  1. $50 an album really. Outrageous price. Harder to justify for the Acoustech Blue Note releases, since they don't get the full gatefold treatment, complete with the unbelievably vivid glossy photographs. I've bought Tunisia, Big Beat, and Soul Station. They are all amazing. I plan to buy as many as my wallet will allow me.
  2. happy birthday!
  3. I'll have to try and calculate this to see how I'm doing, thanks for the tip.
  4. I can plug electrical cables into mine to! We must have the same model.
  5. wook = you
  6. brick wall.
  7. good to hear, my Modwright 999es was always a tad edgy.
  8. Well I did have to use a Sumiko headshell to get my overhang where I wanted it to be (I used an arc protractor that uses a Baerwald alignment), and this significantly added to the weight, so much so that I had to use the Technics counterweight to get the VTF right.
  9. It definitely loves S curved tonearms and detachable headshells.
  10. Yes, but your testing method assumes that what makes gear "warm up" is actually heat, as opposed to something else, like music loving microscopic bugs who are attracted to pleasing vibrations and slowly build up around your gear as it runs.
  11. Well you know my answer. I'd go for the Cinemags. Supposedly they do have a great synergy with DL-103 (I have no point of comparison, all I've heard is my Cinemags), and if you go DIY they'd be cheap as shit. The DL-103 is THE classic cartridge. With me, you, and Chuck spinning one, we'll have a regular FOTM on our hands.
  12. How are the highs tkam? i'm always terrified when a source is described as having "extended" highs, as the stock 9100ES is.
  13. i think you should combine dusty and token's columns. TONEPUB is one of the harshest MOT-like posters I've seen on an audio forum. Him and his buddy anachronist have no issues with delving into any given thread and stirring shit up big time. I just think since he is selling a product (albeit a free magazine) he should be a bit more political in choosing the dialogues he participates in. anyway rega for lif. Hey is it really pronounced "REE-ga"? I always thought it was "RAY-ga", like "Sega".
  14. cut refined carbs, refined sugar. stop eating food with ingredients that have suffixes like "-ide". no more high fructose corn syrup! i bet your heartburn will stop. I'm not an MD, but I do have an english degree. very similar IMO.
  15. yeah, the dynamics are great! they are coming to new orleans, but its on a wednesday (2 hour drive). i'd probably still go, even with work, if october wasn't already slammed full of concerts. opeth/baroness/high on fire, phil lesh/allman bros, and two nights of panic for halloween.
  16. fans of vinyl and modern blues revival rock bands need not hesitate to purchase this one. As part of the birthday festivities melody and I sat in the 2ch room and spun this. vinyl has a bit of noise but overall pretty quiet. supposedly the master came from digital, but it still sounds marvelous and analog. not the greatest sound, but still great. and of course the music is fantastic. highly recommended!
  17. Glad to see you here! I honestly never thought you registered. I always wondered if I came on too strong with the "GO REGISTER AT HEADCASE RIGHT AFTER CANJAM YOU DIY NATE WILL TEACH YOU" thing. actually I didn't say nate would teach you but its implied. look, I need as many friendly DIYers as possible to build me fly shit. I shill headcase all day. update: so far its been the best birthday ever.
  18. my quads are the Birdseye maple. While they are beautiful, I wish they were black.
  19. I'll bet it's bright and horrible.
  20. actually I see quad makes a sub that I could get in the same finish as my speakers. They run around a thousand. I might save a bit and go in this direction instead of changing brands. Quad 4 lif!1
  21. I'll teach you how to make crack from cocaine.
  22. oh I'll be eating some tasty morsels tonight no doubt, compliments of my GF. Then I'll spin some steely dan and watch Clinton on the DNC.
  23. anybody heard it? Better yet, let's go OT: how does everyone feel about monitors + sub in a small room? I'm still craving more bass extension then my Quads want to provide. I'm wondering if something like some iQ1s and sub would satisfy my needs.
  24. thanks y'all. The continued existence of this, the best audio site in the Internet, is the best present I could ask for.
