Need someone to create a thread because I'm too lazy. Alex Peychev was a lot of fun to have around. I think in general his product and presence was well received by all. Neil is pleased. (Both of them).

Take a look at my new Blue Circle SBH Headphone and preamp
Icarium replied to Frihed89's topic in Headphone Amplification
Blue Circle is a big fan of op amps even in monoblocks yar? -
All packed up. Gave foo_me a call or two.. straight to voice mail. Waiting for Girardian to take off.

Iron Dreamer has/had a prototype maybe if he still has it he can bring it. Filburt who will be in town for Thanksgiving has one but won't be here by the meet. Correct, the Esoteric balances its signals with op amps which is weaksauce. That's where APL comes in with sweet fully discrete output stages.

Yeah but that point of view, where administrators/moderator posts have more authority/officialness when it comes to matters of opinion, is one that people here should not have. They should disabuse themselves of that point of view asap or else we'll end up with a pack of sheep/yes men here as well. Though I'll admit I've been tempted by posts from Edipis to sell all my headphone shit and go into speakers full throttle (sarcastic).

Yay or nay? David Duchovny's show on Showtime (12 eps 1 season completed). This is probably my favorite show in awhile. I think the three cable shows that really stick in my mind as consistently likable for me are Oz (Buttsex), Entourage and this and partially Flight of the Conchords. Weeds is somewhat a guilty pleasure but I think its a little too inconsistent in awesomeness to really love and Curb your Enthusiasm... gets old sometimes. Even though David's character is more than a little bit whiny, god knows I can careless about the dude's family situation and the naked hotties are almost (Not quite there though) too gratuitous, but there's a lot to like in the show imo. Several good characters (The daughter), the writing/dialog, etc. I also love David's absolute total willingness to get into a physical confrontation with whoever even if they can obviously beat the shit out of him. Really brings to home how self destructive the guy is without his woman. Meh!

Mikhail told me that he probably can't make it. But he will be sending you (Neil) some of the shit he promised he'd bring and me a wrench to tighten up one of my dials.

Spook country is pretty solid. I liked it more than Pattern Recognition. What gets me is sometimes the mcguffin or big ticket items in some of his stories. I can't tell if I love it or hate it. *Semi spoiler* I.e. what turns out to be in the container was totally uninteresting to me. It's like his book Virtual Light (Besides Virtual Light I in general liked the trilogy more than anything else he's written including Neuromancer)... those glasses that everyone was after was just not that interesting. Also the origin of the crazy internet movies was also meh. Hell the maker of the boxes in Mona Lisa Overdrive? I mean I guess the relative mundaneness in the face of the rest of what all is going on is jarring and really interesting. I mean people are willing to kill other people for piddling sums in real life... and also they certainly don't need to be motivated by a threat to creation/earth to do really amazing things. So in that respect his books have a sense of realism that is really intriguing. Still... I liked the payoff at at the end of All Tomorrow's Parties a lot. I think that is either my second favorite or my favorite.. in contention with Idoru which I think might just be a little bit more solid. Overall though as fun as Gibson is I am more a Neal Stephenson guy. Other stuff I heavily like is K.J. Parker (Very good author if people don't know about him), Stephen Erikson of course and hrmmm last book that really impressed me... Spin State by Chris Moriarty hrmm Iain M. Banks has some good stuff. Okay, okay I'm sure no one cares so I'll end with that.

His amps are one of those that I have never had experience with. For some reason people keep buying them even with the ridiculous wait times. I bet they aren't bad sounding for portable amps.... I'd love to hear some opinions about them myself.

Wait are you roasting up batches of meth or crack? Edit: Oh just saw the title.

When do you consider an amp "high end"
Icarium replied to postjack's topic in Headphone Amplification
No I wouldn't qualify it as solid. I'll go as far as qualify it as cute. -
Too much edition 9 love in Headfi....have u listened to them?
Icarium replied to purk's topic in Headphones
Well if more people ever had angry penguins and polar bears on their asses then there'd be no need to fear theft. I see a rash of polar bear attacks in the near future. -

Duh it was created in the north pole. -
Seriously. That's what I've been saying from the start. Yes sometimes shitty design can sound good through some sort of quantum voodoo that no mortal will ever understand... but that's the rare-ass edge case. That being said I have heard many of Ray's products (Tomahawk/Hornet/SR-71/Raptor/Apache/B-52)... Ray does not have the voodoo.

This is pretty much what I said in the start. Decent cans, but I doubt they scale. Like the Denons. Scaling is important to me as I have state so I won't go ED9 unless I absolutely need a closed headphone with more bass (Not necessarily better) than the w5000s which while are picky amp-wise do scale quite well. -
I am a bastard. I wouldn't hesitate trading with you too ;p For one thing it'll probably be awhile before I go the NWO route for monetary reasons (I want my power amp/speakers/more cables before it and I'm getting the dv60 as is right now) so the upgrades the UX-1 Limited has over the original UX-1 (Slight improvements to the audio sefction) would be nice to help tide me over while I wait for NWOfication. Plus the blackness.

Icarium replied to postjack's topic in Headphone Amplification
I think I draw the line at either an upgraded extreme/balanced dya-whatever/beta22 or zana deux. So I guess pretty much any solid product 1500+ish. -
I dunno how bad you need the balancing but I would definitely go with [AK]Zips Apuresound v3 cable. I haven't heard it yet myself (Except with Qualias), but I'm heard the v3 vastly improve the highs which is one of the weaker points with the L3000 (Heard this from dwlglhgh)

I'd go with the Black one if you have the chance. Apparently there were only 50 made just for the ultra limited factor. Hell if you get that black one and trade me I'll ship you my silver one or deliver it to Alex for mods. I've seen the black and it looks better in person than you'd think.

Actually i had been thinking that he does. I remember he had one in his profile WAYYY before acquiring the he90/aristaeus but I wasn't sure and was way too lazy to check. Well you can certainly buy it and it looks great and I'm sure is built will with great parts... but you are going to build your own at some point anyways (HEV90) so.. well then again you can afford it. Still... you might want to wait until the APL NWO 3.0 GO impressions come out and I finally will not only be the only one on head-fi/head-case that has heard it

That's pretty hard ownage. -
It's actually a close cousin to the Dynasaur

I think the lack of differentiation between what is "good/likable" and what is "accurate" is a problem in the high end. Not saying I'm a perfect judge of accuracy but I think it is something that high end/cutting edge/state of the art designers should seek if they want to fall into that category. I don't think music appreciation and being an audiophile is the same thing. People who say things like "Don't forget to enjoy the music" aren't seeking the same things I am. I love music. Music isn't so hard for me to like that I need a multi-thousand dollar system to enjoy it. Me being an audiophile is why I need that system.

Randerson bought dwldghg's he90/aristaeus which were jjcha's so I doubt its akwoks unless navy homeboy has 2.
