  1. Yeah, only the really crappy solid state designs have output impedance on the high side. My local electronics guys have a few interesting ideas about building an amp with switchable outputs- one super clean solid state with suoerb damping factor, other with higher Zout and a third with a simple tube output for even order harmonics.

P.S. I recently took a look at some Russian DIY designs and I must say that these guys are pretty damn advanced. Especially the DAC's.

  2. My preferred suppliers would be Farnell and Elfa Distrelec but none of them seem to carry it.

As I said two of the local electronics stores have them but I have a bad feeling that they get them from ebay. Some of the local diy-ers who bought transistors from them got fakes.

In any case I'm in progress of doing a full transistor test on my Dynalo.

  3. They designed the HD800 and HD650 to dry hump, and the next flagship will just be snake oil soaked HD25s.

Please elaborate. And don't forget to add for how long and on what equipment have you heard the said headphones.

  4. A few beginner questions-

    1. Is there any advantage in using dual pole mains switches?

    2. When soldering through hole parts onto a both-sides-plated PCB is it important to have neat concave solder spots on both sides?

    3. If some parts happen to stand quite high from the PCB, should I make an effort to push them as close to the plate as possible? Some of my Dynalo resistors are standing unevenly and frankly I hate how that looks. Common sense tells me that doing so may minimize signal path.

  5. Adam seems to be the Emotiva this side of the Atlantic. I was torn initially between the Quad 12L active and one of them 5'' Adams (both being sold at a similar pricepoint) but somehow I shifted towards the former. My sound preferences are best characterized by the HD650, therefore I'm a bit afraid of the monitor sound being sibilant and whatnot.
