He's gotta get some real amps first

Club music is definitely out. As for trance/techno, I'm not so sure. Last time I did anything worthy of sucking on a pacifier, it was still legal, I didn't need a pacifier, and I didn't need music, come to think of it, either. Do you have specific suggestions for me to check out?

Thanks, Dusty. There's some I know, but hadn't thought about in forever (Manfred Mann, Ministry) and some I never heard. I recently gave my CD of Friday Night in San Francisco to a kid who was moving/driving from Florida to LA. Great driving music. You just reminded me to get another copy. That would be perfect.

New York's Alright If You Like Saxophones and I Don't Care About You were excellent, but the problem with Fear is that the songs are short and as soon as one ends, I end up looking at the damn timer and think I'm dying and no time has passed. I can think of a couple Tom Tom Club and Devo tunes that might be good. Thanks. I've never heard of Lets Active.

It's really a rather unattractive sight as I'm practically falling off the machines, and if I had the breath to curse, I'd be swearing like a sailor, so having anyone picturing that really wasn't my goal. I'm more or less looking for suggestions for longer songs that have a bit of drive to them. Classic rock and blues-based tunes have so far taken the lead, but that would get boring after a couple days. A have a CD of a Flamenco guitar contest in Spain for prisoners where the winner get outs of prison, just gets to walk out. A couple songs from that worked great. I just wanna see what you guys have in mind. Expand my limited selection.

Since my trainer has decided to stick me on a stairmaster and/or elliptical thingy for one hour six days a week, I need tunes to get me through the tedium and misery. I absolutely HATE the let's-get-moving music gyms play (fortunately, I'm in her home and have no competing ugly music blasting). I hate club/dance music for the most part and music with programed drums. I just want to forget I'm on this damn thing and make the time disappear. I've had my ipod on shuffle, and have found that some songs, usually long ones, and ones I've known for years but still love seem to work best. I start listening, get happy, and time blows by. I want to create some playlists so I don't have to keep fumbling with the ipod every time something wrong comes on. I'm open to a lot (Beethoven's 9th was stunning), but here are a few that worked great the past couple days: Sougourouni - Boubacar Traore PPA - Rodrigo Y Gabriela Baba O'Reilly - The Who Little Wing - Stevie Ray Vaughn The Weight - The Band Who Knows - Hendrix/Band of Gypsies No Quarter - Zeppelin Whipping Post (live at the Fillmore) - Allman Brothers Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

I'm locking this thread due to the abject stupidity of the opening post. EDIT: and it looks like the op got his wish -

Why is this even a thread? -
No. It's kinda funny, along with being a bit scary.

I don't want to know what that is. Sounds scary. Nenso, welcome to head-case.

I seem to be late, Ian, but congrats on the condo. Justin, nice score. I'll be curious to hear your impressions as well.

lifting gloves heart rate monitor These people (husband and wife tag team) are killing me. At least I learned today that I can still do pull ups (even if I won't be able to lift a coffee cup tomorrow) and that Beethoven's 9th is great for cardio.

I am not a fan of the D2000s, and I like these, though I'd put them at the same quality level, just different sound. Also, I have a pretty small head. I had to hold the GS1000s to my ears, even after messing with the headband, if that gives you any idea. The ESW9s are very comfy, and were so from day one. I'm also more sensitive to sibilance and highs that most people I know. I have no problem with these. The only ATs I've heard multiple times are the L3000s and the W2002 and the AD2000 once. The ESW9s are slightly warm and a bit laid back. They, if memory serves, have little in common with the AD2000 and are somewhere between the L3000 and W2002. Amped decently, they really fill out. I wouldn't put them in the same league as any of my home headphones, but they're good and very enjoyable. Because they are portable, closed, comfy, and really good looking, along with sounding good, they're a keeper. I haven't yet tried them out with anything other than portable sources and amps yet. Maybe this weekend I'll see what they can do.

Please explain the Xin phenomenon to me

Please explain the Xin phenomenon to me

Filburt has a point I didn't think of in that they seem to be modified both by Xin and users every few months. I have no idea what versions of any that I heard, (Voltron might step in here as he brought all to the meet), so when I say I was disappointed in the micro, for example only, I don't know if it's the same micro others have been hearing. -

