Finally got the upgrade to go through after dinner. Wow this Big Sur redesign is massive. People are going to flip when everything looks different all of a sudden. First impression is I really like the new design language. Everything just looks cleaner to me. A lot of clutter has been hidden away.

I also had issues opening 3rd party apps. Apparently they try to connect to Apple servers to request permission, and the servers weren't responding. Fix was to disconnect from the internet, open all the apps I needed, they turn the internet back on. 🤷‍♂️

Update failed for me, and seemingly for almost everyone else trying to download it. Apparently Apple is having server issues. Tomorrow it is!

I just need MS Office and Dropbox, both of which have always been ready for day 1 updates. I'm not reliant on anything exotic.

I have made the requisite sacrifice to the ghost of Steven P. Jobs. Please, Steve, don't brink my work computer!

Some really big claims, yeah. Can't wait to see what reviewers think. Also, everything today was the 4+4 chip. Presumably they also have 6/8/more? core chips in development for the big laptop and for desktop.

It is hard to even think of someone so associated with their particular show or even their genre than Alex. Very sad to see him go. Jeopardy is/was always my favorite game show in no small part because of him.

I finished Horizon Zero Dawn over the weekend on PC. Very cool game! The story was surprisingly good and a really cool take on what would otherwise be a familiar post-apocalypse trope. I mentioned to a buddy that maybe the reason there are so few great Sci-fi tv series these days is the games industry has picked off so much of the good writing talent? Also, it is a credit to how good the story is and how fun hunting robot dinosaurs is that the bad parts of the game (side quests, in-game economy, boring open world activities) really don't distract from the high points. The game is also really stunning in true 4k on PC.

It always makes me happy that when George Lucas and Steven Spielberg had to cast Indiana Jones’ dad they went with James Bond. RIP, Mr. Connery!

I'm through three episodes but I decided to put it on pause for now and read the book.

I really enjoyed the first episode of The Queen's Gambit last night. I can't vouch for the rest of the show, but the first episode is off to a very promising start.

I'm a millennial and wasn't born until '85, but I also fell in love with them by going to live shows... only it was 15-20 years down the line.
