Massey Hall is a great venue... They even sometimes play good music.
-
Yeah, I must have missed it as well.
-
Oops, forgot an H there in Chthon. It is not too bad, but I wouldn't recommend it to my Mother.
-
Meh... I like my Wii.
-
Ico was amazing... never played the other one and I don't have my PS2 anymore.

Well, not in Incarnations, but his earlier Sci-Fi. Cthon, for instance, is a great book as long as you don't mind a little incest and rape. Incarnations itself is just a cool series. Maybe I am biased because I liked it at a young age, but there are some great characters and I love his take on Satan. Second only to Heinlein in Job: A Comedy of Justice.

That one is pretty good, read Tigana though... thats my fave. The Fionavar Tapestry and his newest, Ysabel, are both great as well. I'm with Reks on the Mists of Avalon... pretty lame. Some of her other stuff is good though, but it's a crapshoot unfortunately. I just recently discovered Darkover, and 5 novels in it has yet to suck.

I guess we just took it a different way. I was pissed that all these second rate characters with different names were trying to be Silk, Barak, Garion, etc. Yeah, Xanth is garbage, but I still have a soft spot for the first 3 or 4. Basically, once people stop being related to Bink it starts getting horrible. Have you read Incarnations of Immortality? Some of his earlier Sci-Fi is just crazy... though he goes into a lot of 'weird sex stuff'.

A couple bottles of Export and a BLT wrap with fries.

I noticed the similarities too, which turned be off the Sparhawk series. Since I read the Belgaraid/Malorean first that will always be the one for me. The characters were great and it has some of the best war coverage that I've seen in any fantasy series. That I didn't know, but Robert Jordan is the biggest fucking Tolkien clone out there. Gimmie a break! I assume you are talking about Xanth? Ever read Incarnations of Immortality or any of his older Sci-Fi or fantasy? Piers is awesome when he gets it right... though I'm with you on Pern. Anyone here a fan of R. A. MacAvoy or Judith Tarr? I love their 'historical' fantasy, great stuff. Guy Gavriel Kay is also a lot of fun. Another one like Piers [which has good and bad days] is Marion Zimmer Bradley... The Avalon stuff - garbage. Her earlier works like Darkover, etc are all very worth while though in my opinion.

Terry Goodkind can get a little tedious, but no way is he 'the worst' in comparison to Robert Jordan!

Man, I fucking hate wheel of time. Not sure when I stopped, but it was pretty early on. Still, I'm sorry that he is dead. Must really suck for those that hung in for the long haul...
-
Oh, I can understand that. Same reason I haven't caved to the Battlestar Galactica pressure yet.

I'm hoping to make CanJam and I know there will be a TakeT there now... Interested to see if my amp can drive them directly. Did you get the balanced version?
-
Nice. I was going to offer to send it or burn it for you, but downloading is probably easier. I'd say give it four episodes or so and if you aren't pulled in, give up. The first episode is kind of slow, but the first episode that aired (train job) is pretty cool.

That sounds like more typing than I could handle on my Blackberry. Maybe I'll watch the movie this weekend (haven't seen it in a while) and try to see what I feel is missing. It will be hard to watch it as if I haven't seen the series though as I already really like the characters.
-
No, I really don't think that the movie gives you enough of an idea why people really like the show. That said, if you absolutely hated the movie and have never before liked or watched any of Joss Whedon's previous series... I agree with Nate that Firefly is probably not your thing. Then again, I doubt I would have watched Star Trek: The Next Generation if I saw one of the movies first as they all sucked compared to the series.
-
No, actually, nothing like that. The way he blended the elements in the show was genious. That's my opinion, take it for what you will... And maybe watch the fucking show before you tell us how bad it is?
-
I'm with Post on this. You need to get some indian food in your belly right now!

I'm really tempted to jump in and be the first to mod the shit out of 'em and make 'em pretty... But I'm too broke at the moment.
-
Oh, you haven't seen Firefly... I see. Probably not a Joss Whedon fan either? His style isn't for everyone, but Firefly is his best offering yet in my opinion, and will always be a favourite. The melding of east and west into a quirky space opera was pure genious. He also managed to tame his goofy humour without removing it entirely. Oh, and the companion is hot and I have a thing for River... So there's that too. I love Dead Like Me, and just bought season 2 and have been watching it, so it is fresh in my mind. Nate - I hear you on heroes, and I agree that they made some mistakes. That said, I LOVE some of the characters and even taking what they are doing wrong into account... They are doing a lot right. Looks like I'll have to check out deadwood though. Just what I need, another show to watch.
-
I've been hearing this a lot lately. What is so great about it? I'd probably say that Firefly, Dead Like Me and Heroes are my current favourites as far as series' go... would I like Deadwood?
-
I think he does some sort of soft start, but I'm not sure. Practically no ripple sounds like a good thing. I'm pretty sure I cant hear my diodes. But yeah, I'm sure the 'cheap & easy' part factors in.

I like the ones where you don't have to worry about the drivers... but the extra features on the external EMU are probably worth it.
