I liked the D5000s, just not in comparison to other headphones. My D2000 hate may have been partially due to having received them with the pads reversed, and me being too stupid to think of that, but only wonder at the designers' stupdity at such weird pads. I personally am waiting until Spring for Senn (if not earlier). I am 99.9 percent sure come CanJam time, my wallet will be open.

Nice collection, son. Though I prefer Team Sony, I'll admit to enjoying the W2002 and AD2000, and almost bought the latter until listening to jp11801's pair and knowing it wasn't really for me in the long run.

I also use the Shure olive foam thingies. I get a better seal with the flanges, but I can wear the Shure for a longer time, and they can be removed and reinserted much easier, if you end up in an environment that might need to happen multiple times (work, school, waiting rooms in doc offices).

Embarrassing update: the owner of the Denons pm'ed me yesterday to say that he couldn't understand my impressions, and after investigating, discovered that Drew at Moon, when doing the recable, reversed the pads. No wonder I couldn't get them damn things to rest right on my head. I should have figured it out, and I kept messing with them, thinking wtf, but it never entered my mind that they were actually reversed. I just thought the designers were really stupid. So....let's say that accounts for at least some of my less than common negative impressions. I'm not actually interested in investigating them further, but I'm willing to say that a few things I've said here may be wrong based on me wearing the damn things wrong. Oooops.

You can certainly trounce the sq of the 770s, but as others have said, what's your budget, what sound do you like (if you know), and how/where will you be using them? Are you looking for just headphones? If so, what source/amp (or none) will you be using? Is closed a necessity (that really limits things)? Etc. Snob.

The Hornet is a good portable amp and sounds better than a lot of amps out there, but then there's more out there that sound better than the Hornet. I prefer the SR-71 and PRII by far, but they aren't exactly portable. The Rockhopper mini^3 beats it for sq at 1/3 of the price. I've only read of the Xin amps, but will hear a selection this weekend, along with Justin's portables, which I've also never heard. I've never heard a Meier amp (strange, now that I think about it). Welcome to head-case, maschuu!

To make it all weirder, the mailman was ringing my doorbell only seconds after pressing "send" on an email telling Larry that if I didn't have a full refund by Monday I was taking legal action and advising all to band together to do same. It's charging now. Immediate impressions are favorable, but who really knows. I only listened for a few songs, and I still don't quite believe I even have the thing, so judgments are clouded by some excitement and some serious suprise. I was just focuing on if everything worked. It does. I like it with the Etys (the bass contour is nice here), but got some conjestion in the upper mids with the HD600s. It's a fairly bright amp compared to my PRII, which, for some reason surprised me, and I'll have to get used to that presentation. The size is between a Hornet and the PRII or SR-71, but thinner.

As for the Distrubing Trends thread, I know it was rude of me to suggest that portable amps suck with K701s and HD650s, but I find it interesting that some people need to make themselves happy by deciding I'm...let's see...snobbish, elitist, condescending, ridiculing, AND belitting rather than think saving their money to buy something more suitable than a $100 Go-Vibe for certain headphones isn't a bad suggestion. Ah well. I'm done.

Nice. The ears would be mine, and as far as I know they were an international effort of German, French, and English design. They've since been refreshed (a DIY job) by simply removing the really bad attitude that covered them that day (as evidenced by the fact that I spent most of the afternoon denoucing the Transporter, the GS1000s and the Woo5, then curling up on a couch, playing with the radio on a Clix2, pefectly happy while listening to baseball and bad Creole stations with an unamped L3000). EDIT: the L3000 moment as evidence of a trippy attitude, not removal. A day of sleeping and a stash of new CDs in the mail was the method used for clearing things up.

I'm pretty sure that's a special order, but probably best not to get it. Chewy caramel and iems don't go together well at all.

Definitely. It's at the top of my list for what I'll pay attention to this weekend. I was disappointed in the Transporter at the last meet, though am willing to partially chalk up my judgments to the cranky brat mood I was in when I spent time with it. I really hope to enjoy the Cosecant. Mike, do you still have a Transporter? I wouldn't mind doing a comparison with fresh ears.
