  1. I'll trade you a chop for kimchi fried rice.
  2. Happy Birthday Todd! Have a great day.
  3. Final product.
  4. Potatoes in butter and olive oil with fresh rosemary. They will be joined by a couple of boneless pork chops seasoned with Butt Rub.
  5. Gene, you just made Debbie's eyes light up.
  6. All of the above. Fernando continues to impress. And Ferrari had better have Ricciardo on their map for the future. If they can build a car that suits his talent. They have not done so well as far as Fernando is concerned. Louis was awesome, especially considering a spin that could have easily broken his spirit. And I thought refusing team orders was 100% the right thing to do. Hell, Rosberg wasn't even pressuring him. If he was dogging Louis for several laps then I might have said OK, but dammit, this is a championship they are fighting for. Louis earned his position, it was up to Rosberg to take it from him. Great racing, and also great demonstrations of how safe these current F1 cars are. Bravo to that.
  7. Fresh cherries were available in Michigan, so I just pitted a pound and put them up for cocktail cherries. I will use these almost exclusively in Manhattans, so they are soaking in a simple syrup made with water and Turbinado sugar, to which was added 3/4 cup of Rittenhouse 100 rye and 1/4 cup Antica Carpano sweet vermouth. They are now cooling on the stove and will be jarred and refrigerated for sampling tomorrow night.
  8. Happy Birthday to my fellow F1 and Alonso fan. Have an awesome day Antonio!
  9. After an excellent starter for me of pork, sage and paprika soup and for Debbie an asparagus soup, we settled on this for lunch - duck livers and pickled green beans on the left and escargot on the right. All from Brewery Vivant. FYI. Escargot inspiration came from Alden. We'd never had it, and he had mentioned it this weekend. It was awesome.
  10. I've also been enjoying the season, but that comes with a caveat. The bits I've been enjoying have been the fights for 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc. At the front? Not a lot going on there. It seems every time the FIA decide to improve the show, it just gets worse at the front. Even Alonso has said, yes, it was a great race, but not when you consider I'm fighting a Red Bull for 4th... I still say let them have any technology they want but eliminate all sophisticated aero. Let them have mechanical grip only and it will self-limit horsepower, and it will prove who the real drivers are. My 2 cents.
  11. I'm liking it. I ordered the 22mm pancake lens and have been messing about with both lenses. So far I've been pretty happy with my purchase. Thanks for the heads up.
  12. Had a guy in to repair one of our new recliners tonight. This has been an ongoing saga since we bought new livingroom furniture back in early 2014. I won't go through all of the details but it's been a big pain in the ass since we received the furniture. The culprits were Laz-E-Boy recliners (and the store we bought from, Art Van - part of that long story). We bought them because of their reputation but Jesus, these were bad. Tonight's repair was due to a collapsed arm on one of the chairs, The padding and support just collapsed. They sent a guy last Tuesday to look at it. He opened up the bottom of the arm, pushed up the support and sealed it back up. 30 minutes after he left it collapsed again. Tonight they sent a competent technician. He removed all of the upholstery on that arm, removed all the padding, rebuilt and fastened the support, replaced the padding and fabric and basically rebuilt the right side of the chair. It took him about 90 minutes and he let us know what he was doing and why through the whole process. #1 - it's good to see people who love their work and do it well. #2 - why is this shit so common in bigger ticket items these days? Our previous sofa and love seat self destructed in 4 years. They were not cheap, and we are not hard on furniture. Regardless, we think we are good now. We'll see as time goes by.
  13. Fauna - Avifauna
  14. As in the bike thread, I am just a really huge amateur at this but here is a shot from the new Canon EOS M. One more.
  15. I need to watch Frankenheimer's "Grand Prix" again very soon. RIP James Garner.
  16. Finished NY strip, with green beans. May be the best steak I've ever cooked.
  17. 2.5 lbs of New York strip getting prepped for a 4 hour sous vide bath.
  18. RIP Johnny Winter
  19. Habanero and pepper jack bratwursts. Almost too spicy. Almost.
  20. Thanks. I've been wanting something better than my phone or my pocket Panny Lumix. This should fit the bill.
  21. Sitting on the deck enjoying 75F temps, a nice breeze and Debbie's awesome flowers. Tis a good day.
  22. As we have found, cat names can change as personality dictates. Oh, and because cats don't give a fuck. Hi Skye, and good work Dusty!
  23. Pizza from scratch on the Weber tonight. Toppings were pepperoni, roasted tomatoes and artichoke hearts. Our first attempt, and needs work. But we loved the crust.
  24. Happy Birthday to the Baker Boys!!
