Just toying with cobbling up a basic cd transport for when I have the urge to spin a disc. I've got one working but its not cased and lacks buttons. That first one seems exactly what I need to continue tinkering.
I'm looking for something that adds basic control functionality to a computer IDE drive (pause, previous track etc). The front buttons are just eject and play/next track. Is there a simple solution for this?
I don't think I could bring myself to do what you did, I was nerves enough installing my 440mla. Its a pleasure to see this thread instead of the horrible alternative, I'll bet that thing sings.
It is perhaps telling failure of the advert that it causes people to think about their first downloads rather than about vinyl.
I can remember my first LP too if that makes any difference. In fact I think I can remember my first of every format I own except CD.
I still have most of my first downloads. I got them off audiofind.com, which was I suppose just a big filesever. Some butler who has a basement full of index cards and newspaper adverts all piled in heaps called Jeeves, if you ask him about something he'll ram his fist into the pile and bring you some yellowed, festering rag of a result.
The yahoo questions/answers pages, forums all over the fucking shop and similar and such are starting to brim over into hobbesian war. It's like that episode of The IT Crowd where they break the little black box that apparently contains the entire internet.
Interesting that people sooner launch into confusion, panic and dischord at the non-functionality of Google than use another search engine. Although I should not be surprised if many people don't know that others exist.
