rumor has it on their carts are worse in terms of testing gear before they sell them. I heard of some fucked up horror stories regarding their carts. i think its part of the old school ghetto building and way of building a product they never seemed to change. one a good side if something works and has worked why change it on another side to todays standards the model of quality control is not up to par. but regardless Grado has one hell of a Customer service way that not many can come remotely clsoe to. something goes wrong just Call them up and give a sob story for a free fix. Grado has wowed me lots of times with all of my issues on all my grado headphone probelms i had..like its amazing how they just fx them with almost no questions. if i had the choice of better quality control at first or better service in the end i would take the service..

Actives are really popular in the studio market..probably cause Audiophile is more of a hobby and a time waster or money waster as hobbies should be. in other words audiophiles just like to create more work for themselves just to waste time and money instead of adding in a EQ. power cords, i/c's and tube rolling is just a hard and time wasting way of EQ'ing the sound.. common sense would tell you just to ad a eq in the line... but this is Audiophile/hifi...common sense does not exist hey I tube roll and cable swap..this is my hobby after all.

i would do the r10 with more bass, given the perception you gain more separation by going balanced so... if i would do a balanced r10 i would use the stock cable, keep it as stock as possible so the only true change is getting true balanced sound..another after market cable might not sound good to you and you won't know tell it done.
