Shouldn't that red liquid be brown?
-
I have new brown pads already. I have access to a brown headband pad being sold by the person I bought the pads from. Arcs will be harder and would have to go with black most likely. Thanks for the advice, guys.

Going to return. Feeling misled and I didn't buy a refurbishing project. Thought I'd be replacing pads and be good to go. Apparently the brown arcs are not available anymore. Sent him an email, lets see what happens. Oh and while they were being shipped to me, he's been banned on the other site. Got a message to the staff to see what that's all about.

I'm listening to them right now and they appear to be working fine. I'll see what he has to say about all this.

So, what would you pay for a perfectly working Omega 2 MK1 in this condition? This is the pair I bought but wasn't told the true extent of the wear... I knew I'd be replacing pads, but the rest is a surprise.

Epson Stylus NX430 Wireless Printer/Scanner $50 I bought one of these and it was delivered today. Install and firmware update was a breeze even fully wireless. Print quality is pretty good. A bit noisy, but manageable. Printer is responsive and prints quickly on wireless. New ink is $13 for black and $25 for all 3 colors, so not too bad. (Or $25-28 for all 4 on eBay, genuine ink) I bought mine from Office Depot and it qualified for free shipping. Expected a sorta junky printer or I'd have posted it before now, but I'm very impressed. Office Depot no longer has it for $50, but Best Buy still does and you might find it at other stores. Best Buy didn't offer free shipping for me, but I saw it was only $7, so with tax you are looking at about $62 for a good cheap printer/scanner. http://www.bestbuy.c...nx430&cp=1&lp=1

Worked out for the first time since November or so. Swapped potatoes out of my standard meals for brown rice again. Going back into burn mode to try to get another 20-40 lbs off. Been hanging at 195-200 for the last 3-4 months. Started in May 2011 at 270.

Thanks for that, picked it up. My first non-radio shack iron. Now I only have EVERYTHING else to get. Spritzer suggested the PS-900 but $250 vs $100 is a lot...

I've not listened to a lot of speakers, but I really like my Paradigm Studio 40 v.4 pair. Bought mine a couple years ago and it was new old stock as they had stopped making them, but perhaps there is a new version. Mine were in your price range. The Studio series came in several finishes. Not my picture: Studio 60

Swt61 you might be right. I'm not used to seeing it in such a large cross section and without varnish/French polish which darkens it to look more like the one I indicated. I see it as bows which are pencil thickness.

Well damn, was all set to buy a nice stick of pernambuco to send to Kevin to make knobs for anyone who wants one, but one of the few places that has pieces big enough to turn requires minimum $100 order. Also sorta coincidence, the company selling the blanks is named Gilmer... so close... The middle left one, kinda orange reddish.
-
What's the minimum size blank you need to turn a decent knob?
-
God I hate that. I turned it off on my Sony 52" and my parents Sharp 70". Makes everything look fake. That's a good description of the 009s, imo, but as you say I've only heard them at RMAF so I don't know what they sound like at home.

Making a mess of the BHSE thread on HF. Is he even truly interested in the BHSE?

I suppose mini meets are the best meets, but it does often depend on your location. I'm not aware of anyone within 2 hours drive that has high end headphone gear, much less someone interested in a meet. I usually end up driving 3 1/2 hours to Dallas or 6 1/2 hours to Austin as I will in about a month for any sort of meet action. I'm still in the early stages of high end gear so I haven't made any ties with listening preferences. -- The point about free trials is good, but aren't most high end amps built only to order? I suppose there might be a return policy but I haven't noticed it. Sources and headphones seem to be easier to do this with though.
-
What would you suggest then? Buy them all and return what you don't like? Hardly feasible for all but the rich. Some people can't attend meets so they are stuck. I don't mean to be confrontational, just genuinely curious.

Glad to see it wasn't permanent or major. Should be back to normal soon.

Great knobs, KG. I like the ebony one best (partially because I work with it daily). I'm sure (hope) you are wearing a mask for these, especially ebony. That stuff is worse than smoking. Never comes out of your lungs. Do you plan to leave them all bare as you did the ebony, or varnish them? Finger oil will darken them over time if bare. Another wood I'd suggest is Pernambuco (see my avatar). Hard to get good stuff though since it's endangered.

Not sure exactly what led me here. It was a few years ago. Has helped me take a step back from the HF 'sugar sweet everything's amazing' and become a more cynical person regarding audio. You guys got me reading books about audio/amps/etc again and probably an eventual (finally) entry into DIY. On the bright side I've only been banned here once (sorry Nate ), so not too bad!

Opinions on best version of 007s? MK1, MK2, MK2.5, etc? Also how much are replacement pads?

I'll see your sexy Star Trek girl a couple pages back and raise you this Star Wars girl:

Kind of a bullshit setup, imo. People have paid money to move somewhere at a specific time. They aren't going to lose their money and the rest of their schedule to admire a great violinist. If this was done in a shopping center or something it would be more reliable.

That thread did go downhill rather quickly. Jude had the basis for some decent points, but he was off base more than on and eventually had to lock it to save himself. I never knew til now just how much technical knowledge he had (or rather doesn't have) until seeing that series of posts. Not knowing all the tech stuff myself I couldn't say at the time if Spritzer was right or not, but I'm more inclined to believe the guy who rebuilds electrostatic stuff all the time than a figurehead who manages a website and video series. Recstar, any suggestions on those 'book or two'? Total novice here I did try to start reading some of the pdfs on Millett's website a while ago. Guess I could head back there.
