Wow, that is interesting. Never heard of such agressive metallic / crystaline migration.

Just buy a heatsink extrusion that is designed for TO-3. Has a channel in the middle with the correct case clearance. Or buy on board heatsinks from mouser or others...

For a new pair of Grados? <<chuckle chuckle>> Yeah we know that you are good at doing knobs... Might it be for sumpin else?

I have no idea what his relationship with companies like HeadAmp are. Really isnt none of my business. I do know for a fact that the bulk of his designs are in the public domain, including the newer ones such as the KGSSHV and the DIY T2.

QUOTE: "Also big on the kg and millett amps" Me three, I've built both. I have to say that KG's "wire with gain" designs are the cleanest sound I have ever heard. "Sterile?" Maybe, I prefer that to polluted / distorted sound. Another plug for the GL here, after owning (and selling) around five chinese SS amps, I thought I'd try the diminutive Gilmore Lite after reading up on it at the other place. Yeah, it's "old news" by today's standard, though the core design still prevails. I am amazed at the clarity this little box renders. It's a keeper. I've quit searching for a head-amp in the dynamic domain. The Lite is it.

It too is a 1N4007. Neither of those diodes are zeners, they are just straight rectifier diodes. What BOM / schematic are you looking at? Mine show the values for both.

Recommendations of things to not miss in Cancun?
livewire replied to HeadphoneAddict's topic in Off Topic
Other "dont miss" places are the Mayan ruins at Chichen Itza and Tulum. To get to Chitchin Itza, it is a three hour bus ride into the interior of the Yucatan jungle. It is an all day affair, bring bottled water and snacks, many of the buses dont offer food for sale and they wont stop until your are almost there. My kid almost died of thirst on that trip. Some of the bus tours also offer an hour long stop along the way at another tourist site called "The Cenote". Cenotes (pronounced sen-note-tay) are huge caves that appear as sinkholes that are usually partially filled with water, some are part of an underground river system. They dot the area. One can explore and swim in some of them. Bring your bathing suit. I believe that there is also a swimming tour of these underground caves at Xcaret park as well. Have fun! -
Recommendations of things to not miss in Cancun?

Same here. Took the family, expect to spend the entire day there. Do the "backpack thing" and have all of your stuff with you. It is a pain to go back out to the parking lot, the place is huge. Also if you go in on a bus, make note of your bus number, meet up place and time. No fun being stuck in the middle of a dark jungle at midnight without a ride out. They have a Mayan flavored show that starts around sundown that is spectacular. Situated in a semi-open air amphetheater, it showcases a wealth of ancient Mexican history and some wild exibitions such as guys swinging on ropes from 100 foot high poles and a Mayan soccer game that has the ball lit on fire during play. Touristy? Yes, but definitely worth the price of admission. Bring a pad to sit on, the bleacher seats are cement. EDIT: I noticed that the price of admission has gone WAY UP! Prolly due to the drop off of the number of tourists visiting the area. The place is staffed with hundreds of employees and performers. Link: http://www.xcaret.com/ -
Hey, anything to upgrade the "Lambda look". That has to be the most fugly outdated designs I have ever seen. (but I DO love my Lambdas, just not for that reason) And if true top notch customer support can come to the USA, I wont be complaining. It is virtually non-existant at the point in time. Dont know about Woo Audio, but Yamas just sux. Parts availability and repair services should be accessable to the consumer whether you bought them there or not.

"STAX is still the STAX". Now I'm relieved!

Liquid Lightning sounds like a bad case of diarrhea. I'll take the girl drink any day.

Hang in there Shelly, please be careful on your trip.

Oops! Today, worked my tail off building shelving units. Currently sipping JD while listening to PF The Wall. So what's it gonna be? Grados or Stax? Nice to have options.

Back in '73 I drove a '69 MGB Midget. One of the finest motoring experiences ever! Sold it a year later before it broke...

@LK - Great looking boxes! I may copy them when I attempt my T2. Also wanted to thank you for your undertaking the GB. You made it possible for me to consider building KG's monster amp. And again, many thanks to KG for his insane contributions to the DIY crowd!

I am a Grado coco fan. Your work is beautiful, prices seem to be in line with the higher end of what the market will bear. Watchu askin for the s/n 001 coco cups? Or are they already sold?

Gotta start somewhere... That is a heck of a gallery he's got there. A body of work to be proud of!

PF BS FTW! Oh yea they sound good!

Now I'm really confused... I thought that it was supposed to read "ELECTOSTATIC" ??

At that price, I'd expect it to be without faults. Who knows? Maybe things run deeper... One just sold on HF for ~$1300. There is another one over there going for the same price.
