    SHM-CD

I bet SHM is short for ShamWow! What hasn't the greatness of that man innovated upon??
  3. Hrm I think you overpaid. I don't know about the cabling, but I got my dsd-1/i2s cable thrown in free when I bought my Assemblage 3 and 3.1 for 1800 shipped. The cable is indeed a nice one. But I've definitely seeing MK IIIs move for several hundred cheaper... so I guess it's how much one values the kimber thingy?
  4. Dibs please if you ever do sell Oh never mind I was slow.
  5. Holy shit!! Ultrasone drivers? You can't lose!
  6. Well if its as simple as that then why didnt they just tell them to stop doing that instead of being ambiguous about it? Also another horrible transgression is apparently offering volume discounts that AMD can't compete with... sucks for AMD, but I'd think the consumer would benefit from that in the form of lower prices.
  7. EU fines Intel record $1.45B for sales tactics - Yahoo! Finance Anyone have more background on this? This quote is pretty bizarre. "The European Commission also told Intel to immediately cease some sales practices in Europe, though it refused to say what those were. Intel said it was "mystified" about what it was supposed to change but would comply with the "extremely ambiguous" EU order." Is it kosher to order someone to stop doing something and then not tell them exactly what they need to stop doing? Moreover the money goes to the EU and not to AMD...?
  8. Sadly J4cbo is locked into finals right now.. they should be over this week (Started last week), but I think immediately he is moving out here to norcal to start his internship. He had hoped to complete the board-stuff prior to shit going down, but alas :/ Once that evens out though we should be back on track.
  9. Well I'm absolutely no expert, but my experience is that even the top flight Wolfson chips are not the best sounding versus something like PCM63/1702/1704 AD1862/1955 and various discete ladder dacs and probably the ESS stable. But as it has been said numerous times... I/V.. digital filter and perhaps most of all analog output stage are all nearly as or as critical pieces of the puzzle. But if the WM8741 is not the best chip money can buy... then even if you surround it with the best possible circuit is it going to be as good as one of those other chips surrounded by a circuit of equal quality? Maybe not... which is intrinsically fine since it probably will still sound good if everything else is up to snuff and the WM chip is not a bad chip per se... But this thing is 3k. Moreover the circuit may not be ~superrr badass though it may be... the digital link III is pretty solid. But one has to wonder how much R&D time/money went into the programmability/display/touch screen and how much of the cost is due to that versus other things? Shrug. I'd like to hear it Perhaps I will, and perhaps it is some sort of magical combination that lets the WM8741 blossom into a super saiyajin or some shit... but it is 3k and doesn't have any of those magical features that KG mentions
  10. And everybody needs a 3k 8741 DAC.
  11. seems to be 96/100?
  12. HD800s TTVJ FET-A BHSE/O2 Digipete's Dynamight (Assuming it's going to be there) Frank Cooter's amp (maybe... if the line isn't out of this world)
  13. Any strong recommendations? I'm interested in some good 24/96 stuff, but don't have the coin (Balancing Act payment this month + Canjam :/) or a strong enough familiarity with the common genres to flail around and figure it out myself :/
  14. Best thing I've discovered so far this year.. $$!
  15. MisterX for a CKKIII (~350 bucks) Headamp Gilmore Lite (400 bucks) Headamp GS-1 dunno 900 bucks? Maybe that TTVJ FET-A thing for ~700 bucks? I think that's pretty much what I'd look at for under 1k
  16. After this I'll only have 3... 2 are in rigs and 1 of those is in use regularly. I guess you could say 4 if you count the PDD 1500 but that's not really a dac per se.
  17. Okay mostly done now!
  18. Yeah I think it's looking like something like that.. I'm going to try and sell him on 2.0 or worst case 2.1 and go from there if he wants 4.1/5.1 then computer speakers it is.
  19. Yes computer connectivity is something that needs to be acquired as well. I was probably going to pick up a EMU 0404 usb depending on the price of the speakers. My initial recommendation was for the Audio Engine A5s but then he expressed that he wanted more speakers... Surround Bar doesn't really work with the setting unfortunately. Originally I was going to just get him the M-Audio LX4 2.1 + the extra 3 speakers for 5.1 but sadly I can't seem to source the expansion package though amazon.com has the 2.1 in stock. That + an emu 0404 usb reasonables my old set up and should do though it'd be a bit out of the budget planned... I don't think either of us really insist on computer speakers but it seems like the only way to achieve something like 4.1 or 5.1 within the budget.. it's really too bad neither Klipsch nor M-Audio do anything in that price range anymore.
  20. I wasn't a fan of that DAC though admittedly I used pretty meh tubes. The soundstage was the smallest out of anything else I've ever heard.
  21. He has nothing right now except for motherboard onboard sound and cheap company provided headphones.. hrm looks like the Klipsch ProMedia stuff is discontinued.. can always source it from ebay though, but is there anything in production that is equivalent?
  22. It's not particularly clear to me either.. I think it's basically for video conferencing/videos (In his position he watches a lot of videos put together by other teams)/music/youtube (One of his teams works on Google webmaster communication videos)/movies whatever. So it's not for really audiophile purposes.. I think video without ultra high fidelity audio (Mostly streamed) is the primary use case. The audience primarily would not just be for him as it'd be for demos for his colleagues/reportees and superiors as well so that's why it needs be speakers. We have a facilities team to help us with mounting things to walls and crap. I think mostly he just has an office, a company budget and wants to put in a decent sound system.. something that is a slight notch up on a normal logitech system.
  23. So my director asked me to like get something for his office for music/demos/whatever with a budget of ~500 in total. I would have some suggestions 2 channel or 2.1, but any more than that is kind of beyond my experience outside of computer speakers.. any recs?
  24. Okay looks like pending the last final change + double checking from j4cbo we are good to go on ordering prototype boards. I am going to do this and pay for it and have them sent to luvdunhill. He/KG and possibly Digger are going to prototype with parts that luvdunhill is supplying and pending that we are moving forward with the big order. Luvdunhill and Digger have already prototyped the circuit with hacked up dynahi boards and it seems kosher so they anticipate no big issues with these prototype boards as its only to confirm lay out. So the cost of the prototype boards and parts is going to be added to the cost of the big order and distributed across everybody. Does that sound fair?
