  1. Continued work on a landscaping project that I need to finish before I can move out.
  2. Ah, so you're wiping your ass with the Constitution too huh?
  3. Start where a lot of us did who grew up with him - Ziggy Stardust. Follow it with Hunky Dory to get an idea of how he got to Ziggy. Then Man Who Sold The World would be my next step. After that Alladin Sane. You then have the early to mid 70's covered. After that, choose a persona. Soul man? Station to Station or Fame. Electronic German Expressionism? Low & Heroes. And don't forget The Idiot & Lust For Life by Iggy Pop. They owe as much to Bowie (who played on them and even toured with Iggy) as Iggy himself.
  4. Sorry to hear that. Hope things work out for you.
  5. Very early Elvis. Not the Drug addled dying on the toilet one, the other one. Big glasses. Who else was on that label?
  6. A beautiful brindle girl!! Congrats Ian. But I have to warn you, brindle girls are evil. You'll find out. But you'll love her even more for it.
  7. I'd be interested but I don't have the 13,653 hours required to burn them in...
  8. Thanks Tom, I will look into the Parasounds. And Saturday Audio is in my area so that's even better. I knew of them but forgot. Thanks. Keep the suggestions coming.
  9. Well, since my living situation will be changing soon, I thought now might be a good time to start contemplating a speaker rig. I'm not sure of the living arrangement yet, but anticipate a typical 2 bedroom apartment for at least a year. My intention would be to use the Opus 21 as source, and the Zana can serve as a preamp. I know very little about speakers/amplification, so given a modest budget of $1000 for speakers/amp, what would you all suggest I look into?
  10. Turkey & artichoke sandwich from Panera.
  11. Ah, excellent! Nuthin' like a fine ass-whoopin' on a Saturday night!!
  12. I just received my 340's yesterday and wore them for probably 3 hours last night with zero comfort issues. Oh, they're not perfect in that respect, it takes some messing about to get them placed right on my noggin, but no problem once that was done.
  13. Played "Sweat your ass off at work because a tornado last weekend screwed up power delivery and today our air conditioning went down and we did several rounds of shut a bunch of servers down no bring them back up no shut them down for real and no we won't let you go home even if the third floor is 110 degrees F and stop whining and bring the servers back up". One of my favorite games for sure.
  14. Yeah, trust me to expect something from HF to just work without a bullshit twist... So here it is from my host:
  15. That dress plate looks familiar. Not sure how many others beside me got one on earlier runs but I really like it's look.
  16. I can't speak for vinyl, but I know I didn't realize how good the Zana was until I started feeding it with the Opus 21 CDP. Congrats on your order - you will be getting a wonderful amp.
  17. A lightning storm.
  18. Welcome to the Darth Beyer former owners and overwhelming out of proportion bass club. I did the same thing - read all the hype, saw the pictures, blah blah blah. And tried to listen to them. Nope. They sure did look good, but the sound was atrocious. So sold they were. So I guess it ends up as don't believe half of what you see and none of what you read. Oh, and if you posted this at HF you'd be burned on a wenge stake.
  19. Local Hero -one of my favorite films.
  20. Congratulations to your Granddad! My mom is 88 and still doing pretty well, and we've been doing little things for her like planting flowers and today a tomato and pepper plant. It really brings her joy and that makes me feel good too. Glad you could give a great party for him.
  21. Pico de gallo and Tostitos Scoops.
  22. That was my Zana at the Chicago meet and I was equally impressed with the K340's. So much so that like Ryan, I'm in pursuit of a stock pair to send to Larry. The pair in question were morphsci's and they did sound awesome. And as for power needed, I was surprised. Using RS-1's on the Zana I rarely turn the volume past about 9 - 10 o'clock, with Senn's 10 - 11. The K340's were usually above 12-1 o'clock to get them to a decent listening level. The bass was very good, but what I was impressed with was the overall balance and clean midrange on Jim's pair. They really hit the sweet spot of how I like my music.
