  1. Is it the more-bass or less-bass version? Yeah, I'd like to read more about the R10 vs. Qualia. Five paragraphs only? I know you can do a lot better!
  2. No, I wasn't thinking about the "Raptor incident." (sounds cool, huh?) I'm definitely interested in what people think about it. For some reason everyone here seems meaner and intimidating. Is it the forum software? The smilies that all look the same? I'm scared.
  3. Some dealers might have the 4070 in stock. I thought I would need to order and wait for the 4070, but a local shop had one in stock.
  4. But...but Veniogenesis seems so nice, and this Nanoha dude is kinda mean. :'( <- random smilie The L3000, W2002 and W11JPN earpads are about the same size, but the W5000's is bigger and fluffier. OP, if you like the L3000, you'll probably also like the W11JPN.
  5. I listened to a Denon AH-D5000 for the first time today for about 20 minutes. Amp was a Corda Opera and source a CEC TL51X + Lavry DA10. I used the low Z output jack. It was a brand-new pair and might need some burn-in. I thought it sounded OK, but not great. It seemed to me competitive versus the DT990-'05 (which I don't like), but not the K701, HD650 or AD2000 (these 3 I like). Bass quantity was strong, maybe a bit too over-emphasized. Soundstage size was smallish and there wasn't much air, more like the L3000 than the W5000.
  6. What the Head-case "Golden Gods" haven't heard the Stax SR-007? And the "newbies" have? What is going on here? <- random smilie
  7. I wonder which of these headphones would dearest mommy, mighty matriarch of the herd, want? Beyer DT880-'03 Alessandro MS1 Ultrasone Proline 2500 Ultrasone Proline 750 Ultrasone HFI 2200 ULE Ultrasone DJ1 Pro Ultrasone iCans (Hint: they get worse as you go down the list, and the deterioration isn't at constant rate) And of course, don't forget the Denon AH-D2000 (which I haven't heard yet)
  8. I got an Illusion ESC-1001 off Yahoo Japan Auctions. The seller still has it listed, but it went up in price from the previous JPY 55,000. Haha, spritzer is a "newbie," hahaha. Wait, I am a newbie too. \ <- random smilie
  9. Hey, someone noticed poor little ol' me getting beat up! Can you be my Head-Fi mommy (no, not nanny)? Follow-up my posts with soothing comments, bitch at anyone who disagrees with me and buy headphones for me? And maybe "Uncle Earl" can give me some free NOS tubes? Happy day, happy, happy, happy!!! ;D
  10. One balanced V3 9 ft. cable with Furutech XLR plugs ordered > installation on a less-bass R10
  11. I waited almost 4 months for a balanced Equinox LE for the HD6x0. The wait was long, but at least their estimated delivery date was accurate. I'm tempted to order something else because of the contest they're running. Two of the things I would want are contest prizes, K701 with Equinox XLR and the hardwired cable for K1000.
  12. Hey, I've been looking for a power amp to drive the K1000! And also for use with a Stax transformer box.
  13. Mama? Is that you over there?
  14. I've been looking at some "Fluke" brand multimeters. They're expensive! And it seems I would have to learn how to use it and actually do some math calculations, yuck. I will ask Mikhail if any extra "anti-909" defensive measures are available. \ I found an interesting article about tube amplifier bias adjustments: http://www.mesaboogie.com/US/Smith/biasadjust.html
  15. Yeah, the MS2i is much better than the MS1. I currently have the MS2i, and owned the MS1 twice before but no longer. The MS2i is so ridiculously cheap locally I just had to buy one even though I don't use it much.
  16. I'm listening to a W11JPN right now and it sounds very, very good. Using the Accuphase DP-500 > AT-HA5000, I think I prefer the W11JPN overall over the L3000, W5000, W2002 and AD2000. It loses in many areas to the others; details, bass quality, imaging, air, etc. But it sounds so natural.
  17. I think I'll stick with just a few upgrade options to keep costs down and hopefully a faster delivery date. I doubt I'll ever hear another ES-1 outside of attending a meet in the US, so ignorance will be bliss. Maybe if I keep the upgrades low enough I can also go for the Blue Hawaii SE. Waaah, kevin gilmore posted in my thread. Did you guys know I was in love with him and Justin for the great sound of the O2+KGSS? Yes, I posted this in the thread "An electrostat noob's Stax O2+KGSS..." in that other forum. Amp designers and builders are probably the ones most directly responsible for our auditory happiness.
  18. Whoa, 5 pages! Thanks for all the info. All this makes me, as a first-time SinglePower customer, feel much better. 1. I'll be prepared for a long wait. 2. I'll send daily emails and call twice a day. 3. I'm starting with already-built and working 2nd hand amps, so the wait shouldn't be that bad. One is pretty much maxed and shouldn't require much upgrades. 4. I won't go for special one-of-a-kind customizations and will stick with stock options. 5. I'll make sacrifices to the Hi-Fi gods every day and hope to receive fully-working amps with no issues. International shipping back and forth is going to kill me, and I'll sell the amps off instead.

    Goddammit

Wow, I didn't know it was so dangerous and predatory here. I'm definitely going to be more cautious and count very carefully from now on.
  20. I was thinking about the HeadAmp Blue Hawaii SE and communicated with Justin about it. I'm worried that it will run very hot, though. I'm still very tempted. Hmm... Yes! V-caps it is.
  21. I've read some comments about very slow build times and delayed delivery dates, sometimes as much as several months. I realize SinglePower is a small company and customization takes time. I don't mind waiting several months. I've waited months for headphone cables, so waiting for an amp isn't a problem. I'm just wondering what to expect.
  22. I found a post by "morphsci" listing his ES-1 options in his thread titled "Custom ES-1 about to find its new home" on that other site. 1). Power Transformers Plitron Custom Toroidal 2). Cardas Silver Solder surcharge 3). Cardas Audio Wiring 4). Audio Note Silver Foil in oil coupling capacitors 5). 4 Channel GoldPoint Attenuator 6). Solen Plate Voltage Input Capacitor 7). Black Gate Power Capacitors Stage I . Black Gate Cathode bypass capacitors ES 9). Dual Umbilical cord upgrade for maximum separation 10). Quad Regulators for maximum separation Other than these options, plus maybe some extra inputs and preamp outputs, what other options would be nice to have? I'm starting configuration from a base ES-1 so there's a long way to go. I will be using the ES-1 with the HE90, Stax SR-007 Omega 2 and Stax 4070.
  23. I'm new here too. It can be a bit scary here sometimes. Be careful.
  24. I can't believe I already received a PM. This was the first PM I've received, I'm so touched tears are rolling down my cheeks. Unfortunately it seems that there's no way to confirm who actually voted the last option.
  25. The poll has closed, thanks to everyone who voted. It seems the vote tied at 4-4, plus 3 more indicating either one. The only conclusion I can draw from this is to recable both R10s. To the one person who voted the last option: unfortunately I am going to recable both R10s so I can't sell one to you for cheap. As a consolation prize I offer you my L3000 for free. Just send me a PM with your mailing address and I will ship it out immediately.
