Damn. I had no idea he was even sick. He had a sharp tongue and a strong voice of reason. He'll be missed.

You're not sceptic, you're a cynic

You can't have been following things very closely lately. He has stayed well clear of critiquing Ti's work ever since the unfortunate debacle. He do have a clear stance on the merits of 3-channel designs, but Ti is not the only one employing this in his designs. Furtermore he has't measured or critiqued single DIY design since he started on the O2, and he has himself stated that he will focus more on commercial offerings in the future, since there are so much feelings involved in DIY audio. And Biased? Of course he's biased. He has spent a lot of time and money on this project, so of course he want to see it succeed. Are you suggesting that the likes of Ti Kan and Nelson Pass aren't biased towards their own principles and desings? I'm currently working on an O2, but it is slow work. I haven't populated a PCB in years.

If I were a mouse I think I'd prefer this. PS. What's the story of that bike? It looks freaking awesome.

Happy birthday, Louis Daguerre!

Yup, what appears to be 13 whole people, is in fact 13 12/13th people. Clever illusion, reminiscent of the "impossible triangle"

Lutefisk isn't putrid, but we do eat some fermented fish here on the peninsula as well. The swedes have their surströmming and we have our rakfisk, but nothing quite as hardcore as putrid greenland shark.

Might the 'this' he's alluding to be the erratic tax system?
-
Whoah, that is silly stupid. I would have thought EEA regulations to limit these sort of things? I mean in the spirit of fair competition and stuff.
-
Or deliberate, fully considered. The very act of signing the document with those exact words was of course deliberate, but as I read it the clerk had only a very limited list of terms he would accept. If Kevin had wrtten "ridiculously expensive DAC" the clerk wouldn't have accepted it, and the package wouldn't have moved an inch closer to Iceland. Only option then left was to use the accepted term closest to a factual description. As such the "lie" wasn't done freely or willfully, though admittadly, not at gun point either. Again, I'm not a lawyer so this could all be just gibberish, but I find the thought experiments interesting.

As noted in the paragraph Doug linked to, the act must be done 'willfully'. So if the jerk behind the counter won't allow you to do things according to regulations, you're probably not to blame.

What a strange turn this evening took. Now reading Iceland Customs tariff and Tax Law As long as no icelandic customs have been paid for the object on a former occasion, duties must be paid on import. If these duties are not paid, that's what's called smuggling. Most countries have laws against this. That's how I read it anyway, but I've never studied law, so who knows. 25% commodity tax on sound reproduction equipment etc. is the same as here. To be completely frank I do not understand the nagging about having to pay duties. If you're able to pay $10k for a DAC you should be able to handle the duties.

Ah, feedback, didn't factor that in. What about negative effects from excessive slew rate, can it be too much?
-
Sorry for butting in in such a rude manner, I mean no dis-respect, but doesn't such an argument rely on the slew rate and frequecy response of the Dynahi being less than sufficient? If going by the specifications posted on Headamp for the GS-1 is accurate enough, this isn't the case. Doing a rough calculation it seems less than 2V/uS is needed in the LCD-2s case (I get 1.4 for 11Vpk at 20kHz). I'm sure the Dynahi is well past this mark.
-
Isn't the question more wether two randomly chosen singles will match better than one randomly chosen double, as most people building this amplifier won't be interested in the added effort of matching devices?
-
If he's planning to make money from it, why would he let Epiphany Acoustics build and sell for profit, or indeed release it under a cc by-nd license?
-
I'm not going to try defending his offensive disposition, I just thought that if the error is so grave and obvious somebody should point it out to him. I can't. I know fuck-all about PCB design.
-
Have you asked him about it? He was very open to suggestions under the development.
-
I'll be building a couple. I'm not too big on portable amplifiers, but a desk top/tranportable unit should fit me perfectly.

Arnaud posted some HD800 plots on page 3 of this thread. Mighty impressive stuff. I know it's as close as one can get to a sacriledge in this hobby to even consider this, but do the Stax measurements really live up to the expectations?
