Nenso, if you are into that sort of genre, give Kevin Moore a try, I'm sure you'll like it! He released many things under Chroma Key, the best albums IMO being You Go Now and Dead Air for Radios. And then there are those soundtracks which he released as just Kevin Moore, I think - such as Shine, an amazing piece of work. I really like The Count of Tuscany as well! Maybe it's one of my favourites. I don't get to listen to it much (as anything else from them), but it's an incredible song nevertheless!

I used to love DT (I even have that official biography with my name on it), but I'm growing tired of heavy music... it's not that I don't like it, it's just that I can't listen to it for longer than 30 minutes, save for few exceptions. I still enjoy some DT whenever I listen to it, but I pretty much don't listen to it anymore. Still, they have some great stuff. I find their side projects really interesting though, as they seem to show that they can have a lot of feeling when they want to. LTE, OSI and Transatlantic are some examples. There's another one with John Petrucci which sucks a lot, until he plays a 5 min improvised solo, it's jaw-dropping incredible. Not to mention Kevin Moore, the guy's amazing. He's gone off to some electronic/ambient/chill-out stuff, and some Thai movie soundtracks. An example:

New Wyred 4 Sound goodies at RMAF

Oh, thanks Eric! I knew this website, but it's one of those you know about but never remember to check. Thanks, I've already found some good stuff! -

I have always been curious about their DACs due to the ads they post on Audiogon. I know it's just advertisement, but it made me interested, especially because of the moderate hype it has at the other place. But then I found that they have a seriously powerful amplifier, that churns out 1kW or something, for a very reasonable price (class D, obviously). And well, I'm sort of looking for some amp options for my speakers, which are currently being underpowered by a Marantz PM-11S2. Does anyone have any experience with those? -
Animals as Leaders - Weightless Not sure if you guys know this band, but it's really great. In fact, it's one of the few heavy artists I still regularly listen to. This new album, Weightless, just leaked and it's fantastic! To those who may want to know what it's about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R098zbkoPxE

Holy Crap! The New Stax Omega Looks fierce! (Stax SR-009)

I know this is a bit off topic, but I feel like ranting a bit about this, if I may: just so you guys know what we Brazilians go through... our import taxes are 60% over the declared price PLUS shipping (for no reason). And, if the item is sent by FedEx, other taxes apply, such as ICMS, and the result is around 100% in taxes. Prices in this country are a shameless joke. -
Fantastic Grado lesson I'm having here! I never cared that much for Grados, but it's great to learn so much about the company and its products. Couldn't agree more. When I travel to England I always buy What Hi Fi, The Absolute Sound and all the other magazines, and I'm happy when they have headphone reviews. But that doesn't last long because I always see absurd comments. I remember they spoke about the Sennheiser IE8 as being "textbook flat". WTF??? That thing has more bass than anything! You know, I always had the feeling that headphones have a sound signature that's much easier to realize than speakers. To me, speakers tend to sound more like each other. But then as I started to read all those weird headphone reviews I started to suspect that maybe we are tuned to what we hear the most. I mean, maybe I'm more sensitive to a headphone's sound signature because I had many experiences with them, and the opposite for speakers. If that's the case, then it should be the same for them: they're more used to speakers and thus more in touch with their different sound signatures, and less sensitive to different sounding headphones. Or not.
-
Oh, I see! I also only had one experience with them and well... didn't like them at all! I can't even remember other aspects of their sound because of the forwardness. I only used flats, but now that you've mentioned, maybe I could have put the GS1000is bowls on them and see what happened. That could be worth a try!
-
Do you mean that Head-F1 thing? Well, I'm just asking out of curiosity, since I just couldn't stand how bloody forward it was... sounded like the Loudness War left the mastering studios and reached the listening devices. It would be nice to understand its appeal to whoever likes it
-
What's you guys' opinion on the HF2? I thought it was an extreme case of forward sound. I liked the GS1000i and SR325i, though!

