  1. That actually explains a lot.
  2. What about IEM's for added bass extension?
  3. I'd only buy a Samsung tablet or a smartphone with tubes.
  4. I used to listen to Deftones when I was 18 or so. It was the hip band that's alternative to Korn, SOAD and other nu-metal players of that time.
  5. The logistics behind all this... Unbelievable.
  6. Ok, I'll try to apply the flux more often. Scratch the switch question. I might have an idea how to do an amp with a switch that's beyond awesome (yet slightly impractical and most probably toxic).
  7. A few beginner questions- 1. Is there any advantage in using dual pole mains switches? 2. When soldering through hole parts onto a both-sides-plated PCB is it important to have neat concave solder spots on both sides? 3. If some parts happen to stand quite high from the PCB, should I make an effort to push them as close to the plate as possible? Some of my Dynalo resistors are standing unevenly and frankly I hate how that looks. Common sense tells me that doing so may minimize signal path.
  8. Adam seems to be the Emotiva this side of the Atlantic. I was torn initially between the Quad 12L active and one of them 5'' Adams (both being sold at a similar pricepoint) but somehow I shifted towards the former. My sound preferences are best characterized by the HD650, therefore I'm a bit afraid of the monitor sound being sibilant and whatnot.
  9. Not really a Quad question, but still relevant. There seems to be some notion that Wharfedale Diamond 8.2 Pro Active has essentially the same components like 12l active. Basically what I've heard is that if I don't like to pay for the fancy veneering and lacquers I could take this path. The only difference acoustically seems that it has front bass ports so distance to rear wall may not be as critical. Anyone had experience with the said speaker?
  10. Happy birthday man! And thanks for introducing me to this place.
  11. Well, at least the intake part was pleasant.
  12. What about the output stages? Same-ish?

  14. Saw InnerFidelity measurements for the HD700. The dip after 1k is quite puzzling. Also 300Hz square and impulse response looks strange- too much leftover energy after the initial spike.
  15. I'm pretty sure that there are other amps between the T2 and an energizer. I'd hunt for a SRM-1MK2, saw one recently on the other site.
  16. ARBJEKSHUN! The date shown here is from the first movie- the future time where Doc wanted to go. Hoverboards appeared in the second movie where the year was 2015. We still have some time.
  17. Happy birthday!
  18. I have already all the parts with me or on the way to me for the Sigma22. I did know about the GlassJar but I wasn't sure about getting another overseas supplier. Also all the parts for my Sigma22 have been selected according to the instructions on the AMB site. I'll be sure to double check all the voltages before powering up anything. One thing that does bother me is that polypropylene cap I got for my Dynalo. There is no way I can mount it on the board (27.5mm lead spacing) so I might glue it to the chassis right next or under the PCB. I would then solder sufficient lead extenders and hope for the best really. These were the smallest 4,7uF polyprops I could get and getting them back might not be worth the hassle. Maybe I'll be able to sell them locally.
  19. Finally got one of my major parts shipments for my Dynalo/Sigma build. The large poly caps ended being too large and I might whip up some clever contraption to connect them. Now I just need to get the Sigma22 board, some caps, RK27 and all of the transistors from AMB until I can proceed. In any case soldering was massive fun. Hadn't had so much of it since I played with my Lego for the last time. Other than that- had the solstice celebration in my work where we had some really nice chicken shashlik. As I don't drink beer (it's really a blessing in disguise sometimes) I didn't have as much fun as some did, but well... I had my fun when I got home and fired up my soldering rod.

  21. Must be all the Dynalo iterations I've seen lately playing with my THD expectations.
  22. And there I was hoping for a simple build that would allow me not to hunt for a good SRM1-MK2... That and also tubes. Btw, isn't that thd a bit on the high side? I know that thd doesn't necessarily show the whole picture but still. In that sense it seems to be "something different".
  23. My newbie eye tells me that it may be simpler to build than a KGSSHV. Then again I haven't seen the PSU.
