Mmmm teac transport units. I'm somewhat of a fan myself
-
I'm down to do that buy as well if you know specs. (I still need that info for the toroids, or a confirmation on some specs I saw earlier.. I think they were for beta22s).
-
Yeah.. most 1k dacs these days have crap output stages.
-
Yeah that shouldn't be a problem.. i mean the end build will be at least that. I can just pay for the transformers. Distribute them and then figure out how much I need from others. It would be good to have a comprehensive cost distribution model though. Yeah good call Nate.. paypal fees are a serious issue.
-
Nod I don't entirely know how group buys work... I can cover the initial cost and then distribute cost depending on how exactly we handle the labor compensation if you can make the arrangements Nate Does that seem reasonable?
-
So shielded transformers from SumR probably what people would want? I would need to know specs to communicate to the manufacturer. If someone could help me out
-
Well don't take that to mean there isn't one... let people more experienced in the matter or familiar with the science comment I was more curious to see if you have experienced the difference/benefits yourself.
-
Oh shit mini magnepans? fuck i gotta check that out even if they are passive MMG W Planar - Magnetic 100-16 kHz 88 dB 5 Ohm 10 x 38 x 1 Maybe... bass cut off is a little bit vicious but... Oh never mind it's these huh: http://www.soundstage2.com/lasvegas2009/df_jan11mm.html Yeah when those come out I'll get them if they aren't insane pricey.
-
I dunno are there clear sonic benefits with active ground? I don't think I've heard any... but I didn't do detailed a/bs either. It certainly wasn't night and day enough for me to say either way. Sure doesn't seem to stop the Meier stuff from sounding like thin ass
-
Three boards are not required for either the beta22 or dynafet as far as I know unless you want active ground. You do not need 6 boards for what you are talking about except for if you want 3 channel for the single ended outputs. Separate outputs is not a problem with 4 boards.
-
Okay cool... I just need to know specs and price range. Let me know when the info is solidified What's hip in toroidals these days? Plitron?
-
Hrmmm I might be in the market for something... my M-Audio LX4 2.1s are crapping out after two years on the job I love them for the money and convenience, but I need something built to last a little longer.
-
I'm definitely willing to organize and do some of the purchasing/distribution if you need people for that.
-
You mean like if someone stuffs 2 boards for say me, I cover the cost of parts which equate to a stuffed board for the stuffer? That works for me
-
Luvdunhill could you factor in another 4 boards and whatever transistors/board parts into your calculations? This would be for future use and will remain parts Thanks!
-
I might be interested.. but I think it'd have to be worked out with whoever helps out with the building. So let's check in again when its further down the line
-
In the same boat sir But I am guessing he might be referencing a past thread on either this forums or next... perhaps?
-
That is well within my budget. I would like a case and all the other group buy frills as well

Official Head-Case Thread to help fix Icarium's SP amp
Icarium replied to tkam's topic in Do It Yourself
Nod amb has offered to help me out with this. Ordering the parts now Got the power supply from Kevin today... it is a beefy beast. The transformer is especially intimidating. Pretty sure that alone probably outweighs everything that is in the SP chassis right now and costs more too. -
Yeah I am on board with that!
-
Man that's like exactly the case my Rudistor RP010 Classic was in. I rather liked the case though I could have done without the handles that I guess you can wrap cables around.

I'm interested in 4 boards, but can't do the building... yet. I might be able to tap my dad/brother or dad's employees though. I'd be interested in another 4 boards if there are any left over for hoarding purposes as an eventual project for when I do skill up to be able to build them I plan on picking up DIY gear as soon as the balancing act resolves and building some of the more basic things to start.

Wish I could help with the actual work :/

Hey that's great. He definitely spent a lot of effort like Skylab does. Hrm he seems to say the GS1000 is a "top class dynamic headphone" post long burn in. And his other headphone is the RS2. Yeah unfortunately any headphones I use sound way too dissimilar for me to have any context from this review
