  1. I've never actually bought pads straight from stax so I wasn't sure, thanks for clearing it up.
  2. I was thinking about doing the krell balanced, that's enough caps to span my digestive tract though
  3. Has anyone tried both colors of the ep007 earpads? I was wondering if the brown ones might be softer like the older version- the black ones are very firm. This seems to be both a blessing and a curse as I can seat the drivers farther away from my ear but it seems to negatively affect the efficacy of the seal (slightly).

I understand that you are running the ESS chip synchronously, that is with master clock and bit clock synchronous, disabling any intervention from the onboard ASRC and DPLL, right? 2. I also understand that you are running your own OSF (on FPGA), and I would guess that this is the same set of filters as in the previous QB-9, outputting 705.6 kHz and 768 kHz to the ESS chip, with your minimum phase/slow roll off "listen" option, right? 3. Given if my understanding above is correct, I suspect that you are using fixed oscillators at 45.184 and 49.152 as master to the FPGA and ESS chip, right? 4. And, that the OSF in the ESS chip is off, eliminating the onboard OSF, right? Thanks again for sharing so much information here, I liked the previous QB-9, and I bet the new version sounds fantastic! Hello Barrows, Yes, yes, yes, yes, and I think so. YMMV. It's always best to listen for yourself especially with recording with which you are extremely familiar. Am I reading it wrong, is #1 referring to something independent of the ASRC that they licensed? I'm kind of a dumbass when it comes to this stuff tbh.
  5. funny you mention that thread ari, i used eletriq for my k1k when they were my main headphone. i couldnt get the presets to save properly so i became super annoyed trying to dial in the notches once a week. that pink noise sweep also killed my ears in a bad way after the first few times. id be a bit more torn using it for the hd800s, as id just be undoing their reverb/echo dsp...that they have managed to do in physical hardware haha. thats probably the closest ill get to describing what i heard, along with what was a fair amount of treble smearing. i returned them to my friend today, but ill try to give that parameq a shot on his setup when im feeling like an invasive douche
  6. is there a blessing-endowed list of transformers to grab for this amplifier? i need to make another order with sumr and this seems like a worthwhile addition to the order if a kgsshv type transformer can work in this setting
  7. has anyone read about the qb9 upgrade? it seems like ayre takes away the async and shoves an ess chip in there to get the dsd support? it seems pretty backwards compared to the original version.
  8. I ended up picking up a DA11 at the same price as the stealth, which was my second choice. I believe the stealth uses two AD1955's if I'm not mistaken, same chip in the DA11. Curious to see how the implementation differs.
  9. can anyone tell me off the top of their head if you need to upgrade the transformer to turn up the output current of the last stage? i was under the impression it was more of a no strings attached mod.
  10. I came here with a pair of hd800s in tow hoping to be entertained and I was not disappointed Misplaced modifiers aside, I've been spending a fair bit of time with these and I can't help but feel like they're making things sound particularly artificial. I also can't explain how it's accomplishing this effect, but I have noticed a lot more listening fatigue than usual- not unlike getting too chummy with the K1000. Maybe there's just a lot more high frequency energy present than the sound might first suggest? apologies for adhering to the topic, don't mind me
  11. I'm on the quest to clean up some wiring, I was wondering- if I've got a twisted pair of conductors in a single sheath which is rated for 600v, can I use each of the wires inside for the hv rails or is that reading the rating wrong? the figure 600v/200c should be per enclosed wire right?
  12. Sorry to add to the broken record playlist, but do the devices/channels require some sort of matching?
  13. I don't have boards either, I'd be down for a modification if it meshed better with the chassis. I took the liberty of adding another column to the GB page to reflect board status.
  14. Here's to hoping for some gunmetal powder-coating!
  15. a straight external card reader probably won't work. However, depending on the hardware/os choices, you can probably connect the usb input to a nas and read in music that way.
  16. Any recommendations as far as what supply voltage, etc. to build one for potential use with the k1000? my intention is to build the balanced version, but I'm indifferent if single-ended is sufficient for these headphones.
  17. Payment sent, thanks! I don't think my wallet shares that sentiment though
  18. Some info for people looking for some subsitute 007 Parts: The rubber grommet holding the pad arc assembly in place above the driver can be replaced by Kyosho VZ246, their 2mm rubber grommet which I'm assuming is for RC car parts. I just had my Stax cable replaced and when I opened things up to poke around I noticed the grommet had deteriorated quite a bit. I didn't want bits of rubber flaking off onto the driver so I grabbed these off ebay. They come in packs of 5 (lolwut)
  19. Has anyone encountered an issue where LED at the input stage doesn't light up until after your power the psu down? Could it be that I installed something backwards? Clarification- it briefly lights up during when I first power things up, then fades after about half a second.
  20. Anyone know how to determine if the electrolytics in the LV section are still viable even though my bridge was backwards for a bit? Can they still go bad even if there's no pop/leak? I've no CLR meter with which to check...
  21. Just booted up the positive rail, 503V. This was after powering on the LV section and installing the bridge backwards (thought the + sign for the cap was for the bridge), luckily I caught a whiff of something acrid. However, this wasn't before the negative regulator died. Edit: negative rail is -504V, bias before 5M resistor is 583V Time to stress test
  22. How long did it take to reach you from Italy? I think it's been like 2 weeks since my case has been in the states according to their tracking...
  23. If anyone's looking for a cheaper price on peek stuff, there's http://www.solidspot.com/shop/ They sell some parts in < 100 pieces, etc. I haven't really checked in detail. Many of these places are located in silicon valley, I'm trying to see if I can just stop by their warehouse and pay for parts haha.
  24. Just ordered 90% of the stuff (save for the transformer, but with some padding for the mouser parts) from the "BOMv1" document...some of those prices have skyrocketed, particularly the stuff from bdent. If I have a significant surplus I'll try to give it back to people here. I've read somewhere that matching isn't all that important, can anyone confirm this?
