  1. Happy birthday from a Georgia neighbor!
  2. The ESW9s sound fine without an amp. If later, you'd want to try them with one, they do improve, but an amp's not necessary.
  3. Well, I'm a bit slow, but thanks mucho to Dan for putting this together. My favorite part of the meet was, well, meeting folks: tkam, dusty, grand enigma, morphsci, hirsch, CD44hi, cetoole, the slacker brothers, humanflyz, and others I'm too lazy to remember or look up user names. Special thanks to vpi for lunch, dinner, and the drive to the airport. I didn't really listen to much gear, but zeroed in on my soon to be future rigs. I'm not sure what happened at the California meet, but as I mentioned earlier, the KGBH SE/O2 rig, sourced this time with Todd's old, now mine, APL Phillips impressed me as much as it did at CanJam. I'm now really excited to get mine in the Fall (hopefully). The rest of my time was spent with the UE10s and 11s, using an ipod as a source with and without the pico, and later with my macbook and pico. Dan generously let me take them with me on the airplane and I pretty much spent all of Sunday evening and night and also Monday morning going back and forth between the two. I ended up choosing the 11s, but not easily or without hesitation, as they are sometimes just on the cusp of having too much bass. The 10s, as VPI pointed out, are probably more accurate, but are also less engaging. Both impressed me thoroughly, but I thought about what I wanted iems for in the first place, how and where I'd be using them, and I chose those that engaged me most. We'll see. I'm still a little nervous. UE already has my impressions. I'm hoping to have them in a couple weeks. My other listening adventures were brief and pleasing, but as my attention was pretty directed, I only recall enjoying what I heard without specifics. That's it for now.
  4. Not quite a purchase, but I paid the fee for too much weight to bring my APL Phillips (formerly Todd's) home from DC in Dan's Pelican case. I'm really happy with how it sounded with the BHSE.
  5. I've been adjusting. It's comfy, but I have this trouble with most headphones. I have a pinhead
  6. Well, I'm still having the meet, except I'm alone, so does that count? I'm in my room listening to the KGBH SE right now. I'm not sure what the deal was at the NorCal meet. This very much sounds like amp I remember at CanJam. I'm using Todd's old (now mine) APL Phillips as a source. The only music I have is the Mobile Fidelity SACD of Los Lobos This Time, so I've heard it now a few times in a row, and gotten some good comparison's in between the O2 MK1 and 2, and was surprised on how pronounced the difference is. The midbass of the MK2 is definitely more prominent, but I have to say I like both, with a slight preference going to the MK1 for my taste in sq. The MK2 is a far more comfortable headphone for my small head, though.
  7. I'll be comparing the 10s and 11s on the plainride home.
  8. Finally, after three months and three sets of impressions, UE finally has impressions that are good. So here's the deal, being somewhat indecisive, I can't decide between my avatar and this, minus the word, as the artwork, and then of course I can't decide what color monitors. I love the cat, but don't think it would work as well, and the symmetry of the flower would be nice, but translucent or solid color and what color?
  9. Happy Birthday to you! We'll have a birthday toast you in DC tomorrow.
  10. Damn, Mike. Are you going to get charged for the extra weight? Do I have one in light blue? See you all tomorrow.
  11. So we now have something official to celebrate this weekend. Happy Birthday!
  12. Al, you'll be missed, at least by me. As for the rest of you guys, see ya tomorrow
  13. Woke up, went to work at 7AM, got home at 9PM, am still working, trying to not have to bring any work with me this weekend to dc. It doesn't look good, but I'm trying.
  14. I don't think they let you bring in any pencils, or at least they didn't when I took it, though I brought some with me as well. Nothing at all. Had to lock everything you had on you in a locker. Kleenex wasn't even allowed, and I had a cold that day.
  15. I don't know if things have changed, but back when I took it you weren't allowed to bring in paper or pencils. You might have devious cheating codes inscribed on said tools. The test folks supply everything, but only give you three sheets of scrap paper at a time, and you have to turn them in at the end of the test, so I advise against writing stray death threats or psychotic ramblings as a tension release.
  16. I've had one, the purple one for pet hair, for a few years. I used the 20% off coupon from Bed Bath & Beyond and got $100 off. It was still expensive, but I don't regret it. It's the best vacuum I've ever had. I bought new lipstick today
  17. Damn. We wrote his copy and took the pic for him. We should start our own ad agency.
  18. Lots of birthdays lately, but this one is yours. Happy Birthday! Hope you're having fun.
  19. Nenso, considering I have a fairly extensive background in feminist studies, I'm curious as to how you determined the woman in question is an elitist feminist? I don't see it. Why not just a regular feminist, or a pissed off feminist, or an overweight, pissed off feminist, or even a fat, raging, immature feminist? Oh...wait. You're right. Those labels aren't fun, especially if your intention is to feel superior while putting someone else down. That is why you started this thread, right?
  20. With less than an hour left, Happy Birthday, Dan! Hope it was a good one.
  21. and how well are you doing at that?
  22. Ah...then I remain very uncool.
