All I can say is that a used Exemplar Denon (have only heard the 2900), redbook only as other sources do better sacd, trounces most players I've heard in your price range, and equals ones I've done fairly serious comparisons to (Esoteric DV50 & SA10) that run much higher. I don't have much experience with a range of cdps, but I'm happy with it as a source for my R10s, and won't be upgrading unless I win the lotto and take a huge leap and/or go balanced. Postjack is on the hunt for an Exemplar right now as well, so you may have some competition.

It says "boomana 2007/head-fier of the year" Steve made the stand for me because I was voted that on head-fi, even though it was the head-case voters that got me that title. Gotta love irony. Actually, I just love the stand.
-
Steve graciously made me this stand. I took a couple lousy pictures that weren't good enough to post. Nate took this one at CanJam, so I finally get to show off how beautiful it is. I think Iron Dreamer took a few good shots as well if he gets around to showing them. I also got to see Steve's work on Jay's amp and stand this weekend, and the pics I'd seen prior don't do it justice. Thanks Steve for beautifying our gear!

morphsci got a nice new car. I should be buying a car, but instead I'm buying a nice new amp

NKOTB - TTVJ/Millett 307A Headphone Amp
boomana replied to n_maher's topic in Headphone Amplification
I don't like the looks at all, but I loved the way it sounded. It was my first WOW moment of CanJam (with 650s) and one that has stayed with me. Wonderful amp, but also had a pretty intense source. I'm not trying to take anything away from the amp, but when you're hearing an amp for the first time along with a source for the first time, I'm hesitant to say what where etc. The rig was one of my favorites there, that's for sure. -
I agree with Jay re how it sounded. I heard his rig with his old cdp and then the Drew's personal modded Original (though I think Jay bought a level two modded one). It was a significant improvement. I was thinking that his balanced K340s and Massive Attack amp didn't sound much different than my SE K340s and Extreme Platinum. The source switch brought out better imaging and sense of space, especially in the K340s already nice midrange. I wish, like always, I could have spent more time checking it out, but there was too much to listen to, and at some point, the ears and brain shut down. Congrats, Jay, and it was great hanging out you at CanJam.

I have no idea, but he did walk and lie down on it. I'm pretty sure I didn't press them.

Well, I missed that you'd hooked up the dac entirely, though I did listen to the RS1s for a bit with it. I do know that after I heard the 808 with Pete's wonderful amp in the ttvj room, I kept wondering how your amp would sound/compare if similarly sourced or close. I still think it has more potential than allowed, but I do know that the 650s were shining with it, and I'm...ahem...a bit picky about those. btw, I'm heading over to pp now for the tubes. Thanks, Nate.

I love you! Fixed! Must have been Puss and Boom Audio's chief tech Ivan at it again. What the hell is that horrible feature for?

I'm trying to organize my thoughts to post some impressions (very first take), but I'm flat out zonked. Matt left for Radiohead. I'm going to sit around doing nothing. Listening to Bicycle Face. Thanks, grawk! Note to self to talk about later: jay's massive attack with the moon modded Original RWA Sig 30.2/ Isabella dac/K1000/R10 Rudistor amps and Ultrasones ALO modded 780s (yep, with the ugly Jena) ttvj's 808 and pete's beastie with 650s (first wow moment of the meet) headroom max with the K701s headroom desktop speaker getup Stax 4070 (finally got to hear these) grawk's rig UE10s and 11s (universal tips) Genesis speaker set up

When did he get the dac up? I missed this?

So I get home from CanJam, and my macbook is doing something weird. I'm not sure I can describe this, it's like when a picture is too big and you have to scroll on a webpage to read across, except its the desktop, and all I'm doing it touching the pad. It moves, and the tool bars on the top and bottom no longer fit the screen. Also, no matter what I have up (like this forum) the whole page moves in the direction my finger goes when I touch the pad. It's making me crazy, and I can figure out how to make it stop. Kitty took a little walk across the keyboard this afternoon. I don't know if he messed with anything or not. Anyway, any help appreciated.

Loved Nate's amp, but it was under-sourced, and I don't think anyone got a chance to hear what it's capable of doing. First heard it for a few moments on Friday night when we were setting up with the 650s, and I couldn't believe the sound it was getting using only his ipod touch as a source. He ended up not getting a transport to use his dac, so I let him use the Lector 0.6T, which is a nice CDP, but nothing special (think Eastern Electric MiniMax and the like). I, again, only listened for a minute with RS1s (not really my thing), and was going to get back to it, but then Nate donated the Lector to Mikhail since he was lacking in sources, and that was that. Mikhail ended up buying the Lector, allowing me a UE11 purchase, so Nate did everyone else a favor except himself. I think some local guys need to get a meet together before any real impressions come out. I think it's a great amp, and the pictures don't show how massive it really is: truly a menace.

I just got home. There was a final breakfast and some verrry slow moving about. My car's still filled with gear, and I don't care. I'm tired. Let it stay there for awhile. I'm happy, but tired. Team Florida might just become a travel team only for awhile. I'll post thoughts about gear later, but want to say straight up that the best part of the meet was hanging out with folks, especially Nate, grawk, pj, the monkey, and philodox from the head-case crew. Thrice, you were missed:

Too tired to post impressions. Just left Justin's room after a last listen to the BH/O2. LOVE. Sold my Lector to Mikhail and UE11s will soon be mine. Great people, lots of laughing, four nights of little sleep....nighty night now. Will try to remember things tomorrow.

Happy Birthday!

But he'll be in Florida on Friday. I'm only a little worried.

I guess it will be time to start a new slow forum then

That's because kitties are cute. You've all seen Ivan, but here's one my last wonderful cat. I still miss her a lot.

Figures. The last person who claimed to be in love with me was a 24-year-old Hasidic woman who believes she is a man trapped in a woman's body. I attract the winners. Yay, Al!!!! Don't you have a lawyering job to do? Got nothing but time to find the best pics on the Internet? That one looks a bit like Ivan, Puss N Boom's Audio's Chief Tech. I knew he was up to no good while I was in Tampa this weekend. Never trust a dyed cat...but could be good for business, since trustworthlessness is our foundation.

That's what's disturbing me. Either he's joking or for real, and either way, it's so off base, it's disturbing.

I'm not going to post this on head-fi, as even I am not that cruel, but here's another pm I just got. I almost didn't post it here, because it's actually kind of sad and freaky, but decided to only because he thinks he can first bully me in private, then kiss and make up in private. Since I don't understand his reasoning to pm me at all, and considering the title of this last one, "A Tough Nut to Crack...I Like That," disturbs me (I don't want to be cracked), I want everything in public, at least someplace. I didn't respond to either pm he's sent. I don't like to put people on ignore, but since I know he reads this thread, please don't send me another.
-
Riboge had this weird little post that went ignored in the middle of that thread: Maybe he believes Mikhail did the damage.

Happy birthday, guys!
