Thanks Renato, that's perfect.

What do you think of this? [ame=http://www.amazon.com/M-Audio-Groove-Music-Software-Headset/dp/B0002X8624]Amazon.com: M-Audio Groove Lab Music Software with MH1 Headset and Mic: Musical Instruments[/ame] I'd have to get it shipped to someone in the US, but that looks like a great deal for a rebadged transit, some possibly interesting software and a shitty pair of headphones w/mic that I could use should i ever need such a thing.

Ah, thanks for the explanation. \
-
I think it is great, but the battery life is holding me back right now...
-
Well, he's heard them in my rig. Not sure if that qualifies, since it's not really designed with Grados in mind. I agree though, keeping the SR100 and building a nice rig around them makes more sense for now.

If you end up selling the 0404USB, lemme know.

Since the digital EQ/Dac that I'm planning on useing this with has MIDI input and outputs, could I use something like this instead? I don't know much about MIDI connections, are they analog or digital? http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/UM3EXd/

You can upgrade the RAM on the surf though? Just more work? Have you looked into the 'internal thumb drive' hack that others have been talking about?
-
I've been watching this for a while... apparently they aren't skimping on the internal amp either and they expect it should be fine with high impedance headphones.
-
Tachikoma/henmyr - Thanks for the links. Those are so cheap that I almost have to try them.
-
Because, as far as I can tell it is either coax or AES/EBU, and I need toslink.
-
Forgot to mention that I will be using this with the Behringer DEQ2496 that I just bought... so I don't need any functionality that it already has. I plan on modding the DEQ with newer DACs [probably the same ones that are used in the transporter], a better PSU and a zapfilter output stage. Will be feeding it using AES/EBU from my Eastsound and with optical from whatever I buy as a computer interface. Should be fun.

I wouldn't use the balanced outs, but I believe you can hookup keyboards, guitars, and microphones directly to it... which could be cool if I ever get off my ass and buy and electric bass.
-
Or even the E-MU 0202 USB... http://kellysmusic.ca/productinfo~id~1164666560.htm So many choices. \ EDIT: Oops, looks like the 0202 doesn't have optical in/out. Need to move up to the 0404 to get that functionality.

The Edirol UA-4FX looks interesting as well, as does the M-Audio Audiophile USB, depending on what I can get them for after hunting around...
-
From airfoils site... "1. Due to delays inherent in the AirPort Express, Airfoil is not recommended for use in conjunction with video." So, that likely means it wont work well with games. It's looking like a USB to toslink adapter is the best way to go. Anyone know of any DIY designs? Right now it is looking like the Trends UD-10 and the M-Audio Transit are the only serious 'audiophile' contenders for a commercial solution.
-
Lemme know what you find ojnihs... if it is just with Quicktime, that isn't a deal breaker with me as I rarely use it. Mainly I just want the ability to play games and route the sound to my hi-fi rig.

For valentines day this year, we bought eachother a cat climber...

I can setup airport express to output all sound from my computer? System beeps, music, video, games, etc? If so, that sounds like a pretty slick/sick solution. You are SUCH an apple pimp grawk.
-
The Trends is only bit more and has an external PSU as well as a host of outputs... though I will likely only use Toslink anyways. It doesn't have its own drivers though. Hmmm...
-
Hi all, Looking at getting something like the Trends UD-10. Basically just want a quick and dirty USB-Toslink convertor. Looked at the Hagerman units and they only have coax or AES/EBU. Any suggestions would be welcome. If you know of a place to get the Trends cheap, that would be great as well. Thanks, Jay

I like those new WD Raptor X drives... if I were to build another fast computer and couldn't pony up the cash for a solid state drive, that is probably the way I would go for my system/game drive.
-
In my experience, the M3 is moar bettar.
-
Ok, we're on the same page in that case. I think that if I were to get a tiny laptop without an optical drive, I'd be looking at the EEE pc, but that is mainly because I'm a cheap bastard.
-
Todd - That's all well and good... it still doesn't have an optical drive. I don't care how 'wireless and free' you are, that is a problem. Mike - Yeah, it must be Time Machine. Whatever it is, it is pretty cool, but not enough to justify my dads unhealthy obsession with it. If you are plugging in peripherals, that sort of cuts down on the portability. How would wirelessly using another computers optical drive work? Christ, every time I try to submit my post there is a new message... Jay - Floppy disks are getting old, optical drives are here to stay for now. Flash sticks are all well and good, but sometimes you need to install new software or throw in a music CD.
