  1. Better than my earlier caution gave them credit for. Back of the notepad sums have the 717 at less than 1/10th of the optimal current reserve (between 15 and 50 times more needed I think) but a sufficiency in voltage. The bass goes a little bit deeper and overall is cleaner which is more noticeable. Theres less of the "dirtying" that transformers are want to cause in these sorts of applications. Microdynamics are slightly better, I think that a little of that kind of delicacy gets lost in the transformer. Larger transients, they're slightly worse, the transformer does kill some of that energy I think, but the 717 just doesn't have the power reserve for the big jumps. It's very clear just how much of a drain these are when you listen to the O2 and then connect the H2. The O2 just goes limp. Ultimate volume level is more limited, but it should be enough I am sure for most people. Thats not to say that I've got the 717 maxxed out and its not very loud, its just that past a certain level distortion creaps in. With stock caution I'd say that anyone with a 717 could buy the H2 unit without need for the TR-2 transformer and hear what the headphones are about. They'd just need an adapter. Taking the headphones apart is not easily done and theres a lot more than just the film inside although I'll be buggered if I know what its all for. I'm just glad I managed to recable them without wiring the bias up to the driver or poking the soldering iron through something fragile. The stock cable is a giant pile of garbage. Replacing the cable made for improvements in the "cleanliness" of the sound.

  6. I've been an Eiffel 65 fan for years! Got all of their stuff, I'm so glad 2/3 of them kept going as Bloom 06, got that stuff too. I'd take a picture of my collected discography as should-be-humiliated-but-am-actually-not proof but its all back home except for: To fire off-topic bullets while riding the thread train, I'm listening to: Just now.

I'd like to more depth to the majority of the news site articles, bbc is great for getting the big picture in small portions over a whole range of issues but can sometimes really like the meat I want to chew into. There, at the minute, the best place for more depth is the verious blogs. Nick Robinsons is pretty good for UK domestic politics. I also nip over to telegraph.co.uk I use US News & World Report - Breaking News, World News, Business News, and America's Best Colleges - USNews.com for my transatlantic slice, if theres a better alternative I'd be happy to hear about it.
  8. 1) SRM-717 → SR-007 2) SRM-717 → TakeT H2 3) TR-2 → TakeT H2 4) Mini Aleph → K1000 - 5) NAD → EQ → Ergo AMT 6) Mini Aleph → Orthodome #4 - 15) No EQ → Ergo AMT 23) HD201 24) iBuds Tomorrow I may just finally put that Stax cable in the drawer on the TakeT.
  9. A go over with the polishing cloth can help bring out the shine in those highs you know. Except now I have images of crusty bowls of abandoned noodles and a heap of socks turning to compost.
  10. Manwich, with extra red onion.
  11. You bought a new pair of speakers, shiny awesome ones no less, and didn't dust and polish them? Shocking.

Murdoch passionately hates the BBC. He hates the way it works, how its funded and it's output. I myself think that it's a fucking fabulous institution. I would gladly pay the fee that runs it just for the bits of it I do hear/see/use, nevermind the other 95% of its output I don't go near.
  14. From what I read, the usb/spdif stages are identical. Its the DAC and headphone amp bits (and the type of outputs options) thats different. As I only need the transport part, theres no point spending twice as much. I got the battery pack thing to go with it of course if you're going to buy something, do it properly. Don't have an old zip drive. We went from floppy to CD-R. I hate to think how much that first 4x burner must have cost my father.

Oh gods. That sort of thing makes me hug the BBC even tighter to my bosom. Is the Fox news channel always that kind of daft?
  16. I'd like to know what Spritzer or Dr Gilmores idea of "overkill" for the TakeT might be. I've got a picture of those 1950s valve computers.
  17. The TakeT went to stay with cosmopragma last year. He wasn't very keen on it. -1337 post-
  18. Me. Oh, wait, thats not right.
  19. Interesting, you can navigate to it from the parent directory, you just cant link to it directly.
  20. Rearrange your setup in such a way that it creates a nice silver line of symmetry through the black?
  21. I've had problems in the past with the O2s taking many hours to come up to full efficiency after a period of non-use (been on holiday or such). The problem has gone since shorting out the pins before such periods, I now get full efficiency on a cold 717 and cold O2 right from hitting the power button, although it takes a bit for everything to warm up.
