  1. I know how that is. Luckily they sound great once the issues are worked out. Too bad you went with the 6SN7, if you went with the 6CG7/6GU7 I would have some recommendations for you as I've tried out most of the tubes out there. Also, the 6GU7 is a lower gain tube which would help you a bit. Not many choices with the 27GB5/PL600. Mine are from the Matsushita factory and sound great... I think there were only 2 or 3 makes of this tube in any case. My amp has 6BQ7A/6BZ7 instead of the 12BQ6, and I use General Electric JAN tubes there. Haven't really tried anything else, but I'm happy with the sound.
  2. One of the biggest differences I've heard, as far as amps and sources are concerned, was in the pot or stepper. That's all I can really say as I don't understand the science of it.
  3. Is it enjoyable listening to fireworks? I've always gone to watch more than listen personally...

    Mass Effect

If you sign up for the Dell deals emails, the current spam they are sending is the '5 Days of Gaming Deals'. Mass Effect is $45 bucks Canadian. EDIT: Was. They already sold out. EDIT2: BOLDING
  5. Yeah, that is what usually does it for me too. Hmmm... Well, not sure if I've heard those notes before, or heard them properly, but I certainly enjoy that album on my rig. What sort of speaker setup would you need to properly play that sort of note? If it is 16Hz and Ryan's halving theory holds true, you'd need to get down to 4Hz to REALLY hear everything there.
  6. Welcome to the dark side, Aaron.
  7. Interesting, maybe I should pick up a tone generator to see how low they go on my setup. The documentation says they go to 20hz, of course. Thanks for the quick and dirty lesson Ryan, very informative. I think I understand what you are getting at, and though I can't be certain, I'd say that bass guitar sounds pretty accurate on my rig. Audible memory is a funny thing though, so who knows.
  8. "The i-boob is considered to be a major breakthrough because women are always complaining about men staring at their breasts and not listening to them." So funny.
  9. Care to give an example where a rolloff at 40hz will be audible/noticeable? I didn't say there was nothing below 40hz on music, I said not much... as in nothing that you'd miss. Maybe it is the type of music I listen to or we listen for different things, but I stand by that. Damn, I must have missed that music fundamentals course.
  10. Maybe through private sales, but through a company I think most people agree that paying duty is a given. There is nothing wrong with Canadian customs, there are things wrong with how UPS and FedEx deal with Canadian customs. This is why I always insist on USPS shipping, even if it does take a day or two longer. Even with duty fees, things are cheaper in the US, and with our dollar being basically even at the moment it is definately attractive for us to do our shopping there. I went to Grove City last weekend and got some killer deals.
  11. Though I am cheap, the main motivation was that stupid NewEgg doesn't ship to Canada.
  12. Nice, just got a clone off of eBay for 99 cents. [$11 shipping though, of course]
  13. What kind of tubes do you use in your mcalister amp?
  14. Though I think they do go below 40, there is not really much left below there anyways... at least not in music.
  15. Does he have to give you a discount now that you are a moderator?
  16. I think that the CyBook, the Sony eBook reader and the iRex all look quite nice. This Amazon one is the only ugly one of the bunch.
  17. He gives you $60 to ship the cable? Sounds like a pretty sweet deal to me.
  18. I think it is a mistake to buy one of these things and use it for internet browsing, it is meant to read books, and that is what it does well. I also think it is a mistake to buy something that looks like a bird crapped it out.
  19. But yeah, Nate, you need to do a bit of reading on E-Ink. It only uses power to refresh the screen, so they measure battery life in terms of page turns rather than hours. And most of these devices get 8000 page turns per charge. It is also just as easy to read as a piece of paper, if not easier. You can view the screen in pretty much any lighting that you could read a book in, and it is viewable from any angle.
  20. The wireless is nice, but its FUGLY. I'm hopefully getting the Bookeen CyBook from the wifey for christmas, which should fit my needs fine. I was tempted by the iRex, but it's just too damn expensive.
  21. It might have if I hadn't laid out my response with so much tact. I'm awesome.
  22. For him, yes, it sounds like he did.
  23. I can see how it would come across that way. It is not how I meant it. Wrote the post with a smile, not a grimace. I can understand that, and actually, with Jazz and Classical is when I really liked the flats. Was too much for Rock and Electronica though, and that is mainly what I listen to.
  24. That is what I was doing in that post. Sorry if it came across as some sort of dismissal. Mainly, I just don't want to argue about why I preferred bowl pads. I'm sure that I will spend more time with all variety of Grado pads when I actually get a set... and who knows, I might agree with you. Sorry, what amp? I wasn't just talking amp btw, many of the headphones themselves sound different. I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "cannot quote my rig". It is great that you had them modded by Larry, he does the K340 mods very well. Even modded though, they don't all sound identical. "Hallucinogen's In Dub"? Cant say I've heard it. All I am 'telling you' is that I am happy with the bass in my K340 setup. Clearly you aren't. This could either be personal preference or some variation in the sound of our two systems. Not sure why you took my comment so harshly.
