  1. Right on, thanks for your response. There is some competition in that price range used, namely the Krell SACD Standard. Problem with the Krell is that the reviews are all over the place, probably more so then any source I've ever researched. And of course we can't have a mid-fi SACD player without tons of transport issues, can we.
  2. I have a handful of RVGs (some Griffins, Turrentines, Drews). For the most part they have a nice sense of space but are a bit bright. The Griffins in particular I have to listen to at a lower volume. Of course I much, much prefer either Hoffman stuff or Acoustech stuff.
  3. Anyone heard it or heard anything about it? MUSIC HALL/SHANLING CD-T200A TUBE SACD PLAYER - elusivedisc They run ~$1500 range used on Audiogon. Nice looking unit when it has the silver posts instead of the gold. Two of the tubes power the output, the other two tubes power a headphone amplifier (output on side of unit). It also has preamp functionality (onboard volume). Shanling = Music Hall, which is a good thing I guess. I've never heard Music Hall stuff but I've heard good things.
  4. what kind of tonearm you got on there? detachable headshell? S shape or straight? sorry I don't know much about dual tts.

    RS1's?

I think vintage RS1 prices are crazy in general, but that dinged up cable should lower the price significantly. Makes you wonder what the can has been through.
  13. yes, that to!
  14. Also, we should get our terminology straight: a "format" is the form the audio arrives in, i.e. SACD, DVD-A, redbook, vinyl, etc. What you have listed in your thread title is actually record companies/mastering teams. XRCD and K2HD can blab all they want about super sound (and yes it quite often is super) and special technology, but its all just fancy mastering on a plain jane 16/44 redbook.
  15. XRCD, MFSL, and DCC are all just redbook, meaning regular CDs. Redbook is a fine format, so really it depends on the mastering/recording. SACD and DVD-A offer higher resolution, but not necessarily better sound, because if the mastering sucks, the sounds sucks, regardless of format. SACD is generally preferable for two channel listeners because there will always be a stereo mix on the disc. Vinyl is king of sound, but any number of factors can make it suck, including not just the mastering but also the pressing. A poor pressing can leave a record prone to noise or excessive ticks and pops. Records are also prone to warpage if stored improperly.
  16. Ooh, the Apex! Looks good, I'd love to put it up against the Oracle.
  17. Shit, that's been my wishlist table for a long time now! Did you buy used or new? Congrats, I love my stock 1200MK2. edit: nevermind, found it: http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?anlgtabl&1223592599 good get!
  18. Thanks for sharing Absorbine, sounds like an awesome night. This past Saturday I saw Analog Missionary in Ocean Springs, MS. Show was at an old high school theatre, neat. Maybe a couple dozen folks in attendance. AM has lots of attractive attributes: cool redhead female lead singer with a theremin, amazing drummer who at one point played with his barehands, bassist constantly has two instruments strapped to himself, one of them is some kind of "bass sitar" (I don't know how else to describe it), and the guitarist also plays this weird clear banjo. Post-goth, progressive, early 90s alternative, whatever: the chick can fucking wail, the band can rock, and there were lots of belly dancers. Pure win, I'm happy to find this band playing in the South. MySpace.com - Analog Missionary - NOLA/ATL/MOBILE - Progressive / Shoegaze / Gothic - www.myspace.com/analogmissionary

    RS1's?

I've never heard a true brown headband/wood box RS-1. However, at one point I owned a serial numberless dark wood black headband RS-1, a newer serial number buttoned RS-1, and a buttonless RS-1, and I detected little to no difference between them. The wood box is neat though.
  20. happy birthday tyll!!