I heard 4 different Xins at the recent Florida meet (mini, micro, Reference, and some other one I didn't like much) and was a bit disappointed considering the hype, especially with the Reference and the micro. I agree with Grawk in that I think they're good (I liked the Reference), but when compared to other amps, they were less refined. The micro and the mini and that one other one seemed to give a lot of oomph and fullness (I can see them being good with Etys, though I didn't try), but there was a sacrifice in separation, detail and that basic nuances that allow me to enjoy music fully. When using an ipod, they were pretty good, but when hooked up to a decent home cdp and using the K2 HD cd to test things out, the bottom end of all the Xins lacked clarity, and smushed things together so that a tympani roll sounding like a powerful mess, whereas on other amps, you could clearly distinguish the strike and tones. I preferred the PRII, SR-71, AE-2, and Diablo over the Reference, which was my favorite of the Xins. I understand why people like them the same way people like a Hornet. They give you a sort of "wow" the very second you start listening, but I prefer a more refined sound, and had somehow gotten the impression that's what Xin did, but no. Since the major differences were distinguished when using a considerable better source than would be used in daily walking around town, I liked the Reference enough to recommend it if someone were interested, but that's about it. -
oicdn has returned to post again, which certainly qualifies him for the list, especially since he continues to talk about things he knows nothing about as if he does over on head-fi. Does he not think anyone notices?

Very cute pic. She has a very mischievous look to her. You're going to be in trouble down the line.

What is it that you like about the upper-midrange? This is the only area, even if I'm being picky as it's really quite decent, that sounds off in one or more ways, or are you just comparing it to the ESW7 (do you mean ES7?) and HD25-1.

Reporting in on my 3rd day with the ATH-ESW9s. I'm happy. I haven't tried out any reference CDs, or really any CDs since the first couple hours, nor have I really been listening critically. I'm just messing around and enjoying them. Been trying out different portable amps and going ampless with an imod and ipod. Though they sound okay and more than loud enough, even at mid point with an ipod's volume, after listening to two days with different amps, two songs in without an amp had me out of bed and looking for one. Sq suffers without. Tried them with the PRII, Diablo, SR-71, and mini3. Right now the Diablo on high gain (which I wouldn't call high gain at all) has been the best match. Can't wait to get my Pico, and see how that goes. These are somewhat laid-back headphones, with decent detail, imaging, balance. There's something a little funky happening tonally in the mids, mostly upper mids, and but I can't quite place it yet. I'll have to bring out the CDs I know best, and not just keep things on shuffle. So far I haven't been in the mood to bother. These are very enjoyable headphones, and I've been enjoying them. The bass and lower mids are the most enjoyable and the best I've heard in a portable headphone: fairly tight, decent tone, very present but not too much so. The highs are fine for me, and this is usually my trouble area with headphones. They're smooth and clean. If I have one complaint other than my fuzzy questions with the upper mids, it's that they are not good headphones for rock. They are very polite headphones. Acoustic, jazz, and chamber music all sound good (I haven't thrown any symphonies at them yet), but they don't do it for rock, and metal lovers will not be liking them much at all. Right now, I'm listening to Swordfishtrombones and the ESW9s are perfect for this type of music. Earlier, I had some old Violent Femmes going, and it wasn't happening at all. Kiss Off is supposed to sound like a fuck you song, and it sounds like a let's have tea together song instead. Blech. I think the question becomes are they worth the $300 they cost after shipping. If you're comparing them to Senns or K701s that run similarly priced or even slightly less, the answer is no. They are not as refined, and are simply not as good. But, if you need a closed portable headphone that is super comfy, doesn't require an amp (though sounds much better with), and just happens to be gorgeous while sounding really good, I think they are worth it. There really isn't anything in that category that comes close that I've heard, but I haven't heard everything, so who knows. I'm not going to be looking. These are pretty dang good.

Tofurky kielbasa, fresh aspargus tips sauted in olive oil, garlic and hot sauce over large couscous. Two clementines. Protein powder shake. My new trainer doesn't want me eating so late, but then she wants me eating more calories and more protein. This is hard work. I can't eat this much since chips and guacamole aren't allowed. I'm still 300 calories and 50g of protein shy of what I'm supposed to have today, and I've eaten 6 meals. I guess I'll toss back a couple more shakes. I gotta figure this stuff out.

I know. The past year and a half has been the only time in my life that I haven't worked out or been involved in some physical activity. I can't believe I let myself go like this...ugh. About four years back I also dated my trainer, but that didn't work out so well when I dumped him (he was way too into himself), and going to the gym became something to avoid since he worked there and turned into a real ass every time I showed up. Anyway, I just met with the trainers (husband and wife) and handed over two-weeks pay just for starters. Good thing I got a hefty bonus last month...Thrice is probably laughing since he knows why. They work out of their home, and I gotta say their cardio room is nice as it's also a very large home theater room. I think I'm going to like these people. I'm allowed to show up whenever I want, walk on in, choose what I want to watch and/or listen to and get going, and as long as I show up 5-6 days a week for cardio on my own, they give a "discount" (minimal) on the weight training three times a week. You don't show up for cardio, they raise the rates on personal training. That works for me. So, this is my last purchase, since I now need to double my protein intake and I don't eat any animal products at all. I'm now officially broke. Nate, that's a gorgeous cabinet. My grandfather used to build beautiful furniture as a hobby. I wish I could have learned from him before he died.

Really nice.