There are, but they tend to be a bit expensive! Here the options I know of: http://www.null-audio.com/store/ http://www.custom-iem.com/cables-c-123.html?zenid=0be723f753a780b4947d2e158ddc8d90

Rob, I just found out that she was 15 when she recorded that album, can you believe that? Surprisingly, given that she's an elegant singer in an elegant jazz album, I also found out that she's now 22 and was careless enough to let some rather interesting pictures of her get on the internet.

A Top Gear thread!!! How on earth hadn't I ever seen this before? I know I'm not, but I feel at home now. By far my favourite show. How do you guys like this last season? I hated the previous one, but this was great. As it has been already said clearly not as good as some older ones and lacking in classics, but still good nonetheless (or nevertheless? Sorry for the English failure here).
-
I'm sure you'll like it!! I'm amazed by her, but to me, the title of most seductive singer still goes, by far, for Rachel Lloyd. Have a listen:

I think I'm gonna ask her to marry me. Do you guys know her?

Holy Crap! The New Stax Omega Looks fierce! (Stax SR-009)
Leonardo Drummond replied to Jon L's topic in Headphones
You know, a friend of mine told me he recently met an audiophile who bought a new system. He got some B&W 800Ds, Krell Evo 600s, AR REF-5 and a Meridian 808.3. Wires? Siltech Royal Signature Emperor II speaker cables, Siltech Royal Signature Empress interconnects and Transparent MM power cables. So he decided to spend 26K (at least, that's the price for 2m) on his speaker cables alone and 24K on the speakers themselves. He said that he thinks the cables are almost more important than the speakers. That's very nice. In fact, I think I'm going to buy those Emperor IIs to rewire my PortaPros. They'll be just like an R10. (on a side note... I don't want to sound jealous, of course I'd love to own his set, and I'm actually happy he could make this dream system come true, but come-on... that doesn't detract me from the fact that this is easily the most insane misalocation of resources I've ever seen in audio) -
That's something even I know! And I know next to nothing about the technicalities of audio! Well, he did build himself a pair of speakers so I reckon he does have DIY skills of some sort, although I don't know about more elaborate electronics, which I think is the case with an energizer. Well, I'll check it out with him anyways, but even if he happens to have no clue about the issue I'm sure I'll be fine since I dont regularly listen to loud music. Thanks again, Birgir!
-
That's better then! Thanks, Birgir. I usually don't listen to music very loud, so I suppose that won't be much of a problem. By the way, is that something an electronic engineer would know how to do easily?
-
Oh dear... that doesn't sound easy.
-
Thanks again, Padam! Fortunately as I buy a lot of equipment from the UK, I have 220V and 110V sockets in my bedroom, so either a US or a japanese unit will be fine! Now I just have to go find a used 727A.
-
Thanks for the help, Padam (not the first time you helped me, eh?)! It's quite hard to find the mod instructions, do you know where I can find it? I've got no DIY skills yet so I'd ask a friend of mine who's an engineer to do the mod for me, but because of that, it would be great to have all the information and all the detailed steps needed to do it!
-
Guys, I'm not sure whether I should post this in here or in the amp section, but as I don't want to open a new thread for this, here it goes: Which one do you think would be best for an O2 MKI, a modded 727A or a 323S? Will they be a significant upgrade over my SS eXStatA?

I sort of want a pair of good closed phones
Leonardo Drummond replied to The Monkey's topic in Headphones
Pars, that's quite interesting. I thought the SRH840s were probably among the most neutral headphones I've ever listened to, but then again I had little time with it. Also nice to finally read something about those AKGs; it's quite hard to actually find anything about those pro models! By the way, I just got some B&W P5s and, although they are very coloured, I think they're a great pair of closed portable headphones. Somehow they sound really analogue... it's great! -
Rio de Janeiro mini meet 09/06
Leonardo Drummond replied to Leonardo Drummond's topic in Meet Impressions
Thanks guys!! I'm really glad you liked it! We sure had a good time, it was fantastic to gather all those amazing equipments in one place and, most of all, to listen to the Orpheus. And Mario, you have a fantastic new avatar hahahaha! I think it's only logical to have it after hearing such a thing!
