  1. BTW, for the DIY Table, I don't think it's feasible to finish an entire PIMETA in one day at the meet. Especially since I don't want to be the only one doing all the soldering. Unless others want to chip in with soldering and assembly, it can be a "cooking show" style session or maybe just a practice session where we trash a PIMETA board. i.e. Everyone gets a chance to solder stuff without regards to whether or not the stuff survives. Any thoughts? -Ed
  2. You'll spend less time playing games on the PS3 vs. other systems, so it will save you time and money.
  3. For those that are interested in a DIY table and participating, please list also what DIY gear and supplies you can bring. Here's what I have equipment wise so far: Metcal SP200 Soldering Station Metcal SP440 Desoldering Station Keithley 2000 Multimeter (kind of overkill and pretty large, handy really if someone really wants to use kelvin leads and match resistors) Fluke 110 portable DMM Helping Hands (free standing and table clamped versions) Flush cutters Ideal Custom Stripmaster (sizes 16-26awg) Erem flush cutters Dewalt 14.4V 1/2" Battery powered drill Various drill bits including stepped drill bits Various screwdrivers. I'd like to avoid bringing all of it, so if others have some that duplicate what I have, that would be great if they could bring it as well. And of course, any Vendor or Member that is having amp or other equipment malfunctions at the meet is more than welcome to borrow my stuff to help fix their stuff. Parts: PIMETA PCB (I might have two, I know I have at least one) Various Resistors (not sure if I have a full matched set) Various Capacitors (electrolytic and others) Will have to look at my supply and see what else I have available, including if I still have a Hammond case still available. I might just part out an old PIMETA of mine and leave the inputs and outputs, so that all that is needed is to put in a finished PCB. Case work eats up quite a bit of time, so I'm not sure there would be enough time to do both PCB stuffing and case work during the meet. -Ed

    Left 4 Dead

I'd always wanted an online co-op first person shooter zombie survival game. And it's coming out. It's looking really awesome. There are some new footage from PAX up on Gametrailers.com -Ed

    DEATH TANK!

Here's an old video of a 7 Player Death Tank Zwei fest at my place. Best part is the failed escape attempt by my friend.
  6. I've successfully extended my Pico by over 50 feet using a Cat5 USB extender. It didn't work unless I used a Cat5e rated cable though, I guess the signal degrades too much otherwise. Cat5 USB extenders work quite far, most can go up to 100-150 feet without amplification, but I'm not sure if it would work with the Pico at that length, unless you use very high quality cable. My home is wired up with Belden Cat6e cabling, which is total overkill, but I don't have to worry about any significant signal loss. -Ed
  7. Everything closes down so early in the South Bay of LA. But in Torrance, there is a Japanese Diner that is open until 3am. But it's their Ramen and Mabodon Lunch special I like the most. It's affordable and tasty. Although, my wife is embarassed to go there now, because we were eating lunch there when her water broke. -Ed
  8. That kitty looks great on the transluscent blue. Sorry that I didn't have time to come up with anything better. -Ed

    DEATH TANK!

Yeah, I'd have to say that Scorched Earth is THE inspiration for Death Tank. And pretty much every trajectory based shooting game, like Worms.

    DEATH TANK!

It's way better than Worms. The real key to Death Tank's awesomeness is that it is NOT turn based. It's all Real Time, baby! I hope they keep the funny like Blitz rounds.
  11. Another flashaholic here? What do you have so far? I've spent more in flashlights than I have in headphone gear this past year....
  12. Speaking of dogs, does the hotel allow pets at all? I'm guessing no.
  13. UC went nuts developing the surrounding area around campus. Some really nice places there where there used to be total shit dive roach houses. Of course, I guess rent skyrocketed.
  14. Can't I be an amusing shithead? Or an aggressive asshole?

    DEATH TANK!

READY FOR ACTION! And coming to the XBox 360 Arcade. http://snowblind.com/Death_Tank_1280x720.wmv Fuck yeah, it's about damn time. I like the updated graphics, yet they still kept the core controls and feel of the game, right down to how the force shield behaves. -Ed
  16. No shit sherlock, I'm just giving overall average numbers here. And I can guarantee you that most of us here in this thread are pretty sedentary. If you exercise you'll need to eat more, duh. But if the goal is to lose weight, diet wins over exercise every time. Diet and lose weight first, then exercise. But above all, get a full blood work panel done. Not everyone is the same, and you might need to diet differently. You can actually be a fat fucker, but have awesome bloodwork, or be barely overweight (I am right now) and have shitty bloodwork. Body Mass Index (BMI) plays a very important factor in factoring a person's ideal calorie intake. If you're a 7 foot tall freak, you're going to probably need more calories than a 4 foot midget. Anyways, I guess I misinterpreted the title of this thread. Let's count how much we're eating and not actually pay attention, do any other research other than getting the opinion of one health care monkey. My daily calorie intake is pretty low, and I don't lead a very active Michael Phelps lifestyle. I'm averaging about 1500 calories per day these days, and it's pretty much maintaining my current weight overall. If I ratchet down to 1000, I start to lose weight at a decent rate. But as any true dieting it fucking sucks. Seriously, guys if you are really serious about losing weight, at the very least cut the alcohol out of your diet for like a week. It's a lot of calories that goes right into weight gain. Yeah, we all like to drink in this forum (I sure do), but just try it for a little bit and you might be surprised at the difference it makes by itself. And for fucksake, get your blood drawn and have a panel done to analyze it if you haven't already done it. It's an essential starting point of any true diet, with a good peek at your current health condition. Otherwise, just go back to stuffing your faces, bitches. Later.
  17. Probably, but then I'd have to buy more parts, yadda yadda yadda. I already populated half the Dynahi PSU board.
  18. What you can't see is that it's not done with computers or machines at all. It's a bunch of people coordinated peeing from above.
  19. That's because they're lazy and legally liable if you develop any medical complications from dieting, which if you are medically obese, can have many many medical complications, like heart conditions, and potassium deficiency in particular. They tell you 1500 calories because it's a safe level, but you will never lose significant weight. 1500 calories is what you need to eat to Maintain your current weight. You're getting your blood drawn and panel done on a regular basis, right? Note that I said "Medically Supervised" before. Note that I said "on the threshold" of starvation. Look, you fat fucks can justify it all in your heads, but if you're serious about losing weight, shop around more. There is no secret to real weight loss. If you want to lose it faster, you have to eat less. But you have to be careful not to go past that threshold. But really, it's pretty difficult to do that unless you're anorexic. Real dieting fucking sucks balls.
  20. So how much weight have you lost and kept off so far, and in what period of time?
  21. If tou really want to lose weight, the total calorie count needs to be much lower. Between 800-1000 calories. But at that level you need doctor supervision. That's basically the threshold between starvation and ineffective diet. Oh, and dieting trumps exercise every time. Lose the weight first, then exercise. Oh, BTW, this will be a major buzz kill, but Alcohol kills diets, as it's not metabolized like regular food and drinks, it pretty much goes straight to body fat. Similar to how high fructose corn syrup in soft drinks is not metabolized as well.
  22. I like everything in the front row, and a few in the very back. In the middle, not so much. Yes, there will be tequila at CanJam in '09.
  23. That's because Atlanta sucks more than Cincinnati. Which is quite an accomplishment.
  24. Got to listen to the UE11 Universal fit demo recently. Yeah, waaaaay too much bass, it's really bloated and just overpowers everything. It's a shame, as the soundstage is much larger than the UE10 and imaging seems better. They really ruined the UE11 with the bass.
