Any performance loss in Oblivion is unacceptable! BTW. If anyone has a decent dual core A64 [socket 939] for sale, send me a PM. I just found out that Oblivion takes advantage of dual core processors... and me, using a 3000+ still.

Talk to swt61 [steve] from head-fi as I know he is ordering some AKG parts for a friend of mine.
-
Didn't I tell you about it? Shit... well, it was sort of last minute. You need to give me your phone number again. I have VoIP now.

Myself and two other head-case'ers had a listening session this sunday just past. I had a great time forcing all my music down their throats, and they seemed to enjoy themselves. I gave Micah [Redleader] my headroom hat as it doesn't fit my massive head. The picture of Nick [datamorph] didn't turn out all that well due to my poor camera skills... man I need a tripod. Here is another one of Nick that was taken with his ghetto camera. He had to beat the crap out of it to get it to turn on and it was making weird noises. NOTE: I'm not sure if datamorph is registered here, but redleader is I believe.

Well, yeah, but that's not really the same thing is it. Any idea if I would see performance losses over just running the game on XP? It has been a while since I messed around with any of those emulators.

Damn you people and your cool ass jobs. I flipped when I found out what NeilPeart does for a living... and he's younger than I am!!!

The couple times that I've went on a Linux kick I used Debian... but something like Ubuntu is probably better for a first timer. As for Linux being able to do anything that XP can, I suppose that is true from an application standpoint. But you can't play oblivion.

Yeah, that is pretty much what I heard with the Planet as well... it looks like their newer players are quite a bit different though, so I am interested in trying one out at some point.
-
Yeah, its not working for me again...

Build me something Nate!!! Your PM box is full!!!
-
Sure... now that you've fixed it it's working!

You can get your headphones recabled with female XLR's, but I would use adapters if I were you in case you get a balanced amp down the road.
-
Thanks for the impressions Jamie. I think the output caps are probably the cause of the flabby bass with your PS1's. Is your amp transformer output? That might be a good idea, but don't sweat over it... I am sure that after I talk to Peter it will be a week or two before the work is done. Not in a huge rush anyways since I am loving the amp even in its current 'half done' state.
-
Yeah, I don't think any of the impressions from that meet are really accurate as it has changed quite a bit through burn in. I also got some new 6GU7 tubes and guess what... EARL WAS RIGHT. Listening to a matched quad of Sylvania 6GU7's right now and the bass has really tightened up. Haven't given the RCA's a spin yet. I will probably have Peter finish the amp in a week or two... just waiting on a couple jacks to come in the mail. PS. My new key start power switch [rated at a higher voltage] just arrived from KG... thanks Kevin!

New! HeadRoom Desktop Balanced Amp!

Yeah, it still needs some work, but it sounds great. It was actually cheaper than that, but when you factor in the parts I bought and such it comes out to somewhere in that area. It will likely cost more like $1500 when all is said and done as I am already thinking about upgrading it. A 4 channel singlepower stepped attenuator and some better ouptut caps would be yummy. PS. I would appreciate if we keep that price here, as it was a special deal Peter gave me due to the custom nature of the project and my patience. It will likely be quite a bit more expensive if it ever goes to production.

Yeah, I think I sent Pete the link on Head-Fi a while back if memory serves.
-
LOL, wouldn't surprise me.

Output stage after output stage? The zapfilter replaces the output stage. And as for the DAC itself, the CS dac that you can get with it is the same one that is in the CD-E5, and I think it has a decent clock in it. All that aside, I have heard a zapfilter modded zhaolu and it sounded great.
-
zapfilter the zhaolu man, you won't regret it

I'm going to see if I can get a set of the Raytheon 6CG7's when I take the amp back to Peter's for the final touches. I also found out that though 6GU7 is the tube he plans on using in the end, there are actually 6CG7s in there right now... I guess I could have figured that out myself by reading the writing on the tubes.
-
6GU7... I figured that based on your description of the two they would be the perfect test to see if she tuberolls well. I'd also like to try those Raytheon 6CG7's at some point as everyone seems to be going crazy over them. I got a good deal on the tubes I think... two matched quads of 6GU7's plus shipping for $40.
