I think that was the point ;p

Just be careful you don't accidentally eat them. That happens to me sometimes. Always the most expensive pair. Curse of being a fatass I suppose. Everything fucking looks like a donut, delicious yummy donuts. Sidenote: Put on a pair of K240s at the Guitar Center I was at earlier today. Darn decent sounding for a relatively cheap headphone.

transformer/autoformer-based volume control?
Icarium replied to humanflyz's topic in Audio Accessories
I dunno man I've heard some of the legends involving the volume level at which Philodox listens at. I've heard his rig is constantly outputting volume so fucking loud that the mystical 2.3 Hz tone, which has been known to cause spontaneous boners to those that hear it (Even females) and take away the boners of those that have have boners previous to the tone hitting their inner ear, in a gajillion mile radius. That loud. I'll admit to have been hit by the tone myself (Probably from Philodox's rig) while leading an eyes open group prayer at church while wearing pants that have recently shrunk to over-drying. So inconvenient. So fucking loud. -
So skeptical of headphile woodying. Totally agree with n_maher's post re: changing the nature of a open can to closed and vice versa no matter how pretty (Or hideous in most cases that I've seen) the cuppage is. I reasonably respect blessingx's take on sound so I guess I'll buy that there is sonic manipulation to a very small degree but at best seems like a very minimal sideways change or degradation than anything else. Barffff.

Todd Rose is not a kid man, he's like some sort of 43 year old has-been wedding DJ. That has to be near 10 years older than you bhd812. I mean dude is an annoying jackass that lives and breathes sensationalist hyperbolic bullshit. Sure my hands aren't clean of hyperbole myself, but that guy takes it 5 notches up on bullshit products and will keep it at that level here where NO ONE on head-case will buy into it unlike innocent newbs on head-fi and it can only degrade from there. Ohwell, I'm sure he'll burn himself out in time only to appear to stir up shit occasionally for his own amusement troll-style. Edit: Still, i guess this is all a more interesting thread addition then that bizarre series of posts involving Hydrocity's gender which made this thread seriously sad panda

Sounds like the Eclipse would be my style of player if I didn't have what is basically phase 1 on the two phase journey to my dream player Followed by the Wadia.

6th gen iPod Classic, 3rd gen iPod Nano, 1st gen iPod Touch
Icarium replied to Nanoha's topic in Portable Audio
Haha I wonder if Ken has reversed his 100 dollar price drop on the 5.5 gen Imods he's been selling. -
http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?ampstube&1194912658 Looking at the parts used and the design it sounds like it might be kinda neat. Custom tango iron for 2.5k? Maybe I'll grab this for a K1000 amp. Some of direct coupled design? Yeah okay I really don't know enough to know if this is any good ;p

Everybody is getting new sources (new DAC)
Icarium replied to deepak's topic in Home Source Components
Listening to it now, it's a beast ;p Not as many playback (Up-convert) options as I'd expect (Actually doesn't have any options just the 1) since the dv50/dv60 has a bunch as does the p03/d03... which is sad. But still sounds darn good Not sure it beats out the EMM labs SE stack, but its still a cheaper player overall. I like it more but that's more of a sound signature preference thing. The bass is insane focused deep present and textured. The more ambient sounds come from a far distance which I like and everything is crystal clear. It's a bit more upfront than the dv50s I remembered but I listened to that balanced.. but right now I have my sds hooked up and its tubed/single ended of course. Now that the ES-1 is saled and mostly boxed up I can make room for the SS-1 and hook this beast of the source to it and hopefully the ultimate qualia rig will be reborn (Though before it was with a p03/d03 which is still superior). -
It's all personal taste of course, I just kind of was curious what the actual sonic benefits of the mods are and what the overall sonic signature is.

Ah I see. Yeah I don't really trust Steve's ears per se. I am not a big believer of the K340, which while a fine headphone (I heard it powered by various K1K amps) at its price point is nothing special. But that's just how my tastes swing. Most people hate the Qualias, which I love ;p So I am probably not in the norm.
-
What's extremely good mean. Like would you tier it higher than a balanced hd600/650? I mean a lot of work has gone into it (recable/not cheap L3000 pads/wood housing and more), does these mods actually put this headphone in the same playing field as a thousand dollar headphone or even a 300-500 dollar one? I'm just super skeptical of anything like the headphile process (Other than perhaps the recable).

Everybody is getting new sources (new DAC)
Icarium replied to deepak's topic in Home Source Components
My new source is out for delivery yay! -
Does this headphone actually sound good or just look bizarre?
-
I don't get the point of those headphones at all.

Unknown!

He has an easy bias option which basically greatly simplifies the process. I saw it on Neil's es-2. I think its somewhere like 300-800 dollars I forget exactly I'd have to look at the spread sheet again. But basically you hold down down a button which corresponds to a tube and then hit + - to lower that # to 0 which equals biased.

So there are 1, maybe 2 confirmed amps out of hundreds if not perhaps over a 1-2k or more amps that we know of have this riveting? I mean even if it was the case for a certain generation of MPXs (A series that isn't even really being produced anymore... right? Maybe it is. I'm not really sure I thought it got replaced by the other lines and the PPX or something), I think it's pretty crazy to draw a conclusion on Singlepower of today based on that especially when the current lines have done away with this issue. I'm not contesting your other points regarding issues on delivery/wait times... but your point about upgrades is pretty silly. Maybe his site doesnt have a good list of them, but Moon Audio's list is pretty comprehensive as to what they are. I mean you make it sound like its Mikhail's wrongdoing that most people who order amps from him don't go with stock. So he is persuasive and can get people to buy into the benefits they bring.... but still ultimately the decision to make an upgrade/decide if its worth it is up to the buyer.

What does look like a 5 figure amp?
-
He's done a balanced extreme yeah. Akathariel or whatever has one. Also, yes the Aristaeus chassis looks amazing ;p But the ES-2 chassis doesn't look shabby either! Also, I happen to like the Maestro chassis very much.
-
Yeah almost all the makers need a better website. I haven't seen RSA's redesign but I'm guessing it could still be improved.
-
So it sounds like you are looking for transparency in regards to build quality which you feel Mikhail doesn't provide by the amount/type of screws he puts in his cases. Doesn't RSA (And others) do things like paint over caps and stuff so people aren't able to identify them? I mean I understand the need to protect your trade secrets so I have no problem with that, but that doesn't really, in my mind, put these companies who that in a different tier of open-ness. That is if you are questioning what kind of parts peeps are putting into their amps in addition to the quality of build. I think pretty much every headphone amp builder has QC issues from time to time as well as deadline issues (Pretty much every company I know of has had delays or a long wait time which usually perhaps to a lesser degree is badly estimated) as these things are hand built and if a large # have a high degree of customization its tricky. So though Singlepower may be really bad with deadlines (I feel they are generally pretty good and sometimes exceptional with build quality as long as its not a rush job...), but no one company is really squeaky clean.

Packed up for shipment ;p

Hrm yeah maybe I'm in the wrong. If the two amps produce similar amounts of heat that's cool.
