  1. Hmm... I'm also wondering if I have to or if it's possible to isolate the ground. I must connect D+ D- and GND to the PC for the device to be recognized.
  2. That's a cool looking little device. I shall read through that. I knew the dragonfly was noisy. I only paid $50 bucks for it and was looking to use it only for travel. It works fine for me in a pinch but of course I feel like tinkering with it a bit. gonna get some $1.00 cables from monoprice and see what happens
  3. I want to see if cutting the power from the PC reduces the noise Indeed, that's what I'm after. Specifically I want to see if cutting the PC power and replacing it with a better supply will lower the noise coming from the dragonfly. I intend to get one of those ifi isolator/re-clocker boxes but before dropping the $200 I wanted see see if I could do something with what I had laying around in regards to the power side of it.
  4. I want to experiment with making some data only USB cables. Looking at the specs of the bulk USB cable by lcomm it shows 28awg twisted for the data lines. Is it ok to use stranded?
  5. Didn't combine the ONT and router. It's still using the original setup. The user interface has some cool features but the flow is a bit off. My first gripe is I have to take 3 steps to get to a channel guide. Of course I can just speak into the remote and it will find the channel ala fire TV. The picture quality seems just as good as the Tivo but the image seems zoomed in for live TV. On demand seems ok. on another note, the installers were very interested in my workbench full of HC projects
  6. Yep Yep.... Guy should be here in 15 minutes to hook it up. Not sure what it's gonna be but I'm psyched. Supposedly the combine the quantum gateway with the ONT
  7. Been there done that... Had a stopped up sink turn into $5K worth of a new vent stack from basement to roof and a second floor bathroom re-plumb. It's awesome now though. Showers don't turn into baths etc etc
  8. Thanks... Gonna populate the boards and mount the heatsink angle brackets this weekend. I've got to get going on these projects. They not gonna build themselves
  9. I did this yesterday...
  10. Got mine too a few days ago. They're awesome
  11. The look pretty. I'd be interested in them too. I'll keep my eye on that company
  12. Listening to the 50th anniversary release of Sgt. Pepper's. Giles Martin did a really really nice job. It's a joy to listen to. I didn't pony up for the version that included the 96/24 tracks but I may after listening to the 44.1/16
  13. Best snake I ever had as a pet came from Texas. I snuck it home to NJ on a plane in my dad's sock whilst in the back of his shirt. He promptly rushed to the lav with my back pack once we were on the plane. Needless to say this was in the early eighties. Still I laugh everytime I think about it
  14. Godspeed Adam
  15. good to hear... I just got the isolator board so now I just have to find time to put it all together. On another note I'm listening to the Dragonfly balack right now and Iike what I'm hearing. This will definitely work for a portable rig
  16. yep, but haven't been on there in a while. I did run across some threads on there. I'll figure it out eventually. Of course now I have to get the 110 gal back up and running. I wonder if there's any reef keepers on here?
  17. I kept those for many years, they were my first tropical fish. Used to love waking up to find half the gravel moved to one side of the tank
  18. dang it... now I gotta look it up
  19. Thanks for "sex"ing it for me. Took me a while to find out the sex of my filefish. How do you tell on the boxfish?
  20. added this guy to our reef today
  21. Thanks, it's definitely in the upper end of what I would spend. Certainly wouldn't take it on the road. But I'm liking it
  22. I like the look of that, but might be better suited for home use. Looks like I'd have to get it from a German distributor. Any idea on what it costs?
  23. I'd rather spend the money on this http://ifi-audio.com/portfolio-view/nano-iusb3-0/ Seems more logical to me
