I certainly have phantom Feints smell in my nose at intervals. We'll see if I contract any kind of lung disease cleaning out the mash tun tomo

Hippitty Burpdai Dear Boy!

First day at the distillery. Lots to learn, but good.

Hippitty Burpdai Squire!

I was lukewarm on it. Second lot anyway, Didn't get any of the original brew. Might age well I guess. It's probably mentioned somewhere in the drink thread.

Congrats Ric. Also in job news. Got the dogsbody placement at Daftmill distillery.

GO ENGLAND! ....wait...

Thanks guys. It's good to know a bloke who knows a bloke sometimes. I also now have what might be pre-emptively termed a business partner. And the pencil plan as it stands is to have the brewery up and running and the first commercial product out the door within 30 months. Personally I think that a very high goal, but that it can be done. Things are moving fast in various directions and nothing is set but the wheels are turning and it is all very very exciting.

May have landed a work experience gig at a local distillery.

Thank you for the kind comments chaps. As for the "Advice". That hit the top of the charts over here:

I was coy because nothing is set yet, but I might as well ramble. I'm quitting a PhD I shouldn't have ever started and which made me a stressed, depressed, alcoholic hermit in a subject which I drifted into passively after drifting passively through the MA via two previous subjects I had just as little enthusiasm for (hatred for in one case) for and which I also drifted into after I drifted through high school and finished without a career goal. (for 7 years I've ultimately been directionless and the degree was just a step towards whatever the fuck happened to happen next) I felt locked in because it's where I was and what I was doing and like everything else it was a case of "you've started to just keep making the minimum effort and you'll eventually finish". What does a PhD in Social Anthropology gain me? Dr in front of my name, PhD behind it and a series of horrible jobs teaching undergrads on contracts no longer than 12 months all over the place. And all I've got to do to achieve that is work like a dog on a project I have no drive to do for 3 (more) years? I now have an aspiration to work towards which I actually give a rats ass about and a motivation to work toward and I'm investigating the best way of pursuing that from my current standpoint. I want to move toward a job in the brewing industry, and the pipe-dream that goes with that direction is my own brewery. This might mean an HNC in applied science and then application to Herriot Watt for entry in 2011. Else an HND in Biological or Environmental science on the HNC and direct entry into 3rd year of the same Herrot Watt programme. Or it might mean a progression through business education. I have some contacts related to the industry and I'll be tapping them for advice. Whatever the change leads to. I win. Because at least I won't be miserable doing it.

Looks to have been a most satisfactory day Al. I wish I had more days like that Vicki. Today I began the process of resigning my PhD. Big life changes in the next few weeks.

You're standing up well in some regards, not so well in others. I think that once this unusually firey baptism is over you might very well be comfortable here. For pops and clicks testing, I'd personally use something unashamedly treble-heavy at the expense of being able to actually listen to music enjoyably. Something like a freely open undamped ortho. (Or a Grado SR-325, horrible things)

Because I'm slightly drunk, and have entered a period of profound liminality in my life?

So we might expect those two records to not be compressed to shit like every single song which hits the high numbers in the charts and sales? That'd be awesome. Please let me know which record this is so I can buy it for the novelty value. I'll check out "Brothers" ( I really will, although you'll be gone before it gets to me and I hear it). You made it personal when you insulted the first reply you got. Glass. Fucking. Houses. Dan, Mark, Ken...? You asked for opinions you didn't want? Perhaps you were actually looking for quantitative answers?

I want to start home brewing. I have looked about and am considering this as my entry into the art before graduating to more fulsome brewing. Is there something objectionable about that kit? It seems between a pre-measured mix with cold water kit and a full set of grain based gear.

An exasperated sanctimonious fuck you to you too dear chap. Once you've calmed down, do please come back. To defer to your question, I've not heard the GS1K or PS1K. I don't like Grados as a rule (RS-1 + GS-1 is nice) and I think that burn-in is hugely overstated in terms of the physical excuses for its effects.

To quote Bricktop. You are on thin fucking ice my pedegree chum. Being a mastering engineer is not a free pass to say what you like. My brother is a mastering engineer (technically) and I wouldn't trust his opinion in headphones even as far as his taste in beer. And he drinks Fosters. You've been pointed to the welcome PM. Pay it heed. We welcome new people here and this is a good place, but the learning curve is steep and coated in broken glass, and sometimes on fire.

You'd best not, as my entire new three year plan (first time in my life I have direction beyond bullshit) depends entirely on their (futher) good grace plus 0.065% net whinge from HC/HF.

I obviously didn't which is odd, because it means that either a tab of post vanished into the aether. The original context was along the lines of "If you won't be single by then, find a good lady with a tall, red-haired sister who likes short haired men with old world accents" or similar.
