  1. Happy Birthday!!
  2. Happy Birthday Beely!!! :jbl:
  3. I'm in. I have Wham! and Black Oak Arkansas LP's just itching to go to someone!
  4. Thank you for your service.
  5. I just finished reading the Agon steam cleaning thread and thought I might try that. A HeadCase search had jp# recommending it. jp, do you still use this method?
  6. Roxy Music - Stranded Moody Blues - On the Threshold of a Dream My first new vinyl. A trip to Reckless Records this Saturday should dent the wallet.
  7. And the old Dual + Ortofon I bought was in that neighborhood as well. Of course I owned the NAD pre with phono already so that would up the total.
  8. I'm very happy so far. Sounds much better than I expected for a "budget" table and looks good to boot.
  9. As posted in the "Last thing you bought" thread, I picked up a Dual 505-2 today from Staurday Audio in Chicago. I wanted to start out on a budget, but wanted some confidence in what I was buying. This TT looked very clean and they had given it a very good going over. Warranteed for 90 days. They recommended an Ortofon 2M cart, either the Red or Blue. Staying in line with the budget I went with the Red. While setting it up they noticed an issue with a bad connection in one of the wires and fixed it while we went for lunch. Got it home and set it up. I have a very few old LP's and I bought two in good shape at Saturday - Aqualung and Sticky Fingers. Started listening and Jesus, I'm hooked. The turntable sounds very good, and the dynamic range in the albums just kept me grinning all afternoon and evening. I did some comparisons between the Aqualung LP and the 25th Anniversary CD I have and it is not even close. And my CDP is no slouch. I know now that this will be a first step and that better turntables will be in my future. But it sure feels good to handle LP's again and delight in the sound this format provides. I just really can't stop grinning. The new toy:
  10. Finally took a dip in the vinyl pool: Dual 505-2 with an Ortofon 2M Red cart. Got it from Saturday Audio in Chicago. It's in beautiful shape, fully inspected and refurbished. I'm a very happy person!
  11. Glad to hear you're OK Doug but at least in the fine tradition of Sir Jackie Stewart it sounds like it was a spectacular shunt!!
  12. I want a turntable. I don't need a turntable. I am looking to buy a (budget) turntable. I also have a NAD pre with phono in... shame to have it sitting there unused...
  13. May Her Royal Highness celebrate the most exquisite of Birthdays!
  14. I used one here in the US with a 230v CDP that I had (MF xRay v3) and it did not appear to have any impact. Your mileage may vary though when it comes to an amp as I suspect it may be much more sensitive to "dirty" power delivery. I'm sure others with more knowledge will comment.
  15. Spent an excellent evening last night with our own EdipisReks. The Thiels sounded great, the whiskey was smooth, the beer delicious and the conversation insightful. Thanks Jacob. Of course the shovel blow to the head at the end was a surprise but I was protected by the alcohol and avoided the cellar.
  16. Today while driving in Indiana, I crossed a bridge that had a sign saying "Nameless Creek". Now, did it really have no name, or did someone name it "Nameless"?
  17. Drove to just outside of Columbus Ohio. Tomorrow I'll do a run down Ohio 555, a nice stretch of twisty road. Tuesday I hope to connect with our very own Reksy to share some local beer and conversation.
  18. Happy Birthday!!
  19. No luck. We lost. Though the judges didn't give us the nod, we had a large amount of the public come back for seconds and tell us ours was the best, so we felt pretty good. And the whole thing was for charity. People buy bowls for $5 and sample all the chilis. There were 14 cookers this year and it was a good time.
  20. Competing in a chili cookoff. About 90 minutes till judging.
  21. Happy Birthday BA Boy!! Enjoy the day!
  22. Jim Carroll, poet and punk, passed away Friday at the age of 60. Probably most famous for "The Basketball Diaries", I'll remember him for the "Catholic Boy" album - a sweet taste of late 70's NYC punk. "They were all my friends, and they died." NYT Obit
  23. I hate when that happens. Watched the F1 race, mowed the ex's lawn, visited mom, cleaned and re-oiled an air filter, ate real mac & cheese and now sitting in Three Floyds drinking beer.
  24. Genesis - "The Cinema Show"
