  1. Daaamn... those are purdy!
  2. That's the idea.
  3. Maybe he skips one of the stages on the RCA outputs?
  4. LOL, that was hilarious!
  5. Not sure what sky hooks are, but I will definately keep the woo audio stuff in mind when planning the rebuild. I gave peter those motor run caps btw. I have a feeling that why his soldering looks so ghetto is that he uses a solder gun. Not 100% on that, but that is my guess.
  6. Really? We'll have to have a closer look at everything the next time we open it up... probably to install that bridge rectifier you recommended in place of that mess of diodes. Maybe so, but in reality I think most of the parts he uses are fine. People tend to go overboard with boutique parts in most cases. This is a bad thing? I might take some new pictures once we finish on it, but I think it is beating a dead horse at this point. I think we all know that his work is sloppy. I wouldn't recommend him at this point unless the person really knew what they were getting into and was ok with that. Nice, can't wait to see it. Justin does very nice work, if only I could afford it.
  7. I'm thinking it is something KA-razy like L3000's or R10's, but we'll just have to wait and see.
  8. I really don't understand Peters thing with balance controls... I think they are useless personally. Nice, I can't wait to see how your blue hawaii turns out. Thread crap? This is head-case buddy, no worries.
  9. Yes and no. I agree that a professional build should look better than that. However, my design was completely custom and I believe Pabbi's was the first prototype [could be wrong here], so the initial layout can change a lot as the circuit is tweaked. We both sent our amps back for further work as well which can only add to the mess. That said, I doubt that his production amps look much better. I think it is just the way Peter works. I'd love to see it change, but for now I am happy that my amp sounds so good... I may still do a complete rebuild at some point, but its not on the top of my list right now.
  10. Peters casework definitely leaves MUCH to be desired, but as far as the amp circuitry, it is not good, but not terrible for point to point. Before we worked on mine it looked worse than that. I was very lucky to have Renato to turn to, sorry that you couldn't work your issues out in a similar way. Shipping back and forth to Peter must have been brutal. Not sure what type of impressions I posted in the meet impressions thread, but I loved the Gammas on your amp. Listened to some stuff Peter put on as well as a fair bit of massive attack.
  11. Thats like me and the wife... and we got married when I was 23.
  12. As for the original question, I've owned both and the Dynahi is superior in every way to my ears. This is not just with the K340... also with K240S, K271S, Grados, etc. That said, if you've only got low impedance headphones the Dynalo is a great value. It might do well with the easier to drive high impedance headphones like the HD600[and family], but it doesn't cut it for the K340s.
  13. I've only played 2-3 times, but I always seem to clean up. Beginners luck I guess.
  14. Man, I'm sorry you've had to go through this pabbi. As for it turning your stomach though, I thought you really liked the sound and your only complaint was that it had some slight issues with Tool?
  15. Wait, there are three flavours? WTF?!
  16. LOL, okay... I will stop delaying it in that case.
  17. Um, yeah, I know...
  18. Yeah, but I don't have an HP-2... or any Bacon salt... and what the hell would I do with two balanced amps!?!?
  19. I've got a balanced amp that I would be willing to trade for some of that Bacon salt if you're interested...
  20. But a tube with a single triode certainly counts as one tube... it is all a matter of perception. In any case, there are 4 channels, so it would be more like 5 per channel than 10 per side. Each channel consists of one 27GB5 in triode mode, one 6BQ7A with both triodes in parallel and one 6GU7 with both triodes in parallel.
  21. hehe, well, there are 12 in the signal path [the 13th is a regulator tube]. So that is 6 per side... of course 4 of the 6 are dual triodes, so you could look at it as 10 per side.
  22. Yes... which can? It certainly looks hand wound to me... you would know better though. Just read your other reply. The wires coming out the bottom tell you its not hand wound? I wouldn't think they were that identifiable... Anything I can check to confirm? Purk - Haven't really had much time with it yet. It is on load from Konig. I will try to give it a good listen this weekend.
  23. Actually, now that I've actually read the page on the Opus... ...it looks like the output stage is on the DAC board anyways. So, I guess if I want to do a custom output stage I could just use a wm8740 evaluation board or something like that.
