Is there anything to this hi-rez stuff?
Leonardo Drummond replied to TMoney's topic in Home Source Components
An acquaintance of mine recently wrote a really interesting article stating that's objectively impossible to distinguish bewteen redbook and high resolution formats. I have no grounds to judge his work so I'll just say it's an interesting read. He does say that frequently what happens is that, as in the Nevermind case, different mixes are released, so telling them apart is pretty easy. Still, interested to know you guys' opinions on this. -
Hahahaha now that's a good interpretation
-
Yes! I love when a company like that shows a sense of humour, it's quite refreshing! It seems a great value. The only all balanced amp I know of at a similar pricepoint is the Little Dot MKVI, which I used to own. I thought it was ok, but nothing special. The Meier Eartube trounces it on most regards! I'm quite optimistic about this and the Mjolnir. What's with the names, though?

Did anyone see this? https://schiit.com/cart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=0&products_id=11 Sounds promising. They seem to have been building pretty good products in the 200-400 price range and it's nice to see them getting more ambitious. Specs alone look quite good!

Mini-Meet - Palos Verdes - 3/31/2012

Nice! A great addition to what's already apparently one of the nicest sets out there. By the way, that T2 looks absolutely gorgeous... in really bad-ass way. -

Incredible meet! Looks like you guys had a great time. BTW, Milos, is that your Aristaeus?? -
Oh, thanks Tari!
-
Purrin, what were these sources?
-
Big thanks for the opinions, everyone! BTW Larry, I've seen what happened to your BH, good luck with fixing that beast!!
-
That was actually among my first options, Birgir. Particularly convenient given Justin's upcoming BHSE batch! There's something to think about... by the way, do you think the BHSE is worth the extra over a well built KGSSHV?
-
Maybe not that curious then! I've decided to go for the 009 instead of the R10 and thought having someone build a KGSSHV for me would be the best option, but your statement made me think twice about this, because, as I said before, I'm sort of treble sensitive. Something like the HE90 with the Aristaeus is at the very limit of my liking in that sense.
-
Oh, ok! Thanks anyway! You must be curious about them
-
Birgir, any impressions with the 009s? Judging by what you said, sounds like it could be too revealing/bright, no?
-
Caetano Veloso! Didn't really expect to see him here
-
Recessed mids in a K1000? Maybe he's using it fully opened... I do agree with the unclear treble though, but in my case precisely because of the forward mids that I hear.
-
Nice!! I've always liked the profile of this car. Looks very elegant.

Yup, here in Brazil we don't have any 5 cylinder VWs left, because the MKV Jetta was the only one here with that engine (our Golf is still the MKIV) and it's been replaced by the new one, which is either a normally aspirated 2.0 (with 115 three-legged-ponys-power) or the 200 hp 2.0 turbo - which goes like stink but sounds like it's really struggling. Which Acura did you have? I know how this feels, my Jetta is a lot slower than my father's Hyundai Grandeur but the noise is just so much better! And the fact that the Jetta has a much more firm and harder feel to it makes up for a more satisfying driving experience.
-
Not sure what to make of this "review", but I hate this: "The overall sound quality is perfect! Clear treble, vivid midrange, and powerful bass!" Can't they be even more general? It's like when those magazines who know nothing about audio decide to write about headphones. You end up reading that good cans are "potent". What does that even mean? Drives me nuts...

That was a truly fantastic series! By the way, to those who don't know, Bentley announced they're going to change that SUV's looks thoroughly before making it. It appears that most people didn't like it at all... hardly surprising. And that new M5 looks fantastic, but it's a pity it doesn't have that fantastic V10 bellow anymore. I love 10 and 5 cylinder engine noises, they have a really unique sound. A month ago I got myself a 2.5 Jetta, mostly because of the engine note
-
No love for the B&W P5? Quite far from neutral, but it sounds warm and analog somehow, I really like it. Not sure if it's what you're looking for, but perhaps worth a try! It's a great portable.
-
Same here! It puts some kind of pressure in my ears, and I even thought about having a refit when I got them, but the fact that I live in Brazil makes it extremely troublesome... so I didn't bother. They are my go-to phones though, since to me there's nothing that they don't do extraordinarily well! There's a good point! In fact that's exactly what that friend that has them said: when you're in a rock concert, that's what you want, to be in the front row. But even then, I'd rather have a weighty sound, like the JH13's, than a forward one. And, to me, they're mutually exclusive. But that's my own interpretation, I certainly understand the appeal of Grados!

I just got a HD600 in a trade, and I really like it. Now I know what all the fuss was about. It's such a calm and relaxed presentation... the HF-2 on the other hand sounds incredibly forward to me, not my cup of tea at all! Recently I also had the chance the audition the LCD2s, and being the only ortho I've ever listened to, I can't comment on them being a passing fad. But then I didn't find anything I hadn't heard before in dynamics or electrostatics either. In fact, its sound was remarkably similar to the JH13's. Only it needs amplification and feels like it's made of pure lead. I'd keep my JH13 over it anyday... but to each his own, I guess.

You just made my day... I love Anathema, and didn't know they were going to release a new album!!! The track sounds fantastic, by the way. Another band I really like that's releasing a new album soon is OSI. To those who don't know, it's by Kevin Moore (ex-keyboardist at DT, but he's gone into some electronica and ambient albums after leaving DT - and did fantastically well at it), Jim Matheos and Gavin Harrison (unbelievable drummer for Porcupine Tree): EDIT: Anneke's album sounds great as well. Doesn't sound anything like what I'd expect though, knowing her from Ayreon. EDIT 2 (sorry): SH*T. That's incredible:

Didn't you know? Platinum has an electromagnetic wave radiation that directly interferes with the power-cables burn-in. It makes them immediately sound like they've run for 3.28 million hours, a sweet spot in burn-in time. That's why it's more expensive. I've never seen him on HF, but he seems to be well known in the community. I think that's because of the website, though.
