Might be a good time to invest in some current stax equipment...
-
It does look like the story is true. Hopefully quality will not suffer, but I think it is possible this could be a good thing. If this new company is much larger and financially stable they could support the stax guys to make crazy new products with much less financial risk. The story doesn't seem to mention anything about what happens to current employees though, hopefully they are all being kept on.

^^ I used cases from par-metal. They are the 16x12x4 model, obviously with custom panels from FPE

Anybody see this thread over at HF http://www.head-fi.org/t/584408/breaking-news-chinese-company-acquires-stax Is there any truth to this? I hope not...

That's the first thing I thought too. Hell, I think the transformer for the KGSSHV weighs about 8 lbs
-
They forgot them. I emailed them over the weekend but haven't heard anything back yet. I still don't know how I didn't notice that they were missing until sound wasn't coming from one channel
-
What you don't like silver? It matches my Beta 22/Alpha 10 stack. I have to do a bit more wire management and the leds backlighting the volume knob aren't quite the right shade of blue so I need to try some others. Oh and if khozmo ever gets me 2 caddocks to put in the missing spot I will put those in (right now I put in some vishay dale RN series). Next up: the T2

Well got mine up and running tonight! I would have had it working last week but I had some khozmo related misfortune. I take back any good thing I said about them - check out this picture of my attenuator and tell me what's wrong... Long story short when I was tracking down why I was only getting sound out of one channel I must have knocked something loose and I managed to fry both boards. I replaced all the semis in both channels other than the CCS which were still working correctly. Now it's back up and adjusted - got balance under a half volt on both channels but the left channel I couldn't get under 2V offset, which I figured wasn't a big deal. Here are some quick pics: I'm listening to it now on O2 mk1s and all I have to say is wow! Definitely a big step up from the SRD7

Not very cheap...

Yea I know what you mean. I get my case feet from performance-pcs and it's kind of a pain to just get 1 thing from them. I just checked lamptron's distributor page and most of the vendors are small pc modding type places but newegg and amazon are also both listed. Newegg only seems to carry their fan controllers, but amazon carries lamptron as well as some other brand called mod/smart. The lamptrons are not sold by amazon but the other ones are - see here: http://www.amazon.co...+switch&x=0&y=0 Edit: I guess those are all still US, but you can check other lamptron distributors here http://www.lamptron.com/wheretobuy/

Lamptron makes black anti vandal switches... you can get them at performance-pcs in the US but I'm sure they are available other places as well. Here's a link to the performance-pcs page: http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=60_374_375&zenid=f0c2bea51fd23006ae0e38804d7f745a

Inexpensive balanced amp and balanced dac.
cobra_kai replied to mrarroyo's topic in Headphone Amplification
I don't know if it is capable of driving headphones but at 250 on clearance I think you should check out the emotive xda1. I'm sure somebody has tried to use it with headphones -
Do you have a schematic view you could post? I like the approach, comparators instead of Ti's summing amp. I see you used the same 1.6 Hz lowpass filter - I found this a little too sensitive on the epsilon12 and was getting a lot of false cutouts so I ended up lowering the cutoff to about .7 Hz and the gain on the summing amplifier from 10 to 5, which should make it cutout when it sees about 140 mV of DC offset. I'm not sure which did the trick as I did them at the same time.
-
Hmm I guess the attenuator board uses 12V relays anyway so if you use that a 12V power supply is necessary anyway
-
Are there any comparable 5V relays? Seems like it would be better to have only 1 digital power supply and then the +/- 15 analog supply This seems to be the same thing with a 5V coil, no? http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?WT.z_header=search_go&lang=en&site=us&keywords=DS2E-SL2-DC5V&x=0&y=0

^^ Its the lowest price ever from amazon according to camelcamelcamel. Pretty sure I have seen it at that price before though, but I don't know about any lower. If you want an xbox I would say go for it
-
Yea the rk50 is up to 700 these days... There is also khozmo - a bit more expensive than a DACT at 289 (259 for smd version) but 48 steps instead of 24
-
That must be a joke... Somewhat on topic I picked up the 600s this time last year from Amazon for I believe 265
-
I think FPE will be more even for just the panels. If you have a silver case I think the shiny edges look cool. I can see it being undesirable if you have a black case though.
-
Looks great! Really looking forward to powering mine up, if only my PEEK screws would show up... I got a khozmo as well and I checked every position on all four channels with my DMM and they all looked good.
-
That was a good read thanks for the link
-
Congrats on the successful power up!
-
This problem is not present on the on board heatsink version? I'm guessing not since joamat was able to get it up and running.
-
To my eyes, the schematic matches both the on-board and off-board layouts. I am certainly not as familiar with the circuit as some here so I might be missing something but I don't see anything wrong with the IXYS ccs.
-
What doesn't match? From I can see drain is tied to V+, gate is tied to the 1k resistor and source is tied to the 1.2 k resistor, both of which are then tied to the collector of the sc4686, which is what the schematic shows.
