Then off to be refreshed and calibrated. x 4 ~500USD well spent...

new foobar has the best pretties look evar.
hYdrociTy replied to hYdrociTy's topic in Home Source Components
Does this only happen in foobar or is it there even with foobar closed? What's your exact equipment and setup? Try this- do you have an external dac? If you do, go to maudio control panel and disable analog in/outs and only enable digital out and then listen through your dac and see if the noise is still there. If the noise Usually the cracking is there on all integrated sound solutions(I haven't seen this on macs). It's the noise from the computer itself. I don't know how it could be coming out of your external sound card though but maybe it's a ground noise thats either seeping in through the fw cable(unlikely) or though the audio structure of windows. Try going into device manage and disabling all sound cards except the maudio labeled ones then restart and see if stuff still happens. It could be that the noise is inherent in windows sound implementation and that the settings in asio/foobar/maudio driver is confused and the "windows sound system" is in the chain. -
Yea do think about swivel ability. I mainly like the akg ones because besides being big, easy to grab, comfy, and can swivel, they don't actually swivel- it's more of a full twist, which means they spring back to normal faster and you don't have to tilt it or swing it or anything. This comes in handy because if you are holding the headphone with one hand and it's swiveled around and you want to put it on your head again the supra aural ones with actual swivels are hard to swing back and put on your head, while the akg one just snaps back and is large so it just slips over your head. Do your poor ears a favor and forget about trying to eek out bass from a headphone in a club. Clarity is more important because the music you spin is (most likely) already bass heavy. They beyers are very comfy and feel invisible unlike the akgs which feel light yet somehow unnatural. The beyers are kind of meh for clubs though. I don't like them loud at all. The 770 will blow your head off at those volumes. I would rather go with the 880. Just think, what good will your precious scout and b52 be when all you will hear is a +12db 14khz ringing 24/7?

X2- unlike the smaller monitors from m-audio the bx5 begins to fill more of the room instead of a small blob of space in front of you. 300 is a damn fine deal- the same price i paid for a pair of my krk rp5's. The krk's are great with their rounded edges and the flat port, but probably need some room treatment. I still like the Event TR8 the most, and if you can find a pair for cheap then dew eet.

What do you use to clean your CD transport?
hYdrociTy replied to Knuckledragger's topic in Miscellaneous
wouldn't the transport just move around until it locks on again and then calibrate? I remember having fun pulling the laser head on my pcdp all the way then closing the lid and it moves back and it still works fine. -
ditch the 8620/10 and replace with opa2134/134 then put more buffers (2 each channel) in then use nichicon muse kz for the four electrolytic caps then take out the wimas and alps pot which are both grainy like a shell off a beach and replace with hovland musicaps and get a stepped pot from ebay for like 28 bucks and bam your pimeta is now fuller sounding and all the grain is gone.
