Yup, I was eyeing his amp too but decided against it at the end. Geoff's builds are pretty awesome.

Sam, The difference are not night and day at all and the KGST is still an exceptional sounding amplifier for both the 007 MKI and 009. BTW, the 450V Sanyo & KGST are made from the same builder who is one of us so parts used should be similar.
-
If the Carbon is said to be near if not on the same level as the BHSE, then the difference should be enough to discern. Mulveling bought my KGST and he also like his full-sized KGSSHVs better (He has both the Sanyo & IXY versions). A full-sized KGSSHV just has better resolving ability compared to the KGST that I used to have.

I don't like the Oppo 105 as a DAC either but putting it up against your other two DACs should reaffirm whether it is a matter of volume matching or the Yggy & NWO are truly superior.
-
Thanks Andy. Can you borrow an Oppo DAC and do a three way shoot out? I may have get in line and get the Yggy then.
-
Well..it is quite a bit more risky here in the States.

Please report back when you get a chance to compare the two. My reason for modwright is that Dan work is quite amazing. My Modwright SCD-777ES still sound considerably better than my NAD M51 playing the same SACD materials. I know that Dan's Oppo should be couple of notches better than my 777ES by now.
-
I'm still spinning SACD hence the reason why I want to get the Modwright 105 as a source upgrade as it is a true universal player/DAC. However, the Yggy is pretty much on my radar as well given many positive impressions.

It is my pleasure to help out Tom! He is my audio mentor after all. The loaner HR setup is actually an Ultra Desktop Amp with Max DAC/Amp module so it does a really good job with the HD800. Also I borrowed the HD650 from Mulveling so the credit goes to him to.

Have a great birthday Birgir!! I can't thanks you enough when I'm listening to my KGSSHV!
-
I can't wait to audition the DSHA-2. My ECP-L2 is unbelievably great with the HD800.
-
I think his post is pretty valid & informative. I do think that they are slightly over priced as well.

Have a great birthday Justin. How about take a week off from amps building?
-
I was hoping that your plan has changed and you maybe able to make it.
-
Brent..can you make it? How about Fitz?

Have a great birthday, David!

A used Sony MDR-SA5000 is a fine choice. You may want to learn how to recable the stock with mogami or something to get the best sound out of this phones. Otherwise, get Sony MDR-1A or buy a used Sennheiser HD600 for $200 and spend the rest on a decent portable amp (best option).

Congrats to the Warriors!! But I do feel for Lebron for loosing another final. His jump shots continue to elude him down stretch. I don't recall he scoring more than 5 points the last 3 mins of the game.

The Z7 does work well out of the Pono especially with the balanced out jacks. SE not so much, but in balance mode ...the Pono is very very good. I would get the longer Kimber cable and rewire for 4-pin balanced. Then make an adapter to dual stereo mini(s) so you can use it with the Pono. For the same price, I would buy the longer cable, shorten it, and then reterminate. The reason I went with silver b/c I want to tighten up the bass, and add more clarity to the sound as well as bringing out more details.
-
No wrong or right here. If the Nuforce is relative lean and slightly bright sounding ...it can really play well into the Z7's characters. Yup, I sure wish I didn't trade the CD3000 for a Canon G3 camera several years back. I got luck out several months back and bought the CD3000 for around $500ish.
-
The ergonomics on them are outstanding. You should upgrade the stock to silver cable to improve its performance. Stock Sony wire is really thin and is holding the Z7 back a great deal. The Z7 bass is quite a bit stronger than both the R10 & CD3000 in a direct comparo. Its bass output (quantity) is even more pronounced than that of the HD650 and very similar in level to the Denon D5000 IMO. I'm glad that you like them in a stock form, but they do improve quite a great deal with a good cable swap as well as driving them via a good balanced amp. The Z7 does a soundstage really well for a closed phones...but then again the CD3000 can still better it.

Is the Carbon's bass a bit too much for the SR007 MKI given that you said it is more robust down there compared to the BHSE? Is it a better match to the SR009 or SR007? Thanks.
-
Sam...the thing is ...you are not really getting the most out of the SR007. The SR007 out of the KGST is very good but it won't rival the SR009 unless you amplifier it with a BHSE. I can't pick a favorite between SR009 or SR007 out of the BHSE.
-
I would get the SR009 now given its great great price. I am part of the HE1000 beta tester and I feel that the SR009 is a superior headphones as long as you have one of KG stats amp. Well...may be not the KGSS.

Very touching....RIP, Quest. I know your feeling exactly. I had a dove that I nursed her back to life after some kid attempt to shoot her down. I'm still holding on to her feather as well.
