  1. I'm not even sure what Midol is, maybe I do need one? I don't care if someone ranks any headphone above another... I was just looking for some confirmation on what jpak meant. I've got nothing against Dusty, but I don't tend to respond well when people pick apart things I say. Sorry if I didn't phrase things clearly, but I think my question was understandable.
  2. WTF? > means greater then. If you use one between two pairs of headphoines and 4 between two other pairs of headphones it seams like you are trying to setup some sort of graded relationship. jpak is the one that 'ranked' them so, why the fuck are you even responding? 'Taking a piss' again or whatever the hell you said before?
  3. I replied to the second part of your post, but missed the first part. I'm going to blame this on the blackberry again. I do mean pleasantness and sweetness when I speak of euphony... when I talk about colorations, I just say colorations and what area of the frequency response they fall in. Like I said, though my rig is fairly neutral, it has some midrange coloration, or at least an accentuation of the midrange. This is the way I like it though, so no big deal.
  4. What you really need is both. Big balanced toob amps with a lot of toobs...
  5. Oh, for sure. I'm with you there. I mean, I've only heard the HE90 once and I would not put it past me to romantisice the situation. The Omega 2 I've heard around 4 times at various meets on various amps and it never grabbed me... then again, I hear about lots of people who have heard the K340 multiple times and never liked them. So we can chalk it up to different preferences or just that perfect system synergy that we both seemed to have reached with our respective headphones. Sounds like another headphone I know. Actually, it sounds like most of the headphones that are really good. They require time and effort to show their full potential.
  6. How much of a difference does each '>' signify? I mean, I can totally understand how people would prefer the Omega 2 to a K340, but 4x better? That's crazy talk. As for the old/bad argument. It was the unwritten message, the implication, that I was adressing. Arguing semantics is pretty much my least favourite thing to do... Why don't you page 909 for that?
  7. Thanks for clarifying that. I've always read dry as sterile or clinical sounding.
  8. To have an opinion on a headphone you need to understand how it works? I don't know about that... I agree, I always laugh when I see anyone going on about Rudistor amps. They are so crappy, and at that price it is inexcusable.
  9. My old prototype tube amp was not very accurate sounding, but was dry as hell. I've heard a few cheap chinese amps that range from dry to lush and most are not what I would call accurate. My current amp has a very pleasing euphonic sound, but is not lacking in accuracy at all. Most singlepower amps are a little tubey (excepting the over the top balanced creations), but are not masking detail as far as I've heard. Neutrality and euphony are not mutually exclusive. I would say that my rig is pretty neutral relative to others I've heard, with a slight hump in the mids. It is also very rich sounding. Accoustic instruments and vocals sound lush... As they damn well should! They sound lush live for chrissake!
  10. Hmmm... I heard the HE90 at the first national and thought it was nice too. The Omega 2's didn't impress me. I guess I'm an idiot, no agenda though. Sov has been a douche for a long time. I try not to bother with douches. Post - Does the Ed9 isolate well? Would it block out subway noise?
  11. He is implying that since the design is old it is flawed. I'm asking him to enlighten me on the extreme advancements in driver design over the last 20 years [the K340 is not actually 50 years old]. Based on what I've heard, it is a matter of different and not exactly better. Oh, I know. Same here. The Lambdas have bloated bass? mkay...
  12. No good dynamic has one note bass. I will concede that some electrostats have very nicely detailed bass, but it doesn't sound like the real thing. That's my problem with it. I was always the impression that the only truth was in Patrick82's apartment.
  13. Maybe for you, but not for me. If by unique you mean completely unnatural, I am with you there. It doesn't, if you follow what my comment was addressing and put it into that context you will see what I was getting at.
  14. Ummm, yeah, they are crazy expensive... that was my point!
  15. Please, I'm sure you can find some more insanely expensive and excessively picky tubes to throw in there!
  16. Having two types of drivers isn't exactly new, people have been doing it with speakers for years. Just because you only have one type of driver and no bass doesn't mean you need to be all jealous.
  17. I think you guys are the ones confused.
  18. Sorry, but what is revolutionary about the design of any audio technica headphone? The cutesy styling? The wings? Gimmie a break. Spritzer - You know this isn't the Stax thread, right? What are you doing here?
  19. Can't fault the man for being honest.
  20. If I could change my vote it would be for Billy Bob. That guy's nuts!
  21. Yeah, but you've all seen that animated GIF of Ray... right?
  22. Nice impressions so far! How is the isolation? I've always thought they might be a cool portable headphone to replace my K81DJs... If I won the lottery or something.
  23. Thanks for clearing that up Jim.
  24. Bah! I prefer the Lambdas myself...
  25. Definitely Ray. He is so high energy.
