My speakers always sound awesome. But no, JD didn't make things better like Gin does.
-
Strange, 3 shots of JD just gives me indigestion.
-
Company is over rated anyway. I can drink and talk utter bullshit on my own.

Its not knowing the input impedance or sensitivity of my power amp that makes me hesitate. Richard Dunn basically offers his products on a trail-sale basis though, so at worst, I'd only be out the cost of return postage...
-
Passive pre amps make matching input and output impediences much more difficult and make choices of interconnect cables very crucial to sound quality, cable capacitance is the enemy with passive pre-amps. Some people say that passive pre amps are more transparent at the cost of dynamic sound. Some companies philosophies are firmly in the passive camp. Notably NVA, but Richard Dunn is very different about the way he does many things, and thats the reason why he makes all of the bits needed in a system, so that you don't blow up his amps by using the wrong type of cable.
-
Theres multiple gains to be considered (forgetting multiple gain stages in a power amp) unless you use a passive pre-amp, but I'm just nickpicking.

Doesnt Gamma Pro driver = SR-X Pro driver?

Must have sold your speakers to pay for the ENT surgeon who fixed up your ears after they were raped by a stock HC-1.

Needs more cowbell.
-
Spend the extra $15 and go for the full Jecklin chassis upgrade, the resonance control gets rid of that smear in the high end.
-
Liar, you'd buy 2, just to make sure that there was one less for Headphile to destroy.
-
I'd rather have syphilis than a Grado. At least you get to have fun getting syphilis.
-
Application to join made.

All Grados are rubbish. There should have been a Stax HC-1.

Isn't **BRENT** a kind of violent way to end a post? It scares me.

Depends on the album, Oxygene or Zoolook comes over fine, Parts of RendezVous and Teo & Tea just dont have the thump that you want. Extension isn't non-existent, but the AMT has the stereotypical stat sound described by the unfamiliar. No bass. It is there, but its the wrong kind for that sort of music. The Aleph hasnt awoken the AMT as I had suspected that it might, it is the first amp I've used with the AMT which is actually doing a proper job though. Its also doign a fine job with the Quads, although I've not cranked it up yet.
-
Genre is why the AMT does so well when it does. For music that isn't heavy it can be glorious. I don't do a large amount of classical listening, but I do listen to a fair amount of acousticy stuff and my share of jazz and for those its fabby. Just can't cope with Deep Purple or Eiffel 65 properly though, although its vastly improved over how it sounded when I first got it. Maybe its the ESL57 of headphones.

Stax Omega 2. The HE60 was good but I'd want more time with one. TakeT H2 has the potential to go right up but we need a proper direct drive option to become accessible before sentence can be passed. The K1000 is right up there as well but again I'd want more time with it. R10 is good but really deflates when you factor price. Having spent time with the AMT out of the Aleph, I'm lowering it down. Unless the Ergo Amp 2 with its dynamic EQ really is the shit, then the AMT is stuck at the bottom of the top end. It suffers like the HE60 does, from lack of low end presence. When it gets it right it gets it so right though.

I just hope that the 5.1 mix isnt too, "enthusiastic". That was my big gripe when Mike Oldfield re-recorded tubular bells in 2003.
-
Fit is not something you should need really. I wear the H2 so that it is only barely making contact with my face at all, no effort to get the drivers right in close, they literally hang in space, K1000 stylie. Its you comment that they're a pain in the ass to take on and off that makes me think you've got them set quite tight in. They should slip off the head easily. Theres no question though that they are an unconventional ergonomic design. The wire headband is better than the leather one though. I know exactly what you mean by the upper bass/lower midrange confusion, this for me has diminished hugely with the recent amp change and I suspect it to be an effect of the TR-2 transformer, as the directly amplified H2 doesn't seem to exhibit the effect.

Jean-Michel Jarre has re-recorded Oxygene from the ground up for the 30th anniversary of the album. Theres also a DVD with a one-take live performance of the album. Theres a stereo and a 5.1 version of the album and a 2D and 3D version of the video. http://www.emigroup.com/Press/2007/press87.htm Its out at the end of the month. I for one, shall certainly be getting a copy. Anyone else?

I do believe that Santa was laughing his Ho! Ho! Ho! long before the word ho became parlance for a lady of negotiable affection. If anything, the use of ho to refer to such a lady should be what is banned.

Still, this hobby is a continuous learning experience. I look forward to my further education. I certainly don't forsee myself spending any more on the transducer end for a long long time.

When do you consider an amp "high end"
