercise with no gains, and up to 2000 if I exercise. It feels so much more manageable. I don't know how this diet works, but I, and six other co-workers have all had the same experience and success, and no one has put the weight back on. I've been reading this book, which has nothing to do with the diet I'm on, but it is interesting:

How did I miss this thread since dropping poundage has been a primary focus for me since the beginning of December? Congrats, guys! Very impressive losses. I never thought I'd put this out in public, but what the heck.....I'm currently eating strict paleo with a rather severe calorie deficit, aided by the controversial, but definitely easy peasy, hcg. I'm working with a doc, taking injections, though am not on the original 500 calorie protocol, as I get an additional four protein shakes a day. I'm on my second round. I lost 26 pounds in six weeks on the first one, kept all of it off, except one pound, eating more than I had ever could before, for six weeks. I started a second round 23 days ago, and have lost 16 pounds so far with three weeks to go. Prior to doing this diet, I was cycling over 100 miles a week, weight training three days a week, eating healthy, minus a couple big meals a week, and only lost seven pounds in six months. I also had my base metabolism tested at 1023 calories, meaning I couldn't eat anything without gaining. I never had a weight issue when young, enjoyed being 10-15 pounds over weight in my 40s, but once menopause hit, it was like my body just blew up without my permission, and nothing I could do would change it. Right now, although I'm annoyed with the restrictive choices on my diet, I'm not hungry at all, have a ton of energy, am still working out six days a week, and feel really good. I'm 12 pounds from my goal of 132, which I should be able to get to, or at least get close to, in the next three weeks. That will be a 48-pound loss from my scary weight of 180 on December 3rd. If my experience holds true from last round, I should stabilize easily (though no starches or sugars for three weeks post end injections, then add them in). I plan on doing a primarily paleo diet, 80/20, when I'm done, though may do a Whole 30 to kick start things.

^ Nice! Started email conversations with Dave Kirk. He is recommending I don't go with the Terraplane seat stays, which I'll admit slightly disappoints me as I think they look cool, and are one thing that makes a Kirk bike a Kirk, but his reasoning is that due to my seat tube being small, the seat stays are quite naturally going to be small, and the Terraplane option wouldn't really offer any noticeable benefit in performance or comfort. He's suggesting straight seat stays as he can then use the lightest stays he has, which will cut some weight and still provide a nice ride. I, of course, am going with any recommendation he has. This one will save me $350, which, I suppose, salves my temporary disappointment.

Taxes done. Return nearly pays for my new bike frame. Yay!
-
Nice, Brent! With your bad back, please get one of your lbs buddies to give you a couple good fits. I know mine fit changed as I lost weight, got more flexible, got a stronger core, etc.
-
How the heck did I miss this? I gotta check in more often. Al, I hope you had a wonderful birthday!
-
Got measurements for the Kirk done, raised my saddle on my Gunnar a bit more, made appropriate other adjustments, and all felt great on my ride this afternoon -- finally no weight on my hands unless I want it. It was really windy, but I felt good. My ankle has done great the last two weeks. Now I just have to get my legs back in shape. Very happy. Hoping for a wonderful ride tomorrow. Sorry for the sucky weather for you northern guys.

I'll bite. Just let me know how much.
