Well, if I wasn't already spoken for I would definately give Bjork a spin. Come on, she's fucked Tricky and Goldie! Two musicians that I have adored at some point in my life and one that I still like a fair bit. Oh, and I enjoy most of her work as well... except for the super creepy/weird stuff. I remember finding her hot in that movie she was in. I'm also pretty sure she would go absolutely apeshit on your cock. I just get that feeling. EDIT: She might still have that swan outfit as well... that could be kinky.

I'm not surprised. I agree with that guy completely. Peter knows his circuits, his amps are insanely cheap, and they sound lovely... BUT... he does tend to 'cut corners' [mostly because he is in a rush, I think], and have low build quality. If you want to put up with the hassle of him getting it right and are on a budget, I say go for it. If you are well off and want a nice and simple process, look elsewhere.

Congrats... I'm just going to throw my post from Head-Fi here mostly for aerius' benifit.
-
That stuff is actually identical to the magnet wire that aerius mentioned AFAIK. I will chime in with another vote for Cat6. It is solid core copper and comes in different colours... oh, and also super cheap.

The big solens are motor run... the same as the ones you use and were used in my McAlister amp. Still, even with the motor run caps 220uF is a lot. Most companies [asc, aerovox, etc] make 80-100uF max and you have to custom order to get a higher value.
-
No idea, perhaps someone else can comment. I just know how hard [and expensive] it is to get high value film caps.
-
Solen is really the only way to go for values that large... I wonder if it is worth it in this position though? Perhaps a high quality electrolytic like an Elna Silnic II or a Blackgate would be a better choice?
-
Cool... I made a difference! If you could send me a PM with info/pricing on your power cords that would be great. Do you have a different source and amp power cord or have you found a happy medium? Shielding or no shielding? What gauge? If I send you my own connectors [i have sourced some nice ones] what kind of discount could I expect? Ok, I think that is enough questions.

Bit of an AKG buying spree: electret-dynamic systems on the way
philodox replied to deepak's topic in Headphones
I heard it for a bit with the K501's, but the power switch broke before I could hookup my K340s. I remember you commenting on the channel balance of the amp... that would be worse at the low volumes you listen at. Most likely just the cheap pot they used in the Darkvoice, but who knows. -

On a more positive note, apparently by putting a 5ohm resistor across the binding posts on the charlize you can get better drivability for headphones. Can't wait to try this on mine. Something similar might work for the Sig30 or Pass Aleph if you find it lacking in any way. PS. Don't worry about me for the AKG parts order... I don't need the K501 headband anymore [unless they are really cheap] and I just realized that the velour pads people are getting for the K81DJ are actually from Sennheiser. -
Could I make a suggestion? "Where the Music is Always Pure" sounds more correct than Purer...

Who had? [and are we talking K1000 or K340 here?] That is not a good advert for the Etreme Platinum given that the Sig30 is just a tripath reference boards with a couple fancy caps and batteries that can be made for under $300 in parts. EDIT: I've wanted to check out the Darkvoice for a while... given the price it is definately worth a shot. As for low level listening with the K340. I don't do much of that, but aerius does. Maybe he can chime in. -
I can't wait to see your non cable products.

The K1000 may be 120ohm, but it sure doesn't act like a 120ohm headphone. Technically my custom McAlister amp should drive K1000's well, but it drives Grado's better for some reason. The K1000 really needs a speaker amp and the K340 really needs an over the top headphone amp. Or at least that has been my experience. Still, it is worth a try. -

Will be an interesting combo... I am sure that the K340's will get more than enough current, but I am not sure about the voltage swing that speaker amps output. I am actually running my K340's off of my charlize at the moment since Peter is finishing up my amp. It sounds good now that it is burned in, but the soundstage is a little weird and the bass is sort of one note. This is an amp that is supposed to drive an 8ohm load though, so it is doing a pretty surprisingly good job with my 337ohm K340's. -
Shit, was just about to post that. Oh well, thanks Jay. Steve also mentioned that you really have to call him... email doesn't work.

Nice, looking forward to hearing your impressions. We should hold off the AKG order because if you like them you might want to get some velour pads and maybe a K501 headband. -
No, but I can send an email to a friend on Head-Fi who likely does. I'll let you know when he gets back to me.
-
Thanks buddy, much appreciated. I might want to order a K501 headband as well depending on the price.
-
I got this album the other day, it is great.

I need someone in the states to order me a pair of those velour pads sometime... its impossible to get them in canada. I'm liking my Cardas recable on the K81D. Too bad the mini jack turned out to be faulty. Need to replace that soon, was thinking about the Canare F12, but the only place that sells them in canada [takefive] only has the cryoed plugs and they are ~$9.

Reks - Good point... I should have thought that out more. I think that an IC like this would sort of drive me crazy. If it got slightly bent or out of perfect alignment I would go crazy. I am sure that with other interconnect topologys this is happening all the time... but at least you don't get to see your IC degrading over time and with use. jpak - oh my god... those look so ghetto.
-
No, there isn't. Even if that theory is correct, what happens when the cable bends?
-
Magnet wire is not THAT stiff... I am pretty sure you could do this by hand pretty quickly. Regardless, I think it is a pretty good product. It looks neat and people will buy it. Might even sound good.
