Maybe you should try the original Mullard either the Xf2 or 4. I was running the treasure tubes on mine and thought it was good but then I made a switch to the Original NOS Mullards and I'm not going back. The Psvane is trying its best to replicate the original Mullard EL34s from what I understand.
-
Can you be more specific on the problems Birgir? Had the treasure tube failed once on the BHSE and luckily everything is still fine. OTOH, turning my KGSSHV on right after the BHSE did blow the fuse on the BHSE though.

Happy Birthday as well! Hope you are available for some listening session soon.

128GB ++ is super nice. How about the sound? Whoa....co-developed by Ayre? -
The Silver one is reminiscent of the Sony SCD-1. Awesome looking chassis!

Nice stuffs Birgir. Can't wait to see the end product.

I bought the exact same adapter from Moon-audio and it has work out great. Kudo to Koss Corp for selling a very well built extension cable for $15.00.

Sony NW-ZX1: 35th Walkman Aniv. model with 128 GB on Board & 24/192 capable

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ltZpLglT2k Unboxing video....a really good one actually. Scroll to an 8:00 minute mark for hi-rez streaming ability via UPnP site. -
Sorry for the typo. USB OTG is the correct term. Regular HD won't work unless you have a battery powered one. I no longer have the DX50 any more but I love the extra storage via USB OTG function. You can always can get the AK240 if you want to feel very special. Personally, the AK240 is one overpriced item with a very poor resale value no matter how great is the SQ relatives to others DAPs. I still can't believe that folks are willing to invest over 4K on top end portable gears (AK240+highend CIEMs).
-
I had it in the past and really enjoyed my time with it. If you can get over some minor UI issues & screen sensitivity, it is a really nice sounding DAP at its price point. I recommend the DX50 over the X3 any day of the week. You can mount additional storage via USB OTB function as well.

Glad you are enjoying your JP. Let it burn in some as well. You need to check out its DLNA streaming ability. I have 500GB battery powered HD that work very well with my ZX1 streaming hi-rez materials. Beside the limited storage space at around 110GB, I think that Sony earns a solid A in term of design, features, and sound. BTW, I also have the AK100 and think that the UI on the Sony is much better. The AK's UI is still a tad buggy. It refuses to play some files that play just fine on my Sony. -

JP, Has your ZX1 landed? What you think of it? I love mine. -
Thanks for your impression Ed. Personally, I think the AK240 is overpriced no matter how great it actually sound. I wish the price tag will be around $1500 and not $2400. I've been pretty impressed with the Sony NW-ZX1 lately. Its UI is even more fluid than my new Nexus tablet. The sound is quite excellent with my JH13pro, but I'm sure that the HM-901 is better sounding especially with more difficult to drive phones. The ZX-1 has a built in DLNA app and I was able to stream hi-rez files from my wireless portable drives without a problem. It also work with my Pico DAC/AMP via USB digital connection. Several people from the other site did let go of their AK120s once they have audition the Sony against the AK120.
-
I think you will like your soon-to-get here ZX1. The AK100 isn't that great sound wise unless the 22 ohms resistor is bypassed. I didn't think much of the stock AK100 but really enjoy the modded AK100 (MS-AK100). The ZX-1 has noticeably better resolution compared to my MS-AK100. The width of soundstage is noticeably wider while the details are more there compared to the AK100. The bass notes are also thunderous. Like you I have the JH13pro and I thought that it mates very well with the ZX-1. I wish I have the 901 to check out but I'll stop with the ZX1.

You should try the iBasso DX50 as the UI is much more polish...though...a far cry from Sony NW-ZX1. It also sound more open than the X3 to boot. The DX50 is really good deal given its price tag of $250.00

Sony NW-ZX1: 35th Walkman Aniv. model with 128 GB on Board & 24/192 capable
purk replied to purk's topic in Portable Audio
Yes, it has but you will need to buy a proprietary USB output cable or adapter & an IC of your choice. They can be found cheaply through out the ebay. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.Xsony+LOD&_nkw=sony+LOD&_sacat=0&_from=R40 Doubt you will need an additional amp though, the internal amp is super impressive with CIEMs such as JH13pro. The ZX-1 also output digital out via USB. Sadly it doesn't work with every DAC out there. So far I got it to work with my Pico DAC/AMP & PS Digital Link III. -

My ZX-1 has landed and it is one impressive player. Very near Apple's fluidity in term of operation. Sound just as good as my Pico Amp/DAC combo if not slightly better. The sound has better resolution & definition than my modded AK100 player. The low level details & frequency extension are this player strong suite. The width of soundstage is superb. -
Have a great New Year everyone!

Sound like he is happily overpaid though. He probably thought pretty darn hard about placing his final bid. The 1.6 M yen came in 17 mins before the winning bid of 1.61 M yen.

Thanks to Andy & Stax Mafia, I am now a proud owner of the T2. Absolutely love the sound. The T2 + SR009 produce effortless magical sound that is second to none from my experience. BTW, found the original T2 earlier on YHJ. I didn't think it will get that high, but it did sell for over 1,600,000 yen (15.5K). Wow!! Notice the bidding war at around 800,000 yen then it jumped to 1,600,000. Even still, the winner went higher at 1,611,000 yen. http://page9.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/k172471947

Whoa....who will continue the Pioneer Kuro's legacy?

Guys, you should check out the iBasso DX50. I find it a tad more open & refined than the FiiO X3. Midbass is also less pronounced on the DX-50. It is also a more neutral of the two DAPs. The UI on the DX50 used to be a messed but it is sorted out now after numbers of firmware updates. The initial launch was horrible with way under finished UI. I had ton & ton of problems with it, but the current units are good and very stable. Overall it is a solid improvement over the X3 and the UI is more intuitive.

The AK120 is just overpriced IMO. Too expensive for almost $1300. Worst yet they are coming up with something even more expensive for the AK140. Some folks even modding the AK120 by bypassing heaphones out completely and upgrading the DAC from dual 8740 to 8741. Total cost is around $1600 for a DAP without a usable headphones out. This is done to maximize the lineout to feed a portable amp. Crazy isn't it?

Just bought Stax SR-009 (arrggg) but no amp
purk replied to Jon L's topic in Headphone Amplification
It can get way better with the SR009. Hope you can get your hand on the BHSE one day.
